Rating: Summary: Great to share with Family Members Review: As someone struggling with Bipolar Disorder for the past three years, I must say the hardest struggle is getting those around me to understand what I'm going through. While they are supportive - they just don't really "get it". This is a book that's been passed to my husband, my mother, my father, and some other relatives as I try to help them understand the illness so they can be even more supportive. This book really fills the need for information they have. Much recommended!!
Rating: Summary: Simple survival guide Review: David J. Miklowitz brings clear, easy-to-follow plans to this guide to everything about bipolar illness. His definitions are simple and well-illustrated with real scenarios from sufferers of bipolar illness. The book is a worthwhile purchase just for the examples of mood diary cards, but it is full of all sorts of other practical advice in plain language. It is the best, most comprehensive guide I have found. Miklowittz refers to the well-known scientific and clinical studies without bogging down the text, a common problem with even the most well-respected authors of books about bipolar disorder.

And so much more. The book is full of helpful life management tips, with easy to use charts for getting a handle on your life when it tips out of conrol. This book is an informative, reassuring "Must Buy"!

Rating: Summary: Absolutely the Best Bipolar Literature I Have Read Review: Having self-diagnosed my illness of Bipolar I during nursing school in 1980, I have read numerous articles and books on the illness. In my opinion, it is written with a style that I find it difficult to believe that the author is not bipolar himself. It is extremely rare to find helpful self-management tools, advice and knowledge base, coupled with the spirit of the illness, from an individual who has not lived it...I am currently working on a manuscript whereby the focus is on the unaccepting health care professionals who have discovered a professional registered nurse's bipolar diagnosis. This author will be cited with the hope of becoming a change agent through educating the target audience of healthcare professionals. Having been stable most of my adult life, I recommend this book to those who meet the challenges of the illness as well as their friends and families. It is not a book that is merely read, but one that is studied closely and referred back to on occasion. Never lose hope!

Rating: Summary: Review from Missouri Review: I checked this book out from the library first before ordering it here at amazon - I read in all within a couple of days - it was so informaitive I could not put it down. With all the research that I have done I realize that there is different degrees of bipolar/manic dpression and when I was first diagnoised after years of being diagnoised as having depression it was a big change for me. Then my new doctor was not really sure. So I got this book and after reading it, it finally made me sure of the original diagnosis. Although my case may be mild in some ways compared to others some of it it is not and I can definitely see myself in this book and it explains my whole entire life to me!! Thanks to this author and I look forward to a future when they will find out the cause and possible cure for this brain disorder. I found this book very informative - and thourough... it really gave so much information that I have been looking for in a well put together format. THANKS!
