Rating: Summary: Lots of information packed into this book, Review: Rebecca Rupp has tons of information packed in the pages of this book for every subject and every age group. She uses personal examples from her family to help emphasize the fact that every child learns differently, and her reviews of the resources in this book are based on what would work for which type of child and why.
The only thing that was really missing in her book was resources from the internet, which I suppose can be difficult to include in a book since websites are constantly being added, deleted, and updated. I've found so many worksheets, craft ideas, and unit studies online that I hardly ever refer to this book. However, my children are young and I imagine that I will need more curriculum choices as they grow older, so I am grateful to have this book on my shelf.
And never underestimate your local support group! My children learn so much just from activities sponsored by our homeschool group. The clubs and field trips are much more valuable than anything that could come from a book. And other parents are alway eager to share what works for them.
Rating: Summary: The one to buy Review: There are many great books for homeschoolers, but if you are to buy just one - this is the one to buy. The amount of information will prepare you for virtually all units of study and Rupp's homeschool journal entries will energize and excite you!
Rating: Summary: Becky Rupp has done it again! Review: There are so many homeschooling resources today a family can spend far too much time - and money - considering all of them. Becky Rupp has been collecting information on these resources for years, and she presents the best collection in the pages of this book. The book is pricey but it's big - and will surely save its reader the price and more when she goes shopping!
Rating: Summary: The BEST resource book I have found!!! Review: This book has it all. Books, websites, multimedia, magazines, etc. listed with descriptions and often with how the material was used by their family. It is filled with excellent ideas!
Rating: Summary: inspirational book Review: This book is a wonderful resource. Although I am not a homeschooling parent (this book is making me reconsider my choice, however), this book gives me plenty of ideas for activities for after school hours. The best part of the book I found the excerpts from Ms. Rupp's home schooling journal over the years. I hope she will publish her journal one day. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Not just for homeschoolers! Review: This book is wonderful! It has hundreds of themes, which provide information about books, software, activities, videos, and websites. (In addition to curriculum suggestions in Math, Language Arts, Life Skills, etc.) I'm using this to supplement my son's private school education, and it's been so useful. My seven year old son has loved all the books I've read which were suggested in this book. He often wakes up the next morning thinking about them and asking me questions!!!
Rating: Summary: The definite all-you'll-ever-need homelearning sourcebook Review: This exhaustive and comprehensive sourcebook provides parents and teachers with information on all the resources they need to plan a well-balanced curriculum for the home or classroom, from preschool through highschool. The Complete Home Learning Sourcebook not only covers basic academic subjects--the three Rs-- but also addresses interests that are off the beaten path of public school curricula, such as paleontology or meteorology. Thorough and up-to-date, this invaluable resource reviews ALL possible learning tools: • Books • Videos • Magazines • Timelines • Activity books • Boardgames • CD-ROMs • Educational web-sites Arranged by subject, including Philosophy, Life Skills and Electronic Media, the sourcebook's organization and succinct and insightful entries make it a breeze to use. Icons next to the entries denote the format and age group of each resource. Whether readers are looking for the best way to explain relativity or Egyptian mummification, The Complete Home Learning Sourcebook opens the door to a whole new universe for teaching and learning.
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource, but not for Christian homeschoolers Review: This is an excellent resource guide, full of more information than I could imagine anyone ever needing! I was disappoointed, however, with some obvious omissions of Christian curriculums and suppliers. In addition, her attitude toward the few she did mention was, to say the least, condescending. I would not recommend this book to Christian homeschoolers looking for resources with a biblical perspective.
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource but... Review: This is the most comprehensive book I've found yet. I have lent it out to others both friends and educators. But..Many of the internet resource webpages have been discontinued so it is often time consuming to research which ones still exist before providing those resources to my children ages 9 and 16 yrs. I mark in the book if it can be used and cross out which ones are outdated. Still well worth the price!
Rating: Summary: Sent from heaven! Review: What can I say that has not already been said? This book has helped me find books, software and sites to aid in our studies on various topics. This is a thick, deeply developed book that really is a must have for homeschoolers.
