Summary: It really works
Review: This book is excellent! It really works. I am a working mother and was very nervous about training my little girl. I didn't want a long drawn out process and to be constantly worry about her while I was away. We took a day and did what the book said and it worked. That first day she was potty trained! It you follow the directions... I know it will work!

Summary: What a dreadful way to potty train!
Review: 8 ounces of fluids per hour, to create more toileting opportunities? Rehearsing 10 times what the child is supposed to do when she has an accident, after every accident? That's just way too much to drink, which caused my child to have one accident after another, and the rehearsals just made her more upset and sad. I threw out this book and got 'Mommy! I Need to go Potty!' by Jan Faull instead. Lots of excellent stories for all of us to relate to in one way or another. My daughter is on day two of this much more relaxed approach and has had one accident, and many successes.

Summary: Here we go again
Review: I wrote a review a year ago on this book. In that review, I praised the technique and it's success on my 4 yr+2 week old son. I am amused/irritated by the negative reviewers who think their children are too smart to listen to repetitive talk of using the potty, and staying dry.(It seems like every time a child doesn't do what others do, they are too intelligent.) I took offense to this line of reviewing, because my son is very intelligent, yet somewhat carefree and stubborn, therefore he was not at all interested in using the potty. Plus, I was not initiating the subject, more than a mere suggestion now and then. Well, the technique in this book, followed to the letter, worked in one half of a day. I was amazed, and still don't quite understand how it happened, but I am appreciative, nonetheless. I am writing now because even though my three year old was a breeze to train without this book, once he was ready, I did use the practice sessions to reinforce the importance of being dry. After two semi(only about 6-7 times) practice sessions, he has been bone dry and has not had a single wet pants morning or night for 2 months.(trained on a Friday, 1 accident on Saturday, dry ever since)My point is that you can take what works from this book and leave what doesn't. But don't imply that a child is not intelligent because they WILL listen to the repetitious statements and learn from them. That is the way that most children learn things-repetition. And you do not have to berate or punish a child for having accidents-this book clearing states NOT to do that. This book is a God send.

Summary: Toilet training in Less than a Day
Review: Fabulous! I was at wit's end with my 4 year and 8 month old boy. He had no interest. I was very skeptical that this technique would work. But it does! In 36 hours, I had him peeing in the toilet every day. However, he held his poop for 3 days, and then had 1 poop "dirty pants" incident on Day 5 and then he was trained. We popped the champagne on the 6th day while the child had "potty party cake"

My own added techniques: Talked it up in advance that we would be learning on Saturday. Gathered up all diapers and had child give them to "Baby Daniel" (friend). Unplugged all TVs ("we're concentrating on learning to keep our pants clean & dry"). Used stickers on chart to celebrate successful pants checks. Took child outside on the sidewalk and hosed down when each "dirty pants" incident occurred. (to convey my displeasure with dirty pants)...hey, was that "punitive"? I don't know, but it worked. Celebrated "the end" on Day 6 with potty party (character cake). Parents had champagne. Total # of "dirty pants" incidents: Only 3 (2 on day 2, 1 on day 5...zero since and we're on Day 19. He even stays "clean & dry" overnight! Yeah!

Summary: the worst advice you will ever get
Review: ...My sister in law and I both tried this method. I was motivated and organized and very ready with a second child on the way. At the end of the second day I ended up with a very frustrated, unhappy, confused toddler who was strung out from all of the treats that they recommend giving them! This was my sister in law's experience as well. My son is a really easy kid, and when we did get him trained it was in a matter of a few days, and with no problems- and we used none of their methods. Other mothers I have talked to have had the same results as I have. If you want good advice, do not read this book- try what to expect the toddler years, or "Making the terrible twos terrific " by John Rosemond. We have just used his method with our 2 year old- who was trained by 22 months and pretty easily...

Summary: Outdated
Review: I couldn't believe some of the stuff they wrote in the beginning of this book about how children in diapers were a "source of drudgery" and "embarrassment" to parents. PLEASE! It takes less than a minute to change a diaper.

They also advocate telling the child they are "bad" when they have an accident. I was looking forward to trying this method, but I absolutely will not use this method. "Bad"? Give me a break!

(By the way - the book was written in 1974). I wish I had known that before I wasted my money.

Summary: Children's Librarian - Virginia
Review: I have had dozens of requests from parents for a good book on the subject of tiolet training for their child. Many say that the materials we have on hand at our library do not address the issues of training boy children so much as they do girl children. For years, I have reccommended this book to friends, co-workers, and now to my patrons. I used this book 16 years ago to train my then 24 month old son. It was necessary for him to be toilet trained before he could enter the nursery school I had wanted to place him in. I knew from my reading that my son was ready for the task. This book worked in less than a day! I couldn't believe it, but time proved that the process worked and lasted! My son never had a bed wetting problem, and had only 2 accidents after the one afternoon learning session. There were no residual effects of the porcess that I was ever aware of. He never had a compulsion to play with dolls afterwards, and never reverted back to diapers or training pants(there were no pull-ups in his day!). This book is a must for library shelves, and for any parent who needs to quickly AND effectively toilet train a ready child. I have learned from experience that if a child is not ready for training, no method will be successful, but if he is ready, the tips in the book will make him successful and proud of his efforts.

Summary: It works
Review: I recommed this book to anyone who is willing to dedicate the time it takes to try something new. Children at this age are so willing to please not only you but themselves as well.
I used this book when my now 16 year old was just 19 1/2 months old. I trained her in just under 4 hours and she was both bowel and overnight trained within 2 weeks. Success! I then used this method on my other two kids and had success with both of them.
Much better than other methods of months of messy wet big girl pants! I did use a bit of variation on the methods suggested. I allowed television for a short time. I had to make the baby doll panties and varied things when I trained my son. All in all this method works! What have you got to lose?

Good luck

Summary: Works for all kids????
Review: My daughter is 2 1/2 and she is not using the potty yet.. I got this book because I read good things about it on here. I got it, I did what it said, and I got NOWHERE. My daughter is delayed by a few months in her verbal communications but isnt slow by any stretch of the imagination and she didnt understand what was going on enough to get it. The potty baby was just another baby to her. She held herself the whole time she was on the potty and cried for a diaper.. She fit all the milestones and such but this didnt work for her. Dont buy it if your child is comfortable only in their diaper. My daughter wont pee in the tub or anything.. she cries for a diaper. I wouldnt buy it if your child is like this.
