Review: I can't thank Kevin Leman enough for his wisdom and insight. I feel incredibly fortunate to have come across this book as well as it's author - I plan on purchasing another, "Bringing up kids without Tearing them Down..." Parenting is sooo hard if you try to figure it out alone but Leman makes it super simple and what better standard than the one set forth by God. I am a far better parent having read this book. My perspective of my role has completely changed and is much healthier, happier, and comfortable. And it's so simple! Thank you Kevin Leman for writing this book - the ONLY book necessary for properly raising our children.

Review: I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of practical examples to use besides just talking about how to handle certain situations in theory only. Of course most of the things he suggests really are common sense. Unfortunately most people get so wrapped up with trying to keep their kids happy that they forget common sense sometimes or prefer to take the easy way out and let their kids get away with murder. I highly recommend this book for the christian family looking for smart ways to help guide them in parenting their children.

Review: I keep having to buy new copies of this book. People borrow it and then tell their friends to read it, and the cycle continues until the book disappears again. As long as people are reading it and learning from it, I'll keep buying new copies. It should be in every home with children. Kevin Leman is a wonderful author with a great sense of humor!

Review: I love parenting books because they are always full of good ideas, even if you don't necessarily agree with everything in the book. THIS book, however, was fantastic. I'm a pretty easy-going person, so as long as their safety wasn't at risk, I would generally allow my kids to have way too many liberties.

Dr. Leman describes pulling the rug out from under the little buzzards. If a child begins whining about dinner, then simply throw dinner down the garbage disposal and excuse the child from the table.

Yikes, that seemed a little harsh to me, but I felt as though my little ones had way to much control over me, so I gave it a try. WOW. It worked.

He also discusses the necessity of making your relationship with your spouse a priority. The best gift you can give your children is a strong marriage! And they will feel more secure going through life with parents who show love and respect to one another.

I'm a huge fan of Kevin Leman now. I can't wait to read what else he's written!

Review: I've read a LOT of parenting books. This is the best one I've read by far. His methods teach a balance of respect and discipline that make so much sense! And it works! I have been trying to move away from so many punitive measures in disciplining my kids, but I could never buy into the completely positive discipline style of discipline. This book (and video series) was a true answer to prayer for me and my husband. It teaches a balance of punishment and discipline with self control and respect. We have been trying to apply this philosophy in our family, and this book gives great practical examples. I have seen a real difference in my kids and have felt it in myself.

Review: It is so appropriate that this is my first Amazon review. Well, my boys are 23 and 20. They were raised on Dr. Leman's wisdom since they were very young children. They are both Eagle Scouts, both loving, well adjusted young men. They were raised with appropriate consequenses as per Dr. Leman's advice; and I had the benefit of this book acting as a trusted friend when I had the occasional doubt as to my parenting skill and direction. This book still sits on my book shelf (awaiting grandchildren so that I can pass this on to my boys). With Dr. Dobson's classic, "Dare to Discipline" and Dr. Leman's excellent tool, "Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours", any parent will find the voices of reason they need to help define the paths that their children will take on the road to becoming responsible adults. It worked for my family! Thanks Dr. Leman!
