I was amazed at the accuracy of the profiles of each one of my children. My husband and I spent more time laughing and wondering if the authors had somehow snuck in and observed our family! I came away from the book with a deeper understanding of type and the recognition that each one of us is wired in a different way, and each type has something to contribute to this world. There is always a danger in identifiying type and pigeon holing children, but used correctly, this book is an extraordinarily valuable tool in parenting and understanding the children in one's life. The Myers-Brigg Personality Indicator was totally new to me and lead me to all sorts of studies about personality typing. This book gives an excellent overview of type for a novice. I recommend it highly and encourage readers who finish this book to explore Enneagram personality studies to gain an understanding that goes even deeper than the MBTI. It's all so fascinating for this ENFP!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: "Type" for Teachers Review: Although written for parents, Nurture by Nature is especially helpful for teachers because it encourages the development of children in their natural style. By helping a child to accept and become the individual he/she was designed to be, we encourage the development of emotional intelligence. This includes knowing what feelings are, using them to make good decisions, managing disposition and controlling impulses. By taking the time to understand and assist a child with recognizing their motivations, like and dislikes, what and why they think about things, we encourage the development of self-confident, secure, caring, and emotionally intelligent adults.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Great for those unfamiliar with personality type theory Review: As a parent, I found this book to provide remarkable insights into my child's behaviors, motivations, strengths, and weaknesses. Although I was already quite familiar with personality type theory, I still found this to be useful information. For those who are not familiar with this theory, this book will provide tremendous new insights. As a prime example, I learned things I previously thought were problems, were in fact how my ENFJ child is supposed to act. When I changed my behavior to match her personality *her* problem diminished. Another cool ascpect of this book is learning how to understand how your children are similar or different than yourself. A final thing to note: although this book is long, only about 25-30 general pages and another 20 or so specific pages will apply to your child. So, you will be able go through it rapidly. ...

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is absolutely the best parenting book I have ever read. Review: Even though I thought I knew my 5 year old inside and out, I was amazed to work through this book and discover some personality traits of his that I wasnt aware of. This has helped bring some understanding into the "why" he does things a certain way (like insists on wearing only Osh Kosh socks, because "they're the only one's that FEEL right) and also has helped me become more patient and understanding in certain situations, now that I know where he is coming from. I enjoyed this book so much, and believe in it's potential ability to help others become better parents and friends to their children, that I am setting up "classes" at my work to help others work through the book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Recommended Review: I bought this book before I had children because I was trying to understand my own personality a little better. Now I am trying to type my 2-year-old son-at least I am having a great time trying, even though I suspect I won't have any final answers until he is able to express himself a little more. Even at this age though, it helps me to identify different traits and not worry about the differences between him and other children in his environment. I think my son is an ESTJ and I am an INTP-so this book has helped to remind me that my son's way of relating to the world is different from mine, and that I need to consider his actions and needs in his context. Also, I like the fact that different learning styles, activity levels, and verbal abilities are discussed as well as the standard introversion vs. extroversion Myers-Briggs typing.

This well-thought out book rejoices in their differences! I have 2 pre-teens and 1 teenager--and I found their personalities here. It's fabulous and a must-read for parents! You'll feel better about your child and your parenting.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A "must have" book for any parent! Review: I originally checked this book out of our library, but within a few weeks I bought my own copy. I'm amazed at how one book could change the way I look at my children (as well as my spouse and myself!). My husband and I are complete opposites (he's ISTJ and I'm ENFP) but tend to complement eachother's strengths and weaknesses. I was able to see how my ENTP daughter needed more space than I was giving her, and how it was important to save "no" for the big things. My ISFJ daughter has always caused us concern because of the way everything goes over her head. She also has a very difficult time making decisions. Through this book I was able to see more of her strengths and also am better able to deal with her "personality quirks"...it's been a lifesaver! My ISFJ daughter has always been slow to warm up to people, but quick at understanding how things work . She learned chess in one day (on her 7th birthday) and regularly gives us a run for our money! And lastly we have a little ESTP who is only 2 but has already learned the art of manipulation...I guess you could say she was born with it! But now I can use the tips in NURTURE BY NATURE to help with all of their different personalities. I bought this book only 6 months ago and have used it more than ANY other parenting/help book I have. You wouldn't believe how marked up it is! I could probably toss all the others! I only wish that I had found this 10 years ago! It's worth its weight in gold!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: some bad ideas Review: I was introduced to this book by a good friend of mine - Thank you Shirleen! She knew that I was having trouble understanding my son who is 7 years old. When he was a baby I could feel his needs and wants instictively as a Mother. During this past year, I felt that he was developing into a boy, which I could not always understand and I felt myself becoming more and more frustrated with myself. I could understand my daughter 99% of the time, where she is coming from... But when it came to my son, I really felt helpless. I could not understand his logic and his moods and also his retorts to certain situations. This book helped me understand WHY my son does and says certain things and also helped me find solutions on how to deal with his feelings and weekensses and strengths. I highly recommend this book to any parent in need, cause there is hope.
