Summary: Vicki is Vicki
Review: The book is not what you expect? Why not? Vicki is straight forward and quite charming. She's funny and still can make even the most straight laced individual laugh out loud. She's not really whining as some of you have remarked. She's connecting to us as moms. I do wish she would write a little more on breastfeeding and colic. Another book I'd like to advise moms to get is Mommy-CEO, by Jodie Lynn. Just like Vicki, she offers real "words." Both authors have similar insight into the world of children and deserve the titles of "Best Funny BUT TRUTHFUL Mommies." It's the truth that our breast will sag after childbirth. So what? Enjoy the first year and laugh a little while we get ready for the toddler and preschool years.

Summary: One of the best baby gifts I recieved!
Review: Unfortunately, I didn't get this book until after my baby was born, so by the time I got around to reading it, most of the questions and answers and funny stories in the book had already happened to me! Please buy it for shower gifts and women who are pregnant for the first time, and tell them to read it BEFORE the baby is born, while they still have time! It is one of the most helpful, entertaining, easy to read books I have on motherhood, pregnancy, and babies. I buy one for every expectant mom I know.

Summary: No girlfriend,just a Dad
Review: Even though this book is apparently targeted towards the mothers of the nation, I found it to be a good source of information. When my wife had fallen asleep and I still had some nagging worries that I didn't want to bog her down with, I often found myself perusing through Girlfriend. It answered most of my worries concisely and in laymen terms.

As with all baby books, there are some things that don't seem to match with my own thoughts, but the book is not preachy. It does not tell you how bad a parent you will be if you don't follow all of its advice, and there is plenty of room for common sense parenting.

Overall, this book is a good piece for quick, easy reference to the problems you will face the first couple of weeks to the first few months.

Summary: Vicki Knows the Truth!
Review: I found this book to be enlightening, hilarious, and ultimately truthful. Vicki takes the time to tell a new mother what really to expect. While most books focus on the baby, this one focuses on the mother- much needed at such a stressful time! As a new mother myself, I appreciated her candor and humor. She is wise and witty! I will pass this one on to my new-mother friends. I intend to read the toddler book when the time comes. Readers of the L.A. Times Lifestyles section will recognize Vicki from her column. Keep it up, Girlfriend! We feel as if we are in your inner circle of girls "in the know".

Summary: good funny witty book
Review: I have read this as well as the Girlfriends guide to pregnancy. I found both of them helpful and a funny way to look at a situation that you cant change. She writes with a good sense of humor. I hope to read the rest of the series.

Summary: Thanks Again Vickie
Review: Just as wonderful as Vickie's Pregnancy book. A must have for the first few weeks back from the hospital when you're unsure of EVERYTHING. Thanks again Vickie.

Summary: a great resource
Review: Like all the Girlfriends Guides, this is a great and original resource for new parents. Yeah, sure, it's very opinionated, but what are we reading books for except to hear someone else's opinion? In fact, I think Iovine goes far to be non-judgmental and to tell parents to develop their own parenting style and not to be overly critical of themselves. Just because Iovine may have had a different life experince than others doesn't mean her opinions are not valid and helpful to the new parent. But above all, the book is hilarious and if nothing else will have you laughing. As a new (and older)mother of a 10 week old baby I found her pronouncements and advice to be accurate and honest.

Summary: Loved It!
Review: Vicki is a true girlfriend, she tells it like it is. I have all the books on how to take care of your baby, but none on taking care of yourself in this new life you are living. My life has changed a great deal and her words of wisdom really helped me through my tough days and sleepless nights.

Summary: Humorous support for mothers during that first year
Review: I was given this book as a gift at a baby shower. I had read several books regarding pregnancy however after reading this one, I felt it was a wonderful one to suggest to new mothers to allow them to chuckle and say "thank heavens I'm not alone! ". I teach a prenatal exercise class and warn that I'm full of advice being a new mother. Advice is very personal, use it if it works for you, then throw out the rest. I suggest to readers that you read this book after you deliver your little ray of sunshine. I think you will get a lot more out of it comiserating with the authur rather than being "forwarned". I still smile about the author's humor. Enjoy. P.S. I had to buy one for another girlfriend for a shower gift as my own is still out on loan.

Summary: Ladies, Lighten Up!
Review: Let's face it, being a new mom is the hardest thing you'll ever do. Vicki gives us the ability to laugh at ourselves and recognize that you're not alone in your feelings, fears, and fantasies. Vicki tells the truth when no one else does! Where else have you read how breast feeding really feels? It doesn't mean she is not an advocate of breast feeding (she nursed four babies after all), she's not trying to frighten new mothers, but nowhere else do you read that IT HURTS for a while. Wouldn't you rather know what to expect? So get off your high and mighties, ladies, and have a good laugh. You'll have happier babies...
