Review: Although some of the suggestions were difficult to follow (especially the one about expressing milk at work 3 times during the day), I found I could modify them to suit my schedule. It worked just great for me. I found the book's suggestions/ideas on how to encourage your employer to become more "mother-friendly" to be especially useful. The book even includes a sample proposal for a lactation room.

My son is still happily nursing at 2 (yes, years...). I guess you could say I was successful. I didn't need a book on working and pumping myself, but I had been looking for a book to help show other new moms that working and breastfeeding were compatible and this one fit the bill perfectly. It was an absolute delight and very informative. Some of the solutions I had worked out for myself were not in Ms. Pryor's book but some of hers were new to me. Overall, I found it to be the best book out there on this subject and I recommend it enthusiastically whenever I am asked.

Review: As I was looking at returning to work, I needed some reassurance about continuing to breastfeed. This book not only provided encouragement, but also offered great information on encouraging let-down, getting your employer to provide a clean, private place to pump, as well as information on the working-mom's ever-present threat, mastitis. When you purchase your breast pump, get this book as well. Also, if you know of any moms-to-be that will be returning to work, consider this book as a shower gift, coupled with breast lotion and other mommy-related items.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent Book Review: even if you aren't returning to work (I took her advice and remembered that staying home was also an option that I took, although this is not what the book in ANY WAY "pushes"), this is the best, most consise breastfeeding advice I found in a book. Her writing style is excellent and the information is completely consistent with what I have learned from those I trust (lactation consultants, other mothers in my breastfeeding group, pediatricians, etc.). She puts her opinions out there, but in a really gentle way...without judgement or forcing it on you. (clearly she is a fan of co-sleeping, but doesn't make you feel like you have to be.). I recommend this to anyone and especially those who will go back to work.

When I read the suggested schedule for a 4 month old, I was shocked. the schedule has you nursing or pumping a tremendous number of times including 3 times during the night and at 8:15am and 5:30pm as well as twice druing the work day. Only a superhuman with a very understanding boss who lives very close to work and needs almost no sleep coud pull this off. This book made me feel that nursing while working was almost impossible without giving up on sleep and not being very productive at work. Now that I am back at work, I find that working and nursing can be accomplished on a much easier schedule than the book shows. Working mothers need support not unrealistic goals.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: great book for working moms Review: I couldn't have breastfed my baby for as long as I have without the help of this book. I give it as a baby shower gift, combined with La Leche League's "Womanly Art of Breastfeeding".
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Must have for nursing moms returning to work Review: I don't spend much time reading and this book provided me with a ton of info in an easy to read, consise manner. The plan that Gale lays out for nursing moms to prepare for going back to work is absolutely the best. I know lots of nursing moms that returned to work and were constantly worried that they weren't pumping enough to feed their baby for the next day. I followed Gales guidelines and generally had 2 weeks to a month of milk in the freezer ready to go. I never worried about having to supplement with formula - even if I was out of town for a week on work. I believe it is the main reason I was able to nurse both my children for 14 months before they were fully weaned and work full time+ at a very stressful job. The book also provided lots of other good info to think about as well as resources (lacation rooms, what type of day care you want, interview questions, PT work schedules). I did not feel like Gale was a huge proponnet of co-sleeping. She did provide it as an option and provided info about why you might want to do it. But as with all her suggestions or thoughts I felt they were presented in a matter of fact manner and left it up to me to decide without adding a component of guilt - we all know that we put enough of that on ourselves already!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: all the info I needed Review: I guess I should consider myself fortunate that while my mothers generation was strongly discouraged from breastfeeding, my generation is encouraged to do so. Researchers have discovered many benefits of breastfeeding, the biggest selling point of all being the antibodies which no formula can reproduce. At my OBGYN's advice, I took a class on breastfeeding. That class left me with more, not less questions. I know I am going back to work just six weeks after having my baby, and that I am going to need to express milk to feed him. There was very little explained about pumping in class, and I was worried that nipple confusion might be caused by my baby being fed breast milk from a bottle when I wasn't around. I feel that this book answered all of the nagging questions that I had, and I now feel much more confident about my decision to breastfeed while going back to work full time.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: REALLY HELPFUL Review: I purchased this book after the birth of my son, hoping for some insight into combining work and motherhood. There was some useful information, but most of the book made me feel inadequate for not co-sleeping with my child. The general message is that you will not be able to bond and maintain closeness with your child if you choose not to co-sleep. My son is now 5 months old and I continue breastfeeding, pumping and working fulltime and feel very good about our relationship. I wish the other reviews I read had been more upfront about this issue.
