Rating: Summary: There's no more hiding in the closet! Review: This book has been a great comfort to me in knowing that "we are not alone" with what happens day to day. I love the scene in the mini van in chapter 3. As mothers we experience so much "mother guilt," that this book helps us to keep things in perspective. It also gives us the opportunity to see how we can make changes that will last, and benefit our children and our marriages. With the Lord's help, all things are possible. We cannot do it in our own strength. Thanks, Julie Ann!
Rating: Summary: A Great Resource! Review: This book is a great resource for moms. With warmth, humor, and candor, Julie shares from her own experience and challenges her readers to be pro-active in dealing with their anger -- to keep "Mount Momma" from erupting all over the place! Julie's suggestions are simple and practical. Her approach is "real" and down-to-earth. As a former teacher, I wish I'd had this book to recommend to parents. I know it will help many!
Rating: Summary: A Must Have For Any Mom Review: This book is an honest, open look at what every mother experiences while raising children - anger. She's Gonna Blow will make you laugh, make you cry and make you think about the things you say & do to your children each day. This is real help for dealing with those frustrations. My daughter is grown now, but I only wish I had this book while raising her. There would have been a lot fewer "erruptions" and I'm sure she wishes Mrs. Barnhill had written the book sooner. The author's style of writing makes you feel like you are talking to a dear, trusted friend & is an easy read. You'll really enjoy it!

Rating: Summary: A great book on anger management Review: This book is wonderful at explaining the anger that mothers often feel towards their kids. The book outlines in detail the causes of anger, like bad childhoods, housework, feeling like you have to be perfect, etc. The book then gives practical suggestions for dealing with anger. The author shares her experiences with the anger that she's felt towards her kids and how she overcame it. The book is written from a Christian perspective, but is not at all preachy like some Christian self-help books. She also adds humor throughout the book.
Rating: Summary: I wish you could give it a rating of 0 Review: This book was a huge disappointment. If Jesus is your answer to everything then this is the book for you. However for those parents with intelligence and education it is insulting and condescending. I wanted actual help. Not saccharine urgings to put my faith in myths and stories. It didn't make me less angry. It made me more angry. However, it did validate my feelings of supierority as a person and a parent, so as far as that goes it almost helped.
Rating: Summary: A must buy book for moms Review: This is an unusual book in that it starts you off roaring with laughter and then gently leads you into the very serious and real issue of moms doing damage to their kids . Most moms would never plan to verbally or physically abuse their kids but they get caught in the very real traps Barnhill describes. Maternal frustration and anger is rampant. We moms have lost the ability to connect with each other in today's fast paced world. Reading this book is like sitting down with a "crazy" friend who has overcome a problem and now with humor and sensitivity is leading you to receiving help. I especially liked the comparison of moms to volcanoes . The imagery is clear and believable. The book does have a Christian genre but would appeal to any belief system . As a masters prepared nurse-midwife I work everyday with stressed out , guilty feeling moms. This book will be one I will often recommend .
Rating: Summary: We Don't Have Kids, and It's Still a Good Read Review: We don't have children, and even I liked this book. Why, because I can use the info in almost any situations that can cause me to wanna BLOW with anger! And Ms. Barnhill is very, very funny. The sad part is, in growing up, I thought a mother's anger, no matter how it's presented, was normal. I thought that harsh words and insults and sneered looks and ultimately denial is what mothers do. Not to Julie, and thank God she has a way of taking a very serious subject and turning it into a very funny book. It's part "how to" and part nonfiction essay. She ought to be commended on bravery alone for her self-disclosure, an idea which I'm sure didn't go over well at the dinner table. Note: If you're atheist or agnostic, some material may be a turn off.
Rating: Summary: Saw it on "Oprah" Review: What a well-written, reasoned response to the video of that lady slapping her daughter silly. The author was a guest on Oprah, and offered wise, humorous counsel to parents struggling with keeping their sanity while raising kids. A good read. HIGHLY recommended!
Rating: Summary: Where is the "real" help! Review: When I bought this book I thought I might have finally found something that would give "real" help for dealing with anger. I'll admit the author is a good writer but I do not believe she offered "real" help. Her helpful hints were very broad. I know many moms deal with anger and the author does a good job of making them feel normal. However, this author basically admits to abusing her children and I hope readers don't get the impression that this is normal. Overall I felt this book was a waste of money.
