Summary: Great Book!
Review: This was the first book we read that actually offered practical guidelines (besides 'just let them cry it out')- and explained why the techniques worked. We started getting much more sleep within days - and now our daughter takes great naps, goes to bed at 7pm each night and (usually) sleeps through the night. A must read for any tired parent.

Summary: Yaaaaaaaaaaay!
Review: I was at my wit's end, desperate to find a solution to my 7 month-old's sleep habits. We were still waking up 2, 3 times a night. After one distinctly hellish night, I peeled my eyes open, dragged myself to the computer and I bought this book. I read it cover to cover, took solace in it during our son's few crying bouts, and now, two weeks later, our little boy is sleeping through the night: 9PM - 6AM. YAAAAAAAY! The book is a fast, easy read, with reasonable, actionable, humane suggestions. Thank goodness! Every new parent should have it.

Summary: Thanks God I read this book
Review: In just one week We were "SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT". We followed this book's steps on our 8-month baby. She is 13 month old now, and she is still naping and sleeping well.

Summary: it works and we are sleeping again
Review: i know the tactics sound harsh to some, but with our child it only took four days for this method to work. we have yet to try it for naps, but for night time sleeping, our daugther now tells us when she is ready for sleep. we were missing all the signs before and she was getting overtired. since she was three months old (and after we read this book) she has been sleeping 10 hour nights! this book was a god-send.

Summary: Solid, practical advice for parents
Review: This is a great book that offers practical advice for parents who want to get their baby on a regular sleeping schedule. My baby had been sleeping in bed with my husband and me while I was on maternity leave. I loved it, but I never got a good night's sleep. When I returned to work 3 months later, I knew we had to get her to sleep in her own bed. Dr. Mindell is great because she approaches the crying aspect in very practical terms--your baby is crying because she is tired and she can't put herself to sleep. The first few nights were rough, but I kept telling myself that she had to learn to fall asleep on her own--she would never do that if we kept her in our bed. Within two weeks she was waking up once or twice a night. One month later she is sleeping through the night. I have a six year old niece who slept with her parents until she was a toddler, and to this day, she can't fall asleep on her own in her own bed. I did not want that for my child. Thanks to this book, that won't be an issue.

Summary: Not baby friendly advice!
Review: I was so offended when I read this book. The author kept referring to infants who don't sleep through the night as having "sleep problems", and to eliminate night-time nursings at 3 months! She also advocates letting your child cry, even if they vomit from being so upset, and even then she says you should refrain from picking them up or comforting them. How can that be considered baby-friendly advice? I thought it was disgusting and appalling. She referrs to infants as being pathetic and using it to their advantage to get what they want. There are so many other great books out there if you are frustrated about night waking. "Nighttime Parenting" by Dr. William Sears is a much better book that not only helps you find solutions, but has much more accurate information about the needs of infants, toddlers and older children.

Summary: I never thought it would work..............but it did!
Review: We were at our breaking point! We dreaded bedtime and were struggling with several wakeups a night. We didn't think anything could help us. On top of it all, as working parents, our careers and our relationship were suffering. At 4:30am, I logged onto Amazon.com and ordered many different books on how to get your child to sleep. I was desperate! This book was our saviour! To my amazement, most of her sleep problems were our fault. We had never let her fall asleep on her own and we were putting her to bed way to late. Dr. Mindell gave us the tools we needed to make it work. Although the first few nights were very tough, we noticed improvement in just a week. After two weeks, she started sleeping through the night. She even takes naps during the day! The greatest advice from Dr. Mindell was to be your childs' timekeeper. Once you follow the advice, I think most parents will see improvement. I highly recommend this book if your child is over 6 months and is not sleeping well. You will be amazed just how happy your child and yourself will be after sleeping through the night!

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: When my friend told me to buy this book, I was extremely skeptical. Our 8-month-old had never slept through the night and I couldn't imagine he ever would. This book though gave me the confidence to try sleep training and the understanding of how important it was for our son. It is now 6 weeks later and I recommend this book to everyone I know. Our life has changed -- my husband and I now get our sleep and our son is happier than he ever was. Thank you, Dr. Mindell.

Summary: A MUST baby/shower gift
Review: Our pediatrician recommended this book when our oldest was 22 months and we were expecting our second. We have read this book cover-to-cover numerous times. Before our second arrived, our first was sleeping like a charm and now our second has never had a sleep problem. All expectant parents should read this book. It will help your baby develop good sleep habits right from the beginning and you'll never have a problem. We now buy it as a gift for everyone having a baby. We cannot say enough good things about it.

Summary: Some great tips; some bad advice!
Review: After reading the reviews posted here, I really thought this book would help me alot with my 4 1/2 month old son. I was disappointed. Although the book does offer alot of information about infant/toddler sleep habits/patterns and disorders, I feel it gives some poor advice to parents of infants. It strongly urges to stop all nighttime feedings when your child is only 3 months old! I (and my pediatrician) feel this is much too young! Although I agree that nursing your child to sleep may cause sleep problems, denying a hungry child food is not the answer! I also found the comments regarding infants being "pathetic" and able to use this to their advantage somewhat disturbing. Does the author honestly think an infant is plotting against its parents by using a "pathetic" look? I don't think so. So, if you want a really good book about sleep patterns, and sleep disorders, this is it. As far as getting your child to sleep, I wouldn't recommend it.
