This book stunned me. I saw myself and all of my friends as we were 20 years ago in this book. The way Mary Phipher describes these girls situations was dead-on. I think this book has really helped me understand why I do some of the things I do and I'm hoping I can help my daughter avoid some of the traps that girls of my generation fell into. A must read for anyone who loves a girl.

Review: The problems of each girl were different and dealt with differently, but in many cases they are not alone. Girls everywhere deal with these kinds of problems. This book lets each girl read situations other girls have faced, how they felt, and what they did about it. I really found it to be interesting because I did not know some of the things that go on. I came from a family that did not have any problems but the simple arguments.

As an overachiever who uses cutting as a coping mechanism, I truly thought I was alone in my struggle. As a result of randomly picking up this book, I have been able to seek help. I am sure this book has helped other teenage girls, parents, and teachers as well.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The book was very interesting and a great learning experienc Review: The novel was an excellent learning experience. I felt as if I knew the young ladies that experienced the horrible rapes, sexual assault, family problems and etc. I also felt sympathy for the young ladies that experienced bulimia and anorexia. I too feel as if I have a weight problem. I have some to tell me that I look great and others to say that I am fat. It is a hurting feeling. I would recommend this book to anyone who are experiencing some type of tragedy in their lives or just to read as a learning experience.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What Amazing Insight Review: This book was a gift from my sister-in-law, and what a wonderful gift it was. Mary Pipher writes about adolescence and its perils with wide-eyed honesty. Her accounts of first-hand experiences with girls and what they deal with during adolescence seem to surprise not only the reader, but even the author. As a society, we have set up catch-22 expectations for girls, and we spring the traps just when they're old enough to care, but still too young to know better. Ms. Pipher clearly describes the radically narrow peripherals some young girls force themselves to live in today, and details the constructions of each self-made prison. Luckily, she also shares experiences with girls who are thriving and succeeding in the hurricane of adolescence. As in real life, some of the stories end happily, and some just end. The reality and gravity of this book was startling: each story brought to mind a real individual or individuals I knew in high school, junior high, and even elementary school. Be prepared for eye-opening realizations on each page. This is NECESSARY READING for anyone who is or knows or may one day be a woman. This means YOU! And for all those people who've ever used the excuse "I just don't understand women", read this book and get a twenty-ton clue.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: True selves can be saved with the proper understanding. Review: I am a college student and I had to read "Reviving Ophelia" for my education class. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it helped me better understand who I was as an adolescent. The real life stories helped make the book more interesting. It showed that bad things really can and do happen to young, adolescent girls and it's not just things you see on television. The book shows how society can unintentionally be so cruel to young girls and encourage them to be someone they are not. Pipher taught me that it is possible to help girls, who have adopted a false "identity", find their true selves again. It helps to have an understanding of what the girl is going through. I would recommend the book to any parent who has a daughter, any adolescent girl, and any adolescent boy for that matter. I believe the book will help any of these people better understand adolescent girls. It was truly an amazing book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: This book should be read by all adolescents. Review: I read this book for an education class in college. I found that it was easy to read since it is composed of a myriad of small stories. I could relate well with the stories since I am twenty years old. It made me understand what many girls have to go through; I had many friends and acquaintences that I could place into the stories. However, several stories had no endings; as a reader, I prefer closure.
