Summary: I beg to differ
Review: I have noticed that ADD/ADHD books tend to be written with lots of subject headings and illustrations. They feel "crowded" to read. Is this for the ADD/ADHD clients,or because that's how the author thinks? In either case, Ms. Solden, for me, has written a book I can hardly read. All the right info is there and it's presented thoroughly, yet I can't get past the too-crowded layout, starting with the front cover, the simplistic and even patronising (or childish) illustrations and charts, and the reiterations. Mis-spellings, sub-par grammar, and overuse of quotation marks made the text cluttered for me. HOWEVER, her moderately feminist perspective and analysis of women's unique ADD issues is on target. I just wish i could read it... <sigh> Perhaps she'll put out another edition which is better organized and has NO amateurish clip art? Her message deserves that. I'll get it out one...more....time and try again.

Summary: an ADDult
Review: I just got this book yesterday and I'm up to Chapter 6! I was just recently diagnosed with ADD and it seems every page of this book is describing some aspect of my life! I can't wait to read the next page, the next chapter, the next section. I'm hoping to also be able to help my teenage son who also has ADD. Thank you Sari for helping me know that I am definately not alone!

Summary: A good book with great points
Review: I only gave this book 4 stars because it isn't for everyone, IF you already know about your disorder and why you do the things you do I would not recomend it. Although it is great for people who need to know more about ADD without Hyperactivity and I think it is wonderful that is is being addressed since I have that particular ADD I think it is great for my husband to read or my family so they can better understand me. The problem is is that I know my problems I was seeking help and didn't find it just another book telling me whats wrong with me and not how I can better myself. Although the book made great points it was very hard to follow and I skipped around a LOT because there was nothing to hold my interest and for a book FOR people with this disorder it seems to be more readble for someone without it.

Summary: A Book that Reassures and Guides
Review: I picked this book up while cruising the bookstore for books on ADD, which both my son and I have. When I started reading, I had to put it down and go get a pencil. I underlined everything that was me--the book ended up looking like a flat zebra. In spite of myself I tend to feel ashamed, as though I have bad character, so to have a book addressed specifically to how ADD would look in a woman was wonderful. It isn't just that many women experience it differently than men, but also that the kinds of situations we find ourselves in are different. (Housecleaning!!!!!Nurturing!!!) Only down side, only not really, was that I had my then fiance, a psychologist, read it. He gave it back and said grumpily "this says you have no intention of changing." He's history now and I'm married to a lovely man who is more disorganized than I am.

Summary: Read it for a friend or relative. Now I understand Mom.
Review: I read to book at the request of a good friend diagnosed with ADD. I was skeptical at first, but the book clearly outlines the problems without being sensationalistic or overly sympathic. I can see that I need to change my behavior. In some ways I was putting my friend in an untenable situation.

Summary: Too much disability politics, not much practical advise
Review: I really wanted to find a good book that dealt with ADD without heperactivity. And Sari Solden does do that. But I found little practical, everyday ideas on how to cope better, but an awful lot of politics. Disability politics, feminist politics. I've got no interest in defining myself as an opressed person, I just want to find my keys, do better at work, make some things just a little easier for me and my very patient family. It's not nice to say, but I found this book to be a little whiny. ADD is certainly difficult, and for some much more difficult than others. But others in the world are also having a hard time. I felt like this book was out of proportion, too muuch anger, to much angst (and dare I say this) not enough can-do encouragement.

Summary: Very good...very liberating
Review: I thought there was a lot of practical knowledge in this book as well as a lot of *liberating* material regarging how to live *with* and even embrace your ADD as opposed to hiding it and fighting it. I think this book is excellent for woman with ADD as well as therapists (i bought a copy for my psyciatrist)...teachers and parents of girls. This book is sensitive to the special needs of woman living in a world that expects them to be organized home-makers...when thier minds and bodies cant quite manage it. I found good help with that as well as new ways to look at things...new ways to attempt things i had been stalled on...and new ways to look at my self...with more love and less frustration. This book is a keeper (after i passed it on to all my friends!)

Summary: an ADDult
Review: I was soooooooooo relieved after i read this book,as I am not the hyper type(although I talk a lot-but I am not jumping around -fidgeting or worse daydreaming when I have to sit still)
A lot of is highlighted in yellow and I lended it to the ADD psy(he heard about but did not have the opportunity to read, well this could have save both of us a lot of time,anyway...)
It was like a thriller I spend 3 nights and days reading and reading.I highly recommend it along with "ADD in women" by nadeau, this one is more recent and quote a lot from it.
