Rating: Summary: I can't recommend this book enough... Review: to friends who have babies that don't sleep through the night. I only wish that I had found this book earlier than I had. My husband and I read the book in one night when Marisa was about three months old. It was heart wrenching to listen to her cry the first few nights, but the method does work. In a couple of weeks she was sleeping through the night. It took us a little longer than the 3-4 nights that the book suggests only because we had a few upsets in the household, but we got her back on track the next night without any problems. At her 4 month doctor's visit, her dr. couldn't believe it when she asked how Marisa was sleeping and I told her that she was sleeping through the night for the past month. Of course, I had to mention the wonderful book by Dr. Mindell.Mom and Dad are much happier with sleeping until 7 in the morning and we're all a lot less crankier. You never quite grasp how much you miss sleep until you actually get a decent night and with this book you will.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: Our son Riley, ten months old, had not learned to sleep through the night because he had been sick (on and off) for most of his ten months. When he was well, we continued to rock and pat him to sleep. He was getting up two to three times per night and did not nap well. This book was terrific. It gave us ideas on how to sleep train him and what to do after vacations or illnesses. Within four nights, Riley was sleeping through the night and taking better naps. Although it was hard to let him cry, he has learned to settle down within ten minutes and go to sleep. I'd recommend it to any parent who is experiencing night wakings and poor naps. It worked for us!
Rating: Summary: Excellent source of solutions! Review: Although I was skeptical at first (our daughter is 19 months old), these techniques really worked for us. My daughter was not going to bed each night asleep, but she was drowsy because I was rocking her in the dark. She had previousy been sleeping through the night, but a family vacation ruined it. The book taught us that cuddle time is ok, but even though she was awake when she went to bed, she woke up at night really needing that extra touch I had been providing. The first night we read a book and cuddled with the light on, and I put her in bed awake. I thought she would really cry, but she only whimpered for a few moments. She then slept 9 hours straight. Since then (3 nights), she has not awakened at all at night and is sleeping 8-9 hours each night. The book also gave us lots of ideas on how to deal with future vacations and other sleep pattern disruptions.
Rating: Summary: The Best Baby Gift Ever Review: This book changed our lives. It is so amazing that I now give it to every one of my friends as a baby shower gift. Our 7 month old daughter was still breastfeeding every 2 hours day and night. I almost had a nervous breakdown I was so exhausted. Our pediatrician told us that there was no physical reason that she should be waking and eating that much. I found this book (I truly believe that God sent it to me) and finally knew that it was time to help our baby learn sleep habits. I could never bring myself to use all of the BabyWise book methods; they just seemed so harsh and cruel. However, this book lays it all out with the reasonings behind all of the suggestions, and lets you know that if you can't let your baby cry for 5 full minutes, it's OKAY to go check on her after only 2 minutes. The main thing is to just make sure you keep lengthening the time intervals. The very first night we tried the methods in this book, our daughter cried a total of 55 minutes (which was extremely heartbreaking). However, she SLEPT THE REST OF THE NIGHT and woke up HAPPY -- something she had never done! The next night I thought would be worse, but she only cried 30 minutes before putting herself to sleep. By the third night, it was less than 10 minutes. Her naps also increased and she became a much happier baby. She is now 2 and a half years old and still sleeps better than most of her friends. This book is a miracle and a must have for all parents!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book for Every Sleep Deprived Parent! Review: This book is very easy to read, and the content is excellent. There are simple step by step instructions on how to go about the process of getting your child to sleep through the night. The author gives detailed explanations of the psychology behind the techniques advised. We used the information with our 6 week old son, and after only 3 days, he is falling asleep on his own. We are finally able to get a little rest as a result of this book! We would highly reccommend this book to all sleep deprived parents in desperate need of a little shut-eye!
Rating: Summary: Get it, do it, get it over-with, and SLEEP! Review: This is a great book. I have loaned it out so many times, and it has worked for everyone. It's not as hard as you think to get your baby to sleep. I did one of my children's training at 12 weeks, and the other at 7 weeeks. It's all over in 3 days or less. Everyone is happy, especially the rested Mama. It's not cruel to let the baby cry a little, it's cruel to NOT do it and let him ruin one more day with night wakings and cranky days. THis book has a "support" section, which you don't get in the other books, perhaps because they are all written by men. She helps by saying that the end is near and this is a huge favor you are doing your child. It's so true! Get it over with, and all of your friends will be in awe! Then you can loan them the book and you will all feel very smart. A great book.
Rating: Summary: Two night to sleeping good! Review: This book is not rocket science, but it does give you the tools to get your child in a good sleep habit. It also helps you to understand the cues that the baby is picking up by you rocking and rubbing and feeding. It may take a couple of nights, but stick with the program. Third night was right to sleep with barely a peep. She is strong willed, but now much happier with bedtime ritual. A great gift for your child! :-)
Rating: Summary: It works - but don't try it till you can stomach the crying! Review: The methods in this book are very sound and helpful, giving explicit instructions, and a lot of suggestions on what to do if certain situations arise. HOWEVER, although my husband and I are agreement about implementing the program, I was SICK TO MY STOMACH (I'm a first-time mom) the first few nights listening to my 11 wk old cry himself to sleep for 45 min - 1 hour. It did get easier and our baby responded in much the same way that the baby in the book's anecdote did. One week later, our son went to sleep without any tears. I couldn't have imagined putting my baby to bed wide awake with no tears. The book's method works - just be warned that you'll have to put up with some temporary crying and it could be very unpleasant! Don't attempt this method until you're fully prepared for what may happen the first 3-4 nights.
Rating: Summary: worth every penny Review: I purchased this book to learn how to teach our 3 month old how to go to sleep in his crib. I did not want to set a standard for rocking or nursing him to sleep. Very imformative book. It taught me a lot about my baby's needs. Although, nursing him when he woke in the middle of the night did not work for us. Our son was waking three to four times a night. We stopped the middle of the night feedings and within a few days he was sleeping for about 10 1/2 hours every night!
Rating: Summary: It's a miracle! Review: This book is wonderful. It first explains a child's sleep pattern and why some children don't sleep through the night then gives you ways to help your child learn to put herself back to sleep. It worked wonders for us. I am finally getting some sleep after only 1 week of using these techniques.
