Rating: Summary: Beautiful Book Review: This is an A+ book! I'm 17 and have a beautiful sister from China. My trips to China have inspired me and I plan to pursue life helping China/orphans! Karin Evans book is very good. I hate reading but this book was too hard to put down! To be reminded of the atmosphere of China & how it is from someone else's point of view. This book is great for those who just want to know more about China's Girls, and adoptive parents should definitely read it! In fact I'm going to read it again-starting tonight :)
Rating: Summary: Good resource for those considering Chinese Adoption Review: This was the first book I read after my husband and I made the decision to adopt a Chinese baby girl. Parts of the book were very moving and I felt the author's emotions through the process of going to China to pick up their girl. Although the historical and political perspectives offered in the book are extremely important, I did feel that at times the information was a bit redundant and not as captivating as the personal story of their adoption. I would highly reccomend this book for those considering a Chinse adoption as it gives a good overview not only of the process and the emotions but also gives a good historical and political perspective of why there are so many children waiting to be adopted.
Rating: Summary: A fantastic book! Review: This well-written, well-researched book has the additional advantage of coming from the heart. Karin Evans has written a book that will inform you as it makes you weep for the babies, their birth mothers and fathers, and those of us waiting to adopt our own daughter. I gave this book to all my relatives (and my husband) to help them understand the process that I've called our journey of joy, as well as to give them a clearer understanding of why China has so many girls to adopt out. I agree with one re viewer's comment that the book sometimes seems disorganized. But this is a minor complaint compared to the value the book brings. I plan to keep this in our library for our daughter to read as she grows into a young adult and wants to better understand her origins.I would recommend this book as the first purchase for anyone considering adoption, and for those who love them.a
Rating: Summary: A Must Read for Parents of Children From China Review: Those of us who are fortunate enough to raise a Chinese child must read this well-written book. There are scads of adoption books that tell one how to adopt a child, or the story of a particular adoption journey. This title includes that information but adds important data not included in other adoption books. Using scholarly and other reliable print resources, the author presents an accurate (as far as we in the West know) description of WHY Chinese girls are abandoned in such great numbers. She outlines the horrifying reasons behind the one-child policy in China, discusses how the law is enforced or not enforced in various Chinese regions, and the cultural preference for boys. More importantly, the book includes some information on the grief felt by those parents forced to abandon a daughter. When our daughters from China are older, they will almost certainly want to know why they were abandoned. This title cannot speak to all individual circumstances, but it certainly clearly explains the social, demographic and economic pressures that force child abandonment. N.B. the author takes pains to outline why, in China, abandonment is an adoption plan.
Rating: Summary: Thank- you Karin! Review: Wow! Marvelously written. It is informative, thought provoking, insightful and stirring. Karin Evans has done a great service to all those who have or will adopt from China, their families and anyone interested in understanding or getting a glimpse of the situation in China that has led to these precious girls being abandoned and their hope for tomorrow.
