Rating: Summary: Used on 4 children! Review: I began in 1977 using this wonderful approach with my first child and within 4 hours he got it! Subsequently I have used it on all 4 of my kids (three of them boys) and only one took more than 2 days. I would highly reccommend this to all parents of tots ready for this big step. It is positive and fun! Patti Nilssen
Rating: Summary: Trained my daughter prior to her 2-year birthday! Review: After hearing stories from my mother (and others of her generation) about how in the 'olden days' children were *routinely* toilet-trained before their 2nd birthday, I decided to ignore today's "experts" and go ahead and give it a shot. I did it when my daughter was about 22 months old. I read this book, and it (1) sounded a lot like the method my mother told me she used, and (2) sounded like it was just plain common sense. I followed the basic approach of the book and my daughter successfully used the potty chair the first day we tried it. After her success, she understood the concept and following the first week of training she had fewer than 5 daytime accidents in the years following! Don't let the 'experts' convince you to wait until your child is 'ready'! There is a reason that the twos are called 'terrible' while the ones are not ... the average 1.5-year-old is very cooperative and eager to learn, while the average 2.5-year-old is busy showing you how independent they can be so they will not be as willing to do what you ask them to.
Rating: Summary: Used this method with all my children & it works Review: I have 3 boys with very strong personalities. My oldest is now almost 16 and I had a terrible time training him. I spent an entire year working with him and was only able to get him to urinate on the tree out front! I was given a copy of Toilet Training in Less than a Day and went through the exercises first for stubborn children. When it came time to potty train, it only took a couple of hours and we had no relapses. I used this method with my next two children with the same success. It only took a couple of hours and there were no relapses. I highly recommend using this method of potty training.
Rating: Summary: Potty Boot Camp Review: This book gave totally unrealistic expectations about how long it takes to potty train a child. It makes you feel that if your child does not get it in the four hours or less they say most children get it in you are inadequate. My child is 2 and 1/2 and did not respond well to the methods used in this book. The constant pressure that this book suggests to use made her less willing to use the potty than before we started this training. If you want to put your child through high intensity "potty boot camp" than this is the book for you, but I would not recommend it to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Making potty training positive Review: This book made toilet training a breeze for my two-year-old. She really responded to having a fun day where just she and mommy learned about going potty and staying dry. She felt so proud of herself with all the praise and encouragement the book offers. She really did learn most of toilet training in just 3 hours--including nap and night dryness. Because of the positive spin, toilet training was a happy experience for our little family. Like every parenting manual, you have to decide which techniques will and won't work for your child. The recommended correction if the child does have an accident is to have the child "practice" going potty ten times quickly. That didn't work at all for us. It turned out that for the first few months all she needed was the positive encouragement when she did it right. One technique in the book that really worked for my daughter was calling grandparents to tell them she was keeping her panties dry. She had two thrilled grandmothers who were both so proud they sent her care packages--further reinforcing the positive experience. And she loved hearing me tell my friends how well she did at training. All in all, I think this is a great book to have. I will use it with all of my future children.
Rating: Summary: Doing a Happy Dance! Review: What a God send this book is! It teaches a parent a loving, patient, manner in how to potty train your child. I loved how I was taught to deal with accidents. When my child had an accident, I followed the directions on walking her to the potty chair from all points of the house and she really caught on. The book says that children don't like the "practice" part of the training, therefore, they are less likely to have accidents. Mine, however, didn't mind practicing at all and STILL had no accidents. Anyone who gave this book a bad review or had bad experiences using this book either didn't read it fully or didn't follow the directions as they should have. There should be NO scolding or spanking if your child does not cooperate and no humiliation should be brought on your child at all. It certainly was a bonding experience for me and my daughter and she actually seemed to enjoy the process. She was trained (day) in about 6 hours. Since she is not yet 2 1/2 she still wears a pull-up at night (as suggested in the book). Good luck and I would recommend this book to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended for Motivated Parents Review: This method worked GREAT for my 23 month old daughter. She was totally tt in 3 days (bm too/and nighttime/naps). I really liked this method because she is able to do everything by herself! There is a lot of preparation needed with this method - supplies/rereading/list making AND preparing your child by making sure they will follow directions you give them. The book gives all these details. I highly recommend this method - even with all the preparation and the intensity during the training - it is worth all of it to have a totally trained kid in such a short time. The book also stresses making the whole process fun (which is amazingly possible minus a little bit of the time during training). Good luck
Rating: Summary: You really do get what you pay for--this book is useless! Review: I tried this method with my first child, and it didn't work. I thought it just might be the child, so I tried it again with my second child, and it didn't work with him, either. I think some of the methods in the book are humiliating for the child. I actually threw away my copy rather than sell it or even give it away. Perhaps I should have saved it for toilet paper in case I should run out ;)
Rating: Summary: Amazing-The highlight of my month!!!! Review: I actually found this book at a resale shop in Grayslake, IL with my friend Krystie...she pointed it out and something in me said "I gotta have it"! It was an old book printed in 1976 and yellowing already and I paid a quarter for it but I was willing to pay much more. The new ones are still very low in price. My son Kyle learned the method in 1/2 a day!!! My husband, family and friends were shocked at the positive results! All these 90's new age ways were driving me crazy and Kyle gave up so many times so I said to myself that I needed to go back 20-30 years and do it the way our parents did. The 2 authors, both Ph.D's are fabulous! They actually wrote the book to train mentally retarded adults and children learn how to toilet themselves and those people did it in about 3 days! I belong to a Mom's group and the leader actually asked me to do a talk on the book because all I ever do is rant and rave about it! All Mom's with young ones want my book and I don't ever want to let it go!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Has some really great Ideas Review: This book is a great book to get some good I deas to begin potty training. However if you child doesn't meet all the requirements listed in this book, you won't potty train in less than a day. Mine was too stubborn but it took her about 2 weeks and she one day used the potty all by herself without even telling anyone. I just happened to find out because I caught her running around the house naked. Like I said if you child is stubborn like mine it won't work in a day but this book does give some very helpful tips on starting the process.
