Summary: Don't know where to start? Read this book!
Review: I'd gotten alot of info on potty training off the net, from friends, etc, but I still wasn't quite sure where to start. This book was tremendously helpful in allaying my fears about taking the big jump into undies. There are many real life scenarios, relatively simple explanations for different steps to take when problems occer, typical mistakes parents make and tons of info on the basics of potty training. I highly recommend this as reading for any parents... it's short and easy to read. Terrific for late night reading after the kids are asleep!

Summary: Getting It Right
Review: I'm going to rate the book four stars because it worked well for my youngest son but it's not so good for older children. My first born was extremely smart but could care less about the potty. His brother saw how he used the potty and was finally successful in his own time, so the youngest benefited from this book a lot more. I would like to share a name of a book that did help with the first born, Mommy-CEO, revised edition, not the older version, helped not only with potty training older brother but also has many answers for other daily confrotations in parenting. But if your kids are beginning potty training early, and not after age three, I Have To Go Potty, may be the right book. Otherwise, you may find Mommy-CEO much more helpful and it has many other topics as well.

Summary: An excellent book!
Review: I've read several potty training books, and this is by far the best one. It has helped me be more relaxed, and consequently potty training is going really well. A quick read, with lots of little stories we can all relate to.

Summary: Good tips if you have Potty dilemas
Review: If you are ready to pulll your hair out after several unsuccesful attempts with potty training than this book may help. It lets you know that you are not alone in this quest to get your little one to be potty trained. It offers realstic advice and scenarios for you to try. I was at the end of my rope trying to train my then 2 1/2 yr old daughter. I started late training her because she just didnt seem ready. I had taken advice from parents, inlaws, friends, co-workers, daycare providers, doctors, nurses, the internet and even complete strangers! Everyone seemed to have some sort of magical way to potty train children. Nothing seemed to work completely till I took a deep breath and read this book. After reading it and putting to use what I had read and learned I am proud to say that I trained my daughter in a month. She is 3 yrs old now. There is a lot of information out there about potty training but ultimatley it is entirely up to your child as to when they are ready. Hopefully reading this book will give you a little insight and sanity.

Summary: Sensible, do-able advice
Review: In terms of our potty training philosophy (who'd have thought 3 years ago we'd actually have such a philosophy !?), my husband and I are of the middle-of-the-road persuasion. That is to say, when it was clear that our son was just not ready at 2 years old, we were willing to wait and try again. On the other hand, we did not want to wait until he was on the verge of kindergarten. The wonderful thing about this book is that it gives parents choices that are in tune with those of the parents' and the child's personalities. Honestly, it never would have occurred to me on my own that I could have our son in underpants 2 or 3 hours a day, gradually increasing the amount of time. In my mind I had always thought that it had to be diapers all the time or underpants all the time. This "trick" alone helped us enormously. The anecdotes are well-selected and the book is concise enough for busy parents everywhere. Our son was potty-trained in about 3 weeks. Certainly his readiness had much to do with his accomplishment, but so did the advice given in this book.

Summary: Success!
Review: My daughter was already 32 months old and would NOT even consider sitting on her new potty. My daughter had reached many milestones very early so I was embarrassed and frustrated that she had not even begun the potty training process. I received lots of advice from friends and family but to no avail. I was anxious to start, especially since it was summer and there was minimal clothing involved. I decided some literature was needed as I really had no idea where to start and how to proceed. After reading several reviews on this book I decided to buy the book because it sounded like it gave practical advice. I read the book and decided to use the "Full-time" method. Within 4 days my daughter was trained! I couldn't believe it. She even wakes from naps and nighttime dry. That's not to say she doesn't have an accident once in awhile but the results were remarkable. It was nice to read stories about real people and real solutions. I would reccommend this book to anyone. I am even looking forward to training my son but he's only 9 months so I'll have to wait for now.

Summary: Great resource
Review: My first child just turned 2, and I suddenly realized I knew nothing about how to approach (and accomplish) potty training. This book has been a great resource for me. I think Jan does a great job at providing a loose framework of steps for going about potty training, while reminding parents that every child is different, and to stay flexible. Even backtracking back into diapers after making the leap to underpants is fine if it turns out your child isn't quite ready for one reason or another. The book is easy to read, and the "Tales from the Bathroom" stories illustrate important points while reminding parents that they aren't alone. Highly recommended!

Summary: A Realistic Approach to Potty Training
Review: My son is 3 years and 3 months. And now thanks to this books' very solid, sensible approach he is finally potty trained! Hurray! I needed someone to give me a plan and tell me how to go about it, as clearly my approaches were in vain. A month later we are all done. It wasn't easy, but we stuck to our guns and I feel like I just finished a marathon. I think this author took a great approach by interviewing lots of parents and providing lots of creative and different approaches to the same challenges we all face. We adopted some of them and it worked!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: BUY IT, IT'S GREAT!!!
Review: Offers GOOD, PRACTICAL advice for the approach to toilet training, as well as handling every one else's comments (or criticisms) about how you're doing it! Entirely comprehensive; complete with "Stories from the Bathroom" about REAL parents with REAL problems. A very enjoyable read!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Some good advice........BUT......
Review: The author gives some good advice on the steps toward potty training, however, I was shocked by her idea of using "mineral oil" to help with a child's constipation. Not once did she say to the readers to feed their children more fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Mineral oil is known to inhibit the absorption of vitamins in the digestive system and should never be used in children less then 6 years old. My son is 2 years old and eats plenty of fiber. He has not once needed mineral oil for constipation. The author wasn't thinking clearly on this one so I'm giving her three stars. Otherwise, the book was fairly decent as far as the basic steps toward potty training goes.
