Rating: Summary: If you only buy one book for your child. . .this is it! Review: This phonics-based book taught our 3 year old daughter how to read very well. I have recommended this book to dozens of parents and they have also found that it worked easily with their children. After completing this book our daughter started reading Little House on the Prairie novels (age 4)! Follow the directions provided in the book and then watch your child read and read and read. Our daughter liked the humorous pictures which had to be covered up until the short story was read. She always wanted to peek. The world of reading was opened to her at a young age thanks to this excellent book. Now she reads whatever we provide on the shelves. Isn't that what education is all about? P.S. I'd even recommend it if it cost three times as much money!
Rating: Summary: An effective method Review: My 5 year old son and I just recently finished this book. It took us less than 4 months to complete. He is now reading some of the books suggested at the end of the book, and some other easy readers that I have found. Reading is still hard work for him, but I am so thankful for this program that has given him a great foundation for reading. It is amazing how much he learned in such a short amount of time. I would like to warn that some of the lessons can take a lot longer than twenty minutes, and some of the lessons were very frustrating for him. There are also a few typos in the book, and occasionally an irregular word shows up in a story before it has been introduced. I also found that there was not always instructions for the corrections that I needed to make. I only bring this up because of how it was stressed in the introductions that this is a very careful method, down to the last detail! All in all, it worked very well, but I would not say that my son rea! ds anywhere near the second grade level even though he successfully completed the book. But, he is well on his way! I would also like to note that we ended up skipping the writing portion because I thought it might be confusing since he will be learning D'Nealian in kindergarten in the fall. Also, since he did not know the alphabet at all, I had to supplement that part some.
Rating: Summary: I didn't think my 4 year old would be able to read so soon! Review: I have a son who enters kindergarten in the fall. His new school teaches how to read with the "whole language" method, and I was concerned that he wouldn't learn phonics. He loves this book! For every lesson he completes, he gets a star. Every 10 stars, he earns a new storybook...and he's reading!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST MONEY YOU CAN SPEND ON YOUR KIDS!!! Review: I heard about this book from friend and bought it thinking that my almost 3yr old was way too young -- wrong!!!. My daughter finished the book at age 3-1/2 and just loves to read (she is now 5). I have recommended this book to more people than I can remember -- so much so, that I had it printed on the back of my calling card! What a great way to teach your child and snuggle at the same time!!!!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful phonics reading program with a great price Review: This book is great! I homeschool my kids and I was worried about teaching my 5 year old to read. Before this book, we were doing phonics flash cards. He was bored, and I felt we weren't making any progress. We are now halfway through the book, and he is reading! Now my 3 year old has started the book with me---he insists. He's learning to read now just like his big brother!
Rating: Summary: I was very concerned about my 1st grader's reading Review: My daughter was half way through 1st grade and reading well below average, even though she spent 45 minutes a day with a tutor. I ordered this magnificent book( I have tried many others) and today, 3 weeks after receiving it, I got a call from her teacher telling me how WONDERFULLY she is doing! I am so happy and this book really works!!! Not only is she reading so much better, but her confidence has also improved.
Rating: Summary: Number one source for teaching kids to read Review: After trying several different phonic programs, I stumbled across this book and was hooked instantly. Now, after taking 6 children through
the lessons, I am even more impressed. The lessons
are clear and easy to use. And the results are truly amazing. Every child, from my 3 yo daughter
through the 6 yo day care kids, has come through the book with a second to third grade reading level and a love of reading. It leaves them with a
real "can do" attitude and a confidence in their abilities that is astounding. Definitely the number one source for learning to read. And the price doesnt hurt either.
Rating: Summary: my 4 year old suffers from mild hd & it held her interest. Review: My four year old daughter begun to get curious about letters and signs when she was three. As I myself was an early reader, I was concerned about starting her to read too young. She suffers from mild adhd & occasionally has trouble concentrating. Also, I had some dbouts about my own skills as a teacher. In January of 1997, she turned four. Now it is April. Last night, she read her seven month old sister "Green Eggs and Ham" without my help. The text is easy to read, the lessons are easy to follow, and they are short enough to keep the attention of even a hyperactive child like my daughter
Rating: Summary: This book is incredible - it really works! Review: This book presents 100 simple, easy (20 minute) lessons which enable you to take your child from non-reader to full reader status within a matter of months. Using it, we taught two children how to read when they were 5 years old! This gave them an incredible advantage throughout grade school, and this advantage has stayed with them now that they are in junior high. We give copies of this book to all our friends with young children - I cannot recommend it enough
Rating: Summary: MY 4 YEAR OLD LOVES TO READ! Review: We taught our 4 year old and 6 year old girls how to read in 4 months spending about 20 minutes a day with each girl. One year later, both girls are reading at the second grade level, enjoy reading, and pick up and read books without any prompting from Mom or Dad. Highly recommended
