Summary: An Insightful and Comforting Book
Review: According to author Doreen Virtue, Crystal Children are the new generation that has come to the Earth plane after the Indigo children. They are approximately ages newborn to age 5, although some members of the first wave of Crystal children are as old as 7. These kids are like Indigos--highly psychic and sensitive--but without the dark edge and the anger energy.Crystal Children have auras that are bright, radiant, and opalescent--they seem to glow from the inside. They talk about distant galaxies, past lives, and have profound insights about love and peace. Virtue details quite a few patterns with Crystal Children, including their affinity for plants, trees, rocks, and the elderly. She also noticed that not only were the Crystal Children highly spiritually sensitive, but so were their parents. She believes that the souls of Crystals were obviously selecting moms and dads who could raise them in a spiritually nurturning environment. Also common among Crystals are their intense, wide-eyed stare. When their eyes lock onto yours, it's as if a high-level being is scanning you. One thing that I found especially encouraging about this book is the author's critique of labelling children autistic. Many Crystals are labelled autistic, but there are glaring differences. Autistics don't notice others--they are in their own world. Crystals, although often late-talkers, are usually very loving, cuddling, and social. Virtue writes: "Does speaking or reading later than expected warrant such a serious diagnosis? Why not call these sensitive children 'late-talkers' instead of pathologizing them with psychiatric diagnoses and making them feel ashamed of themselves? Hundreds of parents around the globe have submitted stories for this book, telling about their Crystal Children who 'took their sweet time' to begin speaking. Perhaps instead of labeling this phenomenon 'an epidemic of autism', as the media and medical establishment has done, we should examine it for indications of humankind's evolution. Who knows--maybe we don't need speaking anymore!" If you're thinking "Well, the author is probably one of those New Age flakes that has no clue about psychology. Of course she'd think it was some cosmic evolution instead of a very real disability!", I would answer that Virtue has a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in counseling psychology. This information was especially comforting to me as a mom, because my son was diagnosed with autism/PDD-NOS in 2001. Yet, he defies traditional autistic behaviors--but fits the Crystal Children descriptions 100%. The Crystal Children covers many issues that affect these special kids, including healing abilities, connections to nature, eating habits, and so on. Also included in this helpful book are interviews with the Crystal Children themselves, as well as their parents and teachers. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, teacher, relative, or an individual interested in bringing healing to the planet, Virtue's book points the way to help keep these Crystal Children happy and healthy, and how to avoid the pitfalls that could spoil their precious gifts. I highly recommend this book for these reasons--and for the encouragement, instruction and peace of mind this information can bring to parents and educators.

Summary: Mixed blessing at best.
Review: At best, this book (along with the "indigo children"/"crystal children" line of thought in general) could contribute to the reconsideration of what is generally considered a set of autistic-spectrum and related disorders (such as ADD/ADHD). Such a reconsideration could have a definite positive impact, leading us to consider the benefits rather than the inconveniences of a plurality of cognitive styles.
However, these benefits would require a clear, systematic and universally applicable understanding of the mental and emotional dynamics involved. Instead, this work -- like others of the general group -- seeks to impose a single conceptual framework on a wide range of individual experiences. That this conceptual framework (ironically, given the set of individuals to whom it is applied) not only offers a chillingly homogenized and spiritually sterile view of the human population, but displays a shockingly Eurocentric worldview. Moving away from the current poorly-supported clinical approach to people (children especially) with divergent cognitive processing styles may be a good thing; replacing it with an effectively unsupported quasi-religious system of assertions and arbitrary conceptual structures is not.

Summary: Not enough substance
Review: I was really disappointed with this book. A very large amount of the text is dedicated to quotes from parents, no other real substance. Every parent thinks their child is special and gifted, this book simply indulged the bragging rights of these parents.
I also found that many of the descriptions of the children simply matched well known behaviors for the relevant age group. Having third party evaluations, instead of the parents, would have been more useful.

Review: The CRYSTAL CHILDREN by Dr. Doreen Virtue is a fascinating look at the "next generation" of children coming to earth. Preceded by the Indigo Children, these Crystal children are pretty special and amazing, according to the first-hand accounts related by the parents and grandparents. Born totally psychic, sensitive, compassionate, empathic, loving, and kind, these children are able to constantly communicate with the angles and spirits around them, as well as the nature spirits. Again, the true stories presented in the book will astound you. Not all the children will present with all the abilities as related in the book, but clearly, most have many special and healing abilities. Filled with the utmost love and compassion, I do believe, as Dr. Virtue believes, these children are here to spread love, truth and compassion. I felt that the book was a bit repetitive at times, which was not necessary, and I also found the first hand accounts of these children just fascinating. The book is a very quick read, as I did not want to put this book down, due to the amazing subject matter. While reading this book, I realized that several children I know are presenting with many of the attributes listed. Dr. Virtue also made sure to drive the point home that these children talk later in life, that they are NOT autistic, as society wants to put a "label" on them, but rather, they are observing and will talk when they are ready and usually in complete sentences. I also believe that it takes very aware and in-tune parents as well to raise these children. Most parents also relate that even though their children speak later in life, they have no trouble whatsoever in understanding them - telepathic communication. Lovely, wonderful book - highly recommend it for those parents and teachers, whose lives are blessed by these special angels - just overlook the repetitiveness!

Summary: Awesome and Informative
Review: This book accurately describes my 3 year old grandson. I now understand that he's part of a new wave of children incarnating on earth. He's already shown many gifts he possesses and I will help nurture his gifts so he doesn't forget who he is. I highly recommend this book for all parents of the Crystal Children generation.
