Rating: Summary: Just can't say enough about this book... Review: I'm expecting my first in June. I've been reading tons of books. I got "Baby Bargains" and LOVE it! I decided to give this book a try. So glad I did. Easy to find info. Everything is outlined wonderfully. (Check out the Table of Contents-I can't find one book that gives all that info in an easy to read format!).The book could easily fit in a diaper bag or purse. Also, the author (pediatrican) gives her opinion on certain things-attatchement parenting, breast feeding, etc... but doesn't go overboard and make you feel like you're making a HUGE mistake by not breastfeeding or if you co sleep with baby. I've read numerous chapters bf the baby is even here. A wealth of easy to read, comprehensive info. LOVE this book.
Rating: Summary: The parenting book I have wanted Review: If you are a new parent like me, you have probably spent a small fortune on parenting books. I was completely clueless about having a newborn in the house! I was desperate for the information I needed to make informed and educated decisions about everything from diaper wipes to spit up and beyond. None of the books I had bought previously helped as much as Baby 411. This book is organized in a way I can the info I need quickly-which is a real lifesaver when I hardly have time to take a shower with my 11 week old! I also appreciate the fact that the authors want me to understand the nitty gritty details of my child's health. I am sure my pediatrician would be happy to explain all this stuff to me if I asked, but I simply don't feel there is enough time in my well baby checks to get this level of information. I realize that there is no one size fits all here, but I think Baby 411 is the most helpful book I have read and many other parents will benefit from the information, humor, and practical advice that this book offers.
Rating: Summary: Quick answers to quick questions Review: My husband and I read through this book almost cover to cover before our son was born. We referenced it many times those first few months, particularly the section on The Other End. We particularly like the clear advice on when to call the pediatrician. We felt much more confident in ourselves as new parents. It does favor the Ferber method and is against cosleeping (which we do), but overall we were very pleased with it. More than most books, it gave views of many different experts on lots of contentious issues.
Rating: Summary: Practical handy book Review: Nicely formatted and easy to use. Lots of practial tips and reassurance on many topics. Very reader friendly. Also recommended for the first year: Gentle Baby Care by Elizabeth Pantley
Rating: Summary: All in one book Review: Okay, I need to write a review of this book because I want everyone else out there to know there IS a baby book that covers everything parents want to know about. As a new parent, I have bought books about health, sleep, development, nutrition, etc because I could not find a book that covered these topics in any significant way, with the detailed info I was looking for. The books that I bought that were supposed to 'cover it all' like What to Expect didn't give enough info on any one topic. I also found it hard to find what I was looking for because of the way the book is arranged.I loved Baby 411. It really covered all the bases. The chapters are organized by topics and they cover the biggies: sleep, nutrition, development, vaccines, common illnesses, infections (and when it's okay for my child to go back to daycare). And each topic is really thorough and takes you through the entire first year-explaining how your baby adapts and changes-and how parents need to adapt with their baby. I particularly liked the nutrition section which was divided by liquid nutrition, solid nutrition, and general issues. No other book gave me the details like how much volume of formula/breast milk a baby takes in (it's based on weight). It also gave me the info I was looking for regarding introduction of solid food-how much, how often, when to offer the more risky allergy foods. I thought this book was terrific and will recommend it to all my friends.
Rating: Summary: A great book for newby parents Review: This book is a great reference for new parents who are fretting over what to do. Refering to her book has kept me from calling my doctor for the most minor thing. This is not to negate that a person should keep from calling the doctor. After reading about what was happening and doing what Dr. Brown says in the book everything settled down. It is a great reference for someone who knows nothing about babies.
Dr. Brown gives very practical advise and is not one sided at all. When it comes to sleep propblems she gives you different options to look into, but tells you what she thinks worked best for her. I find her to be very refreshing and down to earth. It is a easy read book and gets straight to the point.
Rating: Summary: Good Advice for New Parents Review: This book is a great resource for new parents who have little time and lots of questions. I recommend it to all my patients.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: This book is a wonderful reference book. As a first time mom, I am so confused by all the advice that so many different people have to offer. So much of the information in this book is very straight forward and easy to understand. I haven't yet bought Baby Bargains or Toddler Bargains, but they are in my shopping cart!
Rating: Summary: Up-to-date and concise resource, Excellent Review: This book is FABULOUS - it's written in a concise manner, is the most up-to-date baby book available, and is filled with logical medical advise. It really "empowers" parents and I found the language to be friendly and not at all condescending. As a medical professional and 1st time mother, the data-based approach is fabulous. In contrast to other readers, I thought the sleep section reflects other resources I have read on the subject (Babywise is not safe, etc). The quantity of material is immense and this is my favorite reference on my infant.
