Summary: Tremendous Insight
Review: Being the mom of our newly adopted 5 1/2 year old daughter, this book has been a source of tremendous insight and understanding to the many emotions and behaviours our daughter is exhibiting. To read first hand from one who has been adopted, Sherrie Eldridge tells it like it is and as a new adoptive mom, I wanted to hear these things. I have desperately longed to know what my daughter is feeling and thinking and following the guidelines and adivse in this book has brought healing to our daughter and a great source of strength to us.
We have affirmed her pain and yet dealt with the negative behaviour to help turn her around to positve behaviour. We have answered her questions in complete honesty about her birth mom. she may only be 5, but she wants to know the truth. She still remembers her mother very much for she has only been separated from her for 3 months. Explaining the truth has given our daughter permission to transfer her affection to us as her adoptive parents. We tell her over and over that we love her and we will never leave her, that she is ours forever. she loves to hear this and it brings security to her emotional being and it frees her to give affection to us. This book has been a valuable tool to help us parent our precious little girl and bringing healing to her hurting heart. I highly recommend this book for all who adopt.

Summary: Imperative For Adoptees and Adoptive Parents!
Review: This is the book that adoptive families can't afford to miss. As an adult adoptee I wish my parents had read this when I was growing up. It is full of life-giving ways to pattern the healthy adoptive home environment. Now as an adoptive mom I cherish the wisdom which Sherrie Eldridge has articulated that both illumines my past and lights the future for my familiy and my son. It's the book I want to give as a gift to all adoptive families.

Summary: Insightful and extremely helpful
Review: My husband and I were considering adopting some older children from the Philippines and this was the first book we read. It really gave us a lot of insight and a glimpse of adoption from the point of the adoptee. Very realistic and gave a lot of food for thought. I highly recommend it!

Summary: A must read for every adoptive parent or parent to be
Review: We can't get enough information when it come to parenting adopted children. This is why I reccomend Sherrie's book. It is insiteful - coming from an adoptee - it tells it like it is to parents. It is an easy read too. There are still a lot of myths to overcome in parenting and teaching the general public about adoption. This book becomes a very helpful guide for both. There are few if any quite like it. Keep writing Sherrie.

Summary: Really Touches a Responsive Chord!
Review: This was excellent! Being both an adoptive parent as well as a seminar leader, I am so thankful for Sherri's book. Adoptive parents at meetings I have held have thanked me profusely for this information. Well written, sensitive and it answers for adopted children/teens as well as their parents the questions they never knew to ask.

I highly recommend it. If you only had two books on adoption, this needs to be one of them.

Summary: Open Up Communication with your Adopted Child
Review: Sherrie Eldridge's book Twenty Things etc...is the single most important book I have in my library. It allowed me and showed me, how to open up a positive and loving dialogue with my, at that time, 10y/o daughter. I no longer am trying to figure how she feels at every step. I now know how she feels, she knows that I understand her more and am more sensitive to her feelings. My daughter didn't talk about being adopted and that worried me, it doesn't any longer because she and I shared the book and I read many chapters to her and we discussed it together. We know we are both lucky to have each other, but we also realized that adoption has it's grieving moments too. Read it and add it to your collection.
