Rating: Summary: Vicki tells the truth about toddlers Review: Vicki Iovine understands toddlers, which is what makes THE GIRLFRIENDS' GUIDE TO TODDLERS so funny. She captures some of that "slice of life" stuff that can be so mystifying to a first-time toddler parent -- temper tantrums, food fights, and potty training -- and she isn't afraid to admit that there are times when toddlers can be downright exhausting. If you enjoyed Vicki's earlier "girlfriends' guides" you will love this one, too.If you like the tone of this book and you want more of this "slice of life" stuff, there are a few other toddler books you're definitely going to want to take a look at: Jennifer Margulis' book TODDLER: REAL-LIFE STORIES OF THOSE FICKLE, IRRATIONAL, URGENT TINY PEOPLE WE LOVE (an anthology of stories from toddler parents that is both hilarious and incredibly touching); Ann Douglas' THE MOTHER OF ALL TODDLER BOOKS (a guide to the toddler years that is jam-packed with quotes and stories from moms and dads in the toddler trenches, and which contains a chapter called "The Truth About Toddlers"); and Ariel Gore's THE HIP MAMA SURVIVAL GUIDE: ADVICE FROM THE TRENCHES ON PREGNANCY, CHILDBIRTH, COOL NAMES, CLUELESS DOCTORS, POTTY TRAINING, AND TODDLER AVENGERS (the title says it all!).
Rating: Summary: Must-Have for all Toddler Parents Review: Throw away "What to Expect." Just kidding. Keep or purchase "What to Expect" but LISTEN to Vicki and don't worry about what other books say. I'm a completely stressed single-parent of a 23 month-old-boy who could barely walk 8 months ago but can now run from me full-speed while turning to look at me and giggle in pure delight. I'm stressing about him eating enough (and well), potty training, temper tantrums, hitting and everything else you are and this book helped me relax quite a bit. Isn't that what you really want anyway when you have a toddler? Laugh-out-loud book. I loved Vicki's guide to pregnancy...for that you CAN throw out "What to Expect." Vicki just gives it to you the way it REALLY is. It's a must have. I've given it to all of my friends with toddlers.
