Rating: Summary: Athlete? Housewife? This book can help a lot of people. Review: It really makes no difference if you are a professional athlete, science teacher, secretary, or truck driver- this book has something to offer just about everyone. This is because a lot of people with back pain have been found to have problems with the multifidus muscles in their back (pointed out by the numerous research articles cited in the book). As I see it, whether the problem occurred while backpacking or vacuuming the rug, the treatment is all the same- exercise and strengthen the multifidus muscles by doing just one of the exercises in this book (think about treating the function of your back, not a questionable back diagnosis the book says). A short and easy book with well illustrated and explained exercises, I give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: One Review: That's exactly how many exercises you have to do in order to work the multifidus muscles in your back to reduce or eliminate your pain. A physical therapist told me awhile ago about this book before it became so popular. Also like the fact that its a short book.
Rating: Summary: The Multifidus Back Pain Solution Review: The book seemed based on solid research and the exercises were easy!! The author seems to have had a lot of experience and practice in this area and deals with this subject in a well thought out manner that is easy for the average Joe!!
Rating: Summary: Get your back to finally cooperate with just ONE exercise. Review: This book contains stuff you probably never knew about your back problem and leaves one wondering why no one ever told them. Believe it or not, it is possible to get your back to cooperate with you by doing just ONE exercise every other day. What a deal!
Rating: Summary: Important in the rehab of low back pain Review: This book has some useful factual information but unfortunately most of the information is based on illogical conclusions from other research. The most outrageous statement was that one should not sit straight but should slouch. As an Alexander Technique teacher I know that assertion to be incorrect. The authors further stated that sitting straight put more pressure on the spine. The problem may be that the authors do not know what is really sitting straight. When a person sits straight, the vertebrae rest on eachother in the optimal manner. Slouching destroys discs. Also they only had 3 exercises. [...]

I was so outraged by this book that I returned it to Amazon. I further recommend that they no longer sell it.
Rating: Summary: A Good Resource... Review: This book is a good resource for someone suffering from back pain and is interested in trying some new exercises. Mr. Johnson bases just about everything he says in this book on the results of "randomized, controlled trials". His arguments are acceptable and he always provides convincing evidence. My only problem is that there is little discussion about sports related back injuries. I also had a problem with the fact that there is only 1 picture of the multifidus and it's not that great. The section "things every back pain sufferer needs to know" was excellent and I learned a lot from it. Overall this book was ok, but somehow, I finished the book and still wanted more.

Rating: Summary: A missing piece of the back pain puzzle? Review: This book is about a back muscle called the multifidus. By citing much back research from peer-reviewed journals, the book makes a very good argument for abnormalities of the multifidus muscle being at play one way or another in many cases of back pain. Also, the treatment is quite simple and can be done in the privacy of your own home. This book will probably be especially helpful to those that have tried just about every treatment under the sun for their back pain and still have not found relief. Some people might also like "Body for Life" as a place to start for an overall general exercise program that is structured and tries to keep one motivated along the way.
Rating: Summary: Good Resource Review: This book offers good information on an important aspect of spinal care. THE REVIEW BY THE CHIROPRACTOR SHOULD BE IGNORED as it is obviously written without any backing to his reports of this muscle group being not under conscious control. He misleads readers also that this muscle group cannot be strengthened with rehab exercises(Chiropractors are not trained in rehabilitative exercise). Readers should follow this book up with a visit to a Physical Therapist with strong manual skills in order to be most effectivley treated.
