Summary: Finally, a diet that does what it promises!
Review: I have been on Dr. Pescatore's plan for a week now, and the results have more than met my expectations. I almost dismissed it as another fad diet, but the tenets of the diet make this a healthy lifestyle rather than just a weight loss plan. I HAVE lost 8 lbs. already, but better yet, I feel healthy and satisfied. I have not felt deprived in any way, and the food choices are great. By basing my diet on whole, fresh foods rather than foul-tasting low-carb processed food, I have seen my metabolism speed up. Along with my new exercise routine, this diet will have me ready for my vacation in the Caribbean in no time!

Review: I have tried every diet under the sun and this is truly the best. Weight comes off fast, no hunger pangs, and plenty of energy. This is a life-style change diet that I can be on the rest of my life. The benefits are that the whole foods and nutrition shoul also reduce my risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The focus on good fats is outstanding!

Summary: Seems like a huge Add for Mac-Nut Oil - Not easy to find
Review: I read an article about this plan in a woman's magazine. I purchased the book because the plan sounded good and the recipes sounded like something I would eat.
I read the book and I thought, this doesn't sound too bad but I found myself looking everywhere for MAC-Nut oil or some version and no one had it. I just found myself frustrated after a week of searching and it only available on the web.
I read the Fat Flush program prior to reading this, that was ok but very regimented.
I read this and the food was different that what I would normally buy, but I tried it because I wanted to find something that would work for me.
After being frustrated for a week and half I bought South Beach. I read that book and found the plan to be made up of things I would eat and the items were normal grocery store items so no hunting at the health food stores or buying online.

Just beware.. you may be reading a big add for Australian Macadamia nut oil if you buy this book.

Summary: It's Atkins without the high fat!
Review: I was expecting alot more from this plan as I read so much about it in "Low Carb Living". I was dissapointed. It is basically the same as the Atkins plan but healthier due to the fact that you are using cold pressed monosaturated fats (Macadamia Nut Oil) as your main source of fat. And he tells you to eat lean protein (all fat trimmed off) and lots of fatty fish. This sounds much healthier than Atkins Phase #1, and should be workable for mosts folks, however, there's a catch! Dr. Pescatore wants us to use Australian Macadamia Nut Oil. First of all this is virtually impossible to find (must be special ordered) and it is very expensive (starting at $18.00 a pint). He goes on to suggest that if you can't find the Mac Oil or you can not afford it, then use a high quality "estate produced" extra virgin olive oil. Well I certainly can't afford the mac oil so I checked out the prices of the 'estate produce olive oils" - prices start upwards of $20.00. I can't afford that either. Soooo, I guess if you are average folk you can't be healthy or thin according to Dr. Pescatore. He claims that none of the extra virgin olive oils sold at the grocery are healthy - they all are damaged fats and, therefore, will damage your arteries. The menu plan is also very unstructured and he doesn't really give you guidelines on portions. The recipes (which take up half of the book) are on the gourmet side like the South Beach Diet. This is not a good plan for persons who have alot of weight to lose (unless they are being monitored by a doctor familiar with this regime). I think Dr. Pescatore could have condensed this information into a 60 page booklet. It's simple - just follow the Atkins plan (protein, lots of low carb and green vegies, plenty of water) but switch to healthy oils and trim all the fat and skin from meat and poultry. And take supplements and exercise. That's it in a nut shell. You don't have to spend $20 to $25 for a bottle of oil to be healthy. There are reasonably priced olive oils out there that are cold pressed and not damaged. Dr. Pescatore also wants us to buy only macadamia nut oil and extra virgin olive oil that is produced only in Australia. According to him they are the only healthy ones. Hmmm, could he be heavily invested in these Aussie oil companies????

Summary: he Hamptons Diet : Lose Weight Quickly and Safely with the D
Review: I'm a tried and true veteran dieter (just ask my husband). This diet is effortless because the recipes are so wonderful. This way of eating can easily become one's lfestyle. Concerning the price of MacNut Oil: Yes it is expensive, but I only use a 1-2 tablespoons/day and it is delicious. I pick the recipes that are affordable for our family. Many of the food such as ground chuck, chicken breast, and eggs are foods we normally eat. What's wonderful about this book is that the recipes make these foods taste amazing. I love this book. It's is easy to read. This will be a dietary lifestyle for me and my family. THANK YOU Dr. Pescatore!!

Summary: NO MORE MUNCHING OFF A TREE
Review: Other diets have proven to be most futile. The Hamptons diet, i think, owes most of its success to the plethora of healthy foods that the person is allowed to eat; whereas, in other diets the monotony is excrutiating and makes you wonder if you should just go outside, place yourself beneath the tree, and start munching on the leaves. It seems to be that with all other diets, that would be the preferable choice. I had great success with Dr. Pescatore's diet. I've lost 17 pounds in 3 weeks...so give it a try!!!

Summary: A diet that makes sense
Review: The best part about The Hamptons Diet is that it's more that a weight loss plan. Dr. Pescatore's plan incorporates foods that are nutritious and healhty, but that also have healing qualities. This is not only about losing weight, but about living a healthy life.
Since I started eating "the Hamptons way" I've not only seen a difference in my waistline, but I've also noticed that my skin looks better, I have more energy, and even sleep better! Combined with my fitness routine, The Hamptons Diet is what I've been looking for.
The diet is easy to follow and the recipes are delicious!

Summary: A great way to eat (live)
Review: The Hamptons Diet takes all the guess work out of dieting. The cornerstone of this mediterranean-diet spin-off is whole, fresh, organic food. No processed foods, no simple carbs, no hydrogenated fats. Simple, back to basics stuff. The first couple of days were hard, because my system was so used to unwholesome foods. Now, though, I feel refreshed and clean. The macadamia nut oil runs a little on the pricey side, but more affordable alternatives (like olive, almond, and avocado oil) are available. I highly recommend this diet to anyone who wants to eat the right way.

Summary: A balanced low-carb plan for life
Review: The latest offering from this former Medical Director of the Atkins Center is his best work yet - from both a reading standpoint and with the viewpoint of the average dieter (in other words, with a realistic assessment of what the average person is and is not willing to do on a long-term basis) considered.

The Hamptons Diet focuses on controlling the number and quality of carbs eaten while eating the right types of food and fat. This book is much lighter on the actual science (the part that goes right over most reader?s heads anyway) and a lot heavier on the simply explained How-To?s (the part the average reader benefits from the most.)

The Hamptons Diet introduces several new food pyramids, instead of just turning the Standard USDA food pyramid upside-down. This strategy will help you to make wise food choices from each food category while not making you feel hopeless about *never* again eating [whatever your favorite is]. For each of the food groups, there is a separate pyramid that presents the basic choices in levels of desirability - in other words, choices can be made that are always desirable and preferred over all others, even if the other choices are not actually prohibited, per se. In the protein pyramid, processed and fried meats are not actually prohibited, but they are undesirable in comparison to the other choices, so they appear up at the peak of the pyramid, with a recommendation to limit their consumption. There are separate pyramids for vegetables, grains, fruit and sugars, fats and oils. Whole grains and legumes are allowed on the Hamptons Diet, in varying amounts depending on your individual needs/progress.

I can definitely see myself sticking to this one for the rest of my life, and I find myself becoming quite fond of the taste of mac-nut oil!

Dr. Pescatore explains clearly in the Hamptons Diet that where he differs from Dr. Atkins is in the amount and type of fats he recommends, not the basic principles. The Hamptons Diet prescribes the regular use of macadamia nut oil as the sole added fat, in place of all other choices. Because macadamia nut oil contains equally balanced omega-3 and omega-6 fats and is also the richest in monounsaturated omega-9 fats with a high smoke-point, he says it is by far the healthiest choice for everyone.

I am sure you are wondering about the differences between this plan and the South Beach Diet, given the similarity in their names and the timing of their publication. In this low-carber's opinion, the Hamptons Diet is far preferable. I base this opinion on the fact that while dairy products are not encouraged in large amounts on the Hamptons Diet, you may still choose to eat the less processed, full-fat, pure forms of these foods when you do choose to eat dairy. South Beach encourages liquid margarine substitutes in spite of warnings against hydrogenated and trans-fatty acids, and also encourages non-fat or low-fat dairy substitutes, in spite of the fact that the lower-fat versions of these foods consist mostly of chemicals.

One of Dr. Pescatore?s strongest consistent messages over the years, a message for which he has earned my utmost respect, is that we should ALL be eating REAL FOOD - the less processed, and the less manipulated, the better. He warns to never eat trans-fats, margarine, hydrogenated fats, or - this will be surprising to some - canola oil (completely man-made, and highly refined.) He also discourages the use of grapeseed oil.
Dr. Pescatore refers specifically to protein shakes, bars, and most commercially produced low-carb snack foods as ?crutches?. He states unequivocally that there is no such thing as a ?net? carbohydrate, and while still encouraging high fiber foods, says that the only number that counts on any label is the official total carb count. (Talk about taking a stand - hear, hear! for the complete lack of potential confusion in this message! HOW REFRESHING IS THAT.)

Dr. P also encourages organic foods, while recognizing that not everyone will be able to afford to eat organically all the time, including himself. He recommends if you can only afford to eat one organic food on a regular basis, to make it eggs. Organically-raised eggs tend to have a perfect 1 to 1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats, while the omega-6 fats (the ones we tend to get too many of) in commercial eggs can appear in a ratio of as great as 19 to 1!

It appears that even if his body is in the Hamptons most of the time these days, Dr. P's wallet and sensibilities have remained firmly in middle America. That is just one of the reasons that I recommend that you RUN - Don't Walk - and get your own copy of the Hamptons Diet.

HAMPTONS DIET SUMMARY:
- Encourages use of Australian macadamia nut oil in place of all other added oils and fats
- Encourages organic foods and discourages all highly processed foods
- Restricts total carb intake according to weight loss or maintenance phase, with no truly forbidden foods
- Introduces a whole new set of new food pyramids to help dieters make wise choices from each food category
- Encourages moderate alcohol consumption
