Summary: Feeling normal to be crazy!
Review: I've read at least 10 books on separation, divorce, etc. Now at six months into my separation, I'm feeling "crazier" than ever. When I picked up this book, I knew it was exactly what I needed. It has helped me realize the normal processes I'm going through. If you only read one book on divorce recovery, this should be it!

Summary: I find the cause of divorce they give questionable
Review: In all, I found this book to be interesting and at some points, comforting. A fast and easy read, which did make me re-evaluate our relationship. I do question the repeated statements that the submissive spouse would be the one to cheat and leave . . . In my case, an abusive, alcoholic, adulterous, domineering husband left, dropping the bombshell that he was cheating for 6 out of 6 years. At a time when my self-esteem was crushed ("what kind of [person] am I that a [person}like him doesn't want me!") it hurt worse that the betrayed spouse was portrayed as the domineering one . . . when my life, job, education and friends were all controlled by this man! Outside of one sentence in the entire book regarding alcoholism changing relationship dynamics, it didn't apply to my situation specifically. Taken with a grain of salt, however, it did open my eyes to many of the tactics he applies and how we related to each other.

Summary: Trafford has experienced it and writes a truthful account
Review: In my son's words, "...my Mom took the worst thing and made it the best thing.." My divorce was the most painful yet the most liberating event of my life. This contradiction is typical of what you deal with as you go through the process, and Abigail Trafford charts a very realistic course through the journey. Her stories about individual couples was particularly helpful to me in discovering that there really is no "victim" in the divorcing couple. If I had to pick one "manual" for anyone dealing with divorce, this would be the one.

Summary: An Absolute MUST!
Review: It's been over a year now since I first began my divorce and read "Crazy Times". It helped me out immensely. Now, a year later, I'm reading it again. It's a MUST to re-read this book as you go through the different stages yourself....without this book, I would have gone Crazy!!

Summary: I felt that the author knew me and my ex!
Review: Ms. Trafford starts from the premise that in any unhappy marriage, the spouses are trapped in an unequal relationship. One is dominant and the other is submissive. If they cannot figure out how to escape from that imbalance, then they are deadlocked. I realized that not only was my marriage deadlocked, but my divorce negotiations were deadlocked as well. The same issues that made my marriage so insufferable were stopping me from consummating my divorce. This book has case histories that exemplify the lucid discussions about divorce. They explain how "crazy time" took hold of my life. I felt that Ms. Trafford was talking directly to me. She helped me to get out of my deadlock and into the resolution phase of my personal tragedy. I recommend this book to anyone who is trying to understand divorce.

Summary: saved my life
Review: No psychobabble, just reality at a time when you need it most. If you don't find this book helpful then you are in an extreme state of denial. The first place to stop if you are looking for guidance (not therapy) at this time in your life.

Summary: Best one I have read
Review: Of all the divorce recovery/self-help books I read (and there were many) this is the only one in which I found all the information useful and really related to. I recommend this for anyone going through a divorce, especially a "surprise" divorce. It really helps you understand and validates your feelings and gives you clues as to your spouse's behavior.

Summary: Trite and simplistic
Review: Some people who are going through strongly dramatic emotional situations get crazy. I appreciate this book for sympathizing with that fact. The little vignettes are used to support it might bring a sense of "I'm not alone" or "I'm not crazy" to readers who maybe aren't finding that kind of support in their immediate surroundings.

But the book held nothing new, insightful, or helpful for me. It was recommended to me by a friend who has gone through an 18-month traumatic breakup with a man who was ALMOST the man of her dreams, and since I've also experienced drawn-out breakup process that I felt nearly killed me, she was overwhelmingly certain that I would like the book as much as she did. I hardly ever can say this about a book that I've chosen to read, but in this case I found it a waste of my time and money.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: REQUIRED reading for anyone in any stage of divorce.
Review: The book is insightful and thought provoking. It is very helpful to find out that other people went through the same emoptions as as I did. I give the book to friends who are going through divorce or the break-up of a significant relationship
