Rating: Summary: Inaccurate portrayal of postpartum life Review: I found the majority of the information to be inaccurate through my own personal experiences and also from doctors. I bought this book thinking it would contain good advice and light-hearted humor from a mother who had been through it all. It contained useless drivel based upon just one woman's experience. I agree with the other readers, it was hard to relate to.
Rating: Summary: I just couldn't relate Review: If you aren't wealthy, thin, shallow and a part of Hollywood society this book isn't for you. Parts of the book were humorous, but overall I found Iovine annoying.
Rating: Summary: Overall, this book is disappointing. Review: I like sarcastic, dry humor. Vicki Iovine does provide some much needed comic relief. I enjoyed her first book, but some things irks me about all of her books:1. I cannot relate to someone who weighed just over 100 pounds when she got pregnant and was 150 at delivery. I was closer to 150 at conception and 180 at delivery. I don't want to hear about how fat she was at 150 when that's how much I weighed before pregnancy! :) She's a stick figure and it's annoying to hear her complain about her size. 2. She is married to Jimmy Iovine - a HUGE music producer. Her husband is a multi-millionaire who lived with Stevie Nicks. I'm sorry, but I just don't relate to that. I am quite sure this woman has housekeepers, cooks, chauffeurs, nannies, etc. Her lifestyle is NOTHING like mine. And to hear her complain about how much she does, blah, blah, blah - it's irritating. 3. I am a stay at home mom who chose to bottle feed. Vicki is a work out of the home mom (even though she doesn't have to for financial reasons) and is breastfeeding advocate. Even though I don't think there is anything wrong with Vicki having different parenting styles, I just didn't relate to her. I would recommend borrowing this from your local library if you want to read it. I wouldn't waste the [money amount]on it unless you're a wealthy, working, breastfeeding, celebrity mom.
Rating: Summary: Complain, complain, complain! Review: This book has some funny parts but most of it is just complaining. It seems most of the information is basic stuff that most women already know.
Rating: Summary: As a new mom I loved this book Review: but as an expectant mom, I said, "The author has to be exaggerating. It can't be that horrible to be a new mother." But after the baby was born, I said, "The author is so right! It is that hard in the beginning!" She validates everything you are going through those first few, sleepless, anxiety ridden months - a time when you might feel more like crying than laughing!. A good preview of things to come if you are expecting - but it won't make sense to you emotionally until you have joined the mommy club.
Rating: Summary: A light hearted fun read Review: I loved The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy and this is just part 2. A fun read that makes you feel very normal no matter what strange things are going on with your new baby.
Rating: Summary: Nowhere near as funny as the Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy Review: Not a bad book, but not as funny as the pregnancy book. That one made me laugh out loud. Also, I found some of her "advice" to be disturbing, and some of it goes against American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. I know it's just supposed to be a funny book (and it is), but sadly, I've met a few people who take Ms. Iovine's word as gospel and don't bother to do anything other reading. If only parenting books were as easy to read as her books!
Rating: Summary: This is a good one for laughs Review: This is a breath of fresh air compared to other parenting books, and the author really does know what it's like to be a new mom..all the fears, worries, etc. This really helps you feel like you're not alone in your new life commitment as a mommy. The humor is great...you really will laugh out loud when you read this book. I didn't agreee with 100% of it and felt some parenting styles were slightly criticized (i.e. some aspects of Attachment Parenting such as co-sleeping)but all in all I enjoyed reading it. It's quite a bit like talking to a mom you would meet in the grocery store or the playground, not an impersonal "expert" like some child-rearing books.
Rating: Summary: Funny, Yet Scary Advice Review: I can see both sides in this reviewing process: I am 4 months pregnant and was really confident about my future abilities with the baby - until I read this scary book! Now it's: do we move in with my parents AND/or hire a night nurse for at least 3 nights a week? Otherwise, how are we possibly going to be able to do this?! I get cranky even after 1 nights' sleep that's under 8 hours!! On the positive side, yes, you will laugh out loud at the humor Iovine uses - and, I can reassure you that my first trimester of pregnancy has been far from the bad she describes - I'm only 4 pounds heavier (entering my fifth month), enjoying yoga, weight lifting and great long runs with my doctor's O.K.; my upper arms look great; my feet haven't swollen one bit, and everything about the baby looks healthy. If you can see within yourself to take Iovine's advice as far from hard-and-fast - some things may apply to you; some won't - and, you'd like to know what the very worst would be, just to prepare yourself; and, you enjoy the humorous rather than the clinical and/or saccharine, then this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: Negative Attitude Review: I really didn't care for this book. I got the impression that she is just miserable. I don't know about others, but I do not take advice from people who are unhappy. Find the people who are happy and positive to take advice from, that is if you want your life to be happy and positive. I enjoy every second of being my baby's mom and can't wait to have my next one.
