Summary: A child is usually born
Review: Technically most of the babies were photographed during an amniocentesis. Some of the babies were taken from the Women's Clinic in Göteborg, but to say that you are buying a book full of dead babies simply is not true. Enjoy the book the pictures are incredible and it does make the perfect gift for mothers to be!

Summary: A Child is (NOT) Born
Review: The cruel truth about this book is that it is NOT a chronicle of new life, just beginning, but the horrific depiction of life cut tragically short. The photographer confirmed years ago these photographs were taken of aborted fetuses, and was surprised anyone assumed otherwise. The book does a good job of impressing us with the beauty and wonder of developing babies in the womb, but only if we ignore the reality of what we're looking at: the bodies of children outside the womb, children never born.

Summary: Awesome Photos and Informative Text!
Review: The excellent color photos in this book are no less than breathtaking! The information is extremely helpful, not only to those who are already pregnant, but also to those who are trying to conceive. After reading this book you will have an more than a wonderment at the absolute miracle of conception and birth. If you thought you knew it all or had seen it all, surprise yourself by reading this book! I'm recommending it to all my friends!

Summary: it's even more of a miracle than you can imagine
Review: the miracle of birth is absolutely amazing. these photos on such a small scale and the detail and process of procreation is so beautiful and delicate and fascinating i can't stop looking at it. and as i look at these pictures and read the accompanying explainations, i feel much the way i did as i first got the concept of stars, black holes, planets, solar systems, space travel, time, individuality, ufo's, it brings the wonder and the inspiration right back! it's absolutely mind boggling. the level of choreography neccessary for all of the processes of life to take place is stupendous. these tiny single celled objects (egg and sperm) and their purposefulness, their intelligence, the way in which they communicate. these photos and the process of life is more of a miracle than any invention or theory or thing created by man. these processes are the foundation for everything we do! it is both simple and mind bogglingly complex. there is truly a god, or something greater than that at work. a real steal at any price but an absolute bargain at $20.

Summary: A book to have - even 25 years later!
Review: The original version of this 'have-to-have' book saw us through the birth of my two sons - now in their mid-20s, and provided them with knowledge as they grew older. With a new wife and a new baby on the way I searched the web for over three hours trying desperately to recall the name of the book - my joy is now complete at finding this new version! It's under my arm as I head for the flight to Kenya and will keep me, new Mum, and her 8-year old in raptures for the next 6 months. Truly one of the all-time must-have-in-my-library books. Buy many and give 'em all away (except one)!

Summary: Fantastic Photography!
Review: The photos in this book are absolutly amazing! There is an abundance of information on fetal develpement. I would suggest this book to anyone who is pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant. My only complaint is that there is a gap in the photos of gestational develpement where there are no pictures for a few months to compare you own baby with.

Summary: This is an incredible book!
Review: The photos in this book are extraordinary.
The text is excellent, technical yet easy to understand.
If you weren't totally in awe of the miracle of nature, creation, birth before you absolutely will be after reading this amazing book.

Summary: Very good, a bit graphic though
Review: This book has very fascinating pictures and text. That being said, I have to say that I am surprised after reading reviews that people shared this book with their children. While the early pictures would be fine to share with kids, the later pictures (of childbirth and the bloody placenta) seem to be a bit graphic for kids. My husband and I are not prudes, but we were both a little surprised to see some nude pictures (one of a woman showering, another of a woman bathing) that seemed a bit out of place. Perhaps it is only because we are not so used to seeing nudity here in the United States. I also have the book "From Conception to Birth" and I think I prefer that one to this. I think that one would be a better one to share with children. Also, the format of that book is a bit nicer, it is easier to find what stage you are at in the pregnancy and which pictures correspond. Also, it shows the actual size of the embryo as it grows, which I love. I found myself referring to that book much more than this one. This book is the one to refer to if you want to see pictures of actual childbirth though. I would recommend owning both, as they are both excellent books.

Summary: The pictures in this book are simply AMAZING.
Review: This book is a must-have for any couple expecting a baby. Rather than 'telling' you how your baby is devloping from month to month, this book SHOWS you, in detailed color pictures, from cell development to birth. This was a really fun book to look through with my husband, who had never seen any 'real' pictures or descriptions of what giving birth entails. Highly recommended!
