Summary: TOTALLY UNTRUSTWORTHY INFORMATION
Review: After reading this book, I was completely dumfounded that it had received such good reviews. This book takes strong stances on areas of pediatric speciality that contradict leading pioneers in those fields. In addition, this books bases much of it advice on 1 study - and this is NOT science. Studies need to be reproduced before findings can be trusted.

For example, the authors use 1 study to insist that supine (back) sleeping leads to less vomiting and spitting up - This was one of the first red flags for me. According to pediatric gastroenterologists in both Europe and the US, based on NUMEROUS recent and past studies, back sleeping INCREASES reflux. This a well known fact. I could go on and on.

I found myself wondering if I could really trust any of their recommendations at all?????? The answer was no! and the book is in the trash. I couldn't even allow myself to re-sell it. In the end, I think the format (Q&A style) is highly appealing to all of us who are in a big hurry for information FAST - but this book compromises accuracy and thoroughness - this is a short cut that shouldn't be taken - not with recommendations for my child, at least!!!!

Wish I could rate this book a -10 instead of a 1.

Summary: Nights Free of Worry
Review: Any new mother or father who has spent their evenings pacing the floor worrying about their baby MUST have a copy of this book. Baby 411 is very reader friendly and extremely helpful for parents who find themselves laboring over whether or not their child's temperature/cough/bowel movements require a call to the doctor at 2 o'clock in the morning. While my husband and I are clearly able to determine an emergency from a non-emergency we are new parents and overly cautious at times. Baby 411 is an extremely helpful book with practical information that continuously puts us at ease. For the first 6 months of our baby's life this book held a spot on our coffee table and still isn't far out of reach. Baby 411 is the perfect gift for those expectant parents and grandparents in your life.

Review: As a first time parent, I read this book prior to having my baby and continued to look at at constantly as a reference guide to everything about my baby! It has saved me so many trips and phone calls to my pediatrician. Dr. Brown gives really great advice that is easy to read and makes you realize that you are not all alone in this new world. I would highly recommend this book for any parent or grandparent, first time or not!!

Summary: Finally, a great book for the 1st year
Review: As a practicing pediatrician for more than 30 years I was asked by the author to review this book with the great title, BABY 411. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The format was well done and followed a logical presentation. The content, from both a medical and practical standpoint, was very accurate and informative. It has all the information necessary for parents prior to their baby's birth and throughout the first year of life. Moreover, the information is presented in a thoughtfull, humorous and entertaining manner. I will recommend it to my patients. I look forward to TODDLER 411.

Summary: ULTIMATE OWNER'S MANUAL
Review: Baby 411 is the ultimate owner's manual for babies. As a mother of infant twins, I have read MANY parenting books. None holds a candle to this one. Most books, like the What to Expect series, are wishy washy and don't really give you the answers you need at 2 am when you are afraid or embarrassed to call the doctor and too worried about your baby to go to sleep. I honestly have yet to find a question that has not been answered in this book. It's like the authors have read my mind! I buy this book for all of my expectant friends.

Summary: I loved Baby 411
Review: Baby 411 reminded me of my old friend Dr. Spock when I was rearing my own children. It is so full of practical advice and reassurance to any new mother. I have given the book to a number of friends' children who have new babies. Their response has been overwhelmingly positive. The easy-to-access subject matter makes it very useful.

Summary: Fabulous book
Review: Baby 411 was incredibly useful to me. I have a 6 month old. I bought this book about 4 months ago and have referred back to it at least once or twice a week. It does a wonderful job of explaining both medical and nonmedical topics that parents have questions about. I have relied on it as a resource for introducing solid foods, with lots of practical tips on how to do it. I also appreciated the advice on how to deal with infant sleep. Baby 411 took all the advice that I had heard about on sleep and explained why certain approaches make more sense than others based on infant development and maturity.
What makes this book stand out is how it offers up the explanations for why babies do what they do, and why pediatricians do what they do. Having that insight makes me feel like I can make better decisions.
The book has a super reference section that has many of the medications used for babies, and medications used for moms who are breastfeeding. It also covers alternative remedies and home remedies. There are websites listed for specific topics, and some of them are even linked to the baby 411 website, which is worth the look for the pictures of rashes.
This book promises the 4-1-1 on babies and it really delivers. This is one book that I will not lend out to friends. I'll be using it for quite some time.

Summary: One sided advise
Review: BEWARE THIS BOOK IS BIASED ON MANY LEVELS.
I have only read the first section of this book but I was taken aback the opinions expressed in this ONE section. I am opting to give birth naturally at a birthing center with a midwife(*scoff* according to the women writing this book) for my first birth. I was mildly offended by the fact that both of these women felt the need to scare women who have not given birth into believing they need to have an epidural. In addition, it is unfortunate that neither ever talk about birthing alternatives and do not offer an opinion about natural child birthing methods as well hospital versus birthing center versus home birth. I would love to return this book already but I cannot unfortunately. It is disappointing as a new parent to read such directives rather then differing advice, ideas and thoughts about these kinds of thing. I do not have a clue about parenting as I am first time parent to be with very little experience. I feel I could have spent my money else where on a better book or even a phone conversation with a friend who has children and can tell me more. Just beware when buying this book that if you do not have the same feelings about things as these women you may be disappointed by the one sided opinions about birth and how to raise your child.

Summary: A great reference book.
Review: During my 35 years of Pediatric practice, I have not read a more practical and user friendly reference. The format enables the parent of young children to quickly find answers to the questions that they might be too embarrassed to ask their pediatrician. It will be the book you will go to first when questions arise.

Summary: The parents primer
Review: Finally a realistic book of guidance for the the first days of being pregnant to the first scary days at home with baby and for the years to come. Dr. Brown has found a way to pass on pertinent information in a reassuring manner essential for the first time parent. Second and third time parents will also find Dr. Brown's advice a refreshing guide to issues that they may be facing again. Bravo Dr. Brown for a job well done. This is actually a great shower gift or a better yet, give it to a friend wwho has just announced her pregnancy.
