Summary: Excellent Resource
Review: Vicki Iovine tells it like it is. She doesn't sugar coat any part of pregnancy or motherhood, unlike those other books that we read. She's been there and experienced that. Her and her girlfriends are just what a new mom needs to survive. We all think that we are abnormal in our pregnancy and birth experience, but Vicki Iovine reassures us that we are completly normal and not to worry. She tells you what your mother and doctor don't tell you.

Summary: Laughing and Crying
Review: I have read the reviews below and see that many people either loved or hated this book.

For my own account, I will state that I read this book when my boy was about 4 months old. In some cases, I wish I had found it sooner. In others, perhaps I am lucky that I did not.

But as someone who had all ready been doing the Mommy thing, I laughed so hard I actually DID cry. I prefer not to think of Vicky's writing as negative, but humorous and frank.

I also can say that she had a *wonderful* section on post partum depression. I never got to the level of dangerous to myself or child, but I certainly was off balance for a while. It was something that no one talked about. I was definitely scared to voice some of the things I was feeling. Even after the fact, reading about them certainly helped.

I would recommend this book to moms...but with the caviat to take it with a grain of salt, and with a chuckle.

Summary: A new mother's must have!!
Review: I couldn't put this book down. Of all the new mom books on the market, this one I highly recommend. I buy this book for every new mom friend I have. Vicki helped me through a lot of long nights.

Summary: Pretty Realistic & On Point
Review: Just bought it. My first baby is due in one week and this is the only baby related/pregnancy book that I have enjoyed. I could not put it down.
It did not scare me as others fear. Plus it echoed everything all of my mommy friends have described but in more detail.

The tone is witty which is a relief after all the pregnancy nazis out there who like to dictate what everyone should and should not do.

I think it's a pretty centrist view of the whole process. Most women are keen to deliver in a hospital and would not find her recommendation on this point off base. Given the epidural statistics in my city, most women in my city share her view of natural childbirth as well.

Summary: First time mother
Review: I received this book after the birth of my son last October. I immediately set to reading it and was sooo very pleased to find something that both entertained and enlightened my motherhood experience. I found it to be funny, and though I found some of the things Vicki talked about weren't true for me I still enjoyed reading about them. If I decide to have a second child someday maybe some of those things will happen to me and I am now aware. I am preparing to buy the book for a friend of mine who is expecting her first child and I will also be buying a copy for all my friends when they chose to have a baby! I highly recommend it to everyone!

Summary: Not for the faint of heart
Review: This was just what I was looking for, Honesty about all things postpartum...If you don't want to face the truth, the good and the bad that come with birth and baby rearing, then don't read this book.

Summary: Needs an update
Review: I didn't enjoy this as much as her pregnancy book. Its out of date, and some of it just rubbed me wrong. I guess I just didn't relate as much. I recently read "Planet Parenthood" and found it hilarious and on the money. I'd check it out instead. Overall its not bad.

Summary: Very VERY Negative...
Review: I have had 2 children but ordered this book for a friend who's about to have her first. I decided to read it before giving it to her, and thank God I did! This book will truly frighten her! There is a lot of information about things that no one seems to tell first time Moms, but the author makes it sound like EVERYTHING that could possibly go wrong will. Although the tone is humorous at times, I don't think new mothers will find page after page of negativity that funny. Yes, having a baby is life changing and difficult at times, but it's not the end of the world.

Summary: Reality Check
Review: If you are looking for a book that makes you step back and laugh your way through the trials than this is the perfect book! I actually read this book before I gave birth and believe me when I say that it tells you "exactly" what to expect. I definately recommend it as something to keep around and read many times!~

Summary: What is with all the negativity????
Review: I realize that this book offers a witty, tongue-in-cheek approach to pregnancy and mothering, but I found it to be so negative! If a woman contemplating pregnancy reads this book before having children, she might think twice about actually taking the plunge. The author makes natural childbirth seem impossible and she basically scoffs at the notion that you can get your body back into shape after giving birth. It is amazing that she chose to have so many children based upn all of the negative things she associates with pregnancy. I prefer a more positive appraoch to the birthing process. After having my first baby 4 months ago (naturally), I eased into motherhood with the normal amounts of anxiety and streses. The pros of pregnancy, birth and motherhood far outweigh any of the cons--and guess what? My body looks exactly the same as it did pre-pregnancy, thanks to a consistent exercise routine. If you want to read this book purely for fun, go ahead, but realize that it is just that---fun. Stay positive!
