Summary: Practical Solutions Are the "Key Words"
Review: Our grandson was diagnosed w/Aspergers and we immediately went to the internet to obtain information. I went to Amazon.com to try and find books on the subject. This book was the best book. It was though they knew Josh and his struggles. It was amazing. Groundwork had to be laid. We bought 3 of these books. The family kept two and we gave one to his school. We have also purchased other books for ourselves and for his school, but this book was an immediate buy. It explains so much. And, it has helped so much. It really is a book which needs to be given to your child's school. You have to buy at least two. Joshua still has his good days and his bad days, but everyone is going in the same direction now. We all feel that everyone is working as a team. This child is in first grade and he has a great chance. He has loving parents and a great support system, both at home with his relatives and at school. This book can help not only your family and relatives, but also teachers and professionals see that they are dealing with a loving child who wants to do the correct thing and with everyone's help, he will flourish.

Summary: Heading Melt Downs Off At the Pass
Review: Parents, educators and people on the autism/Asperger's spectrum will get a lot of mileage out of this excellent book. It is written in a plain, straight-forward style that clearly describes the behaviors that are often associated with a/A. I like the way the authors don't make light of meltdowns and explain what often triggers them. I also like the straight-forward direct approach they take in helping others cope with, and, in cowpoke parlance, head meltdowns off at the pass. This is a book that many will find helpful and power packed with invaluable information.

Summary: The best book I have ever read on Asperger Syndrome
Review: The authors really understand Asperger Syndrome. This book is designed to provide practical suggestions that can help children and youth with AS. Many books say they are practical. This is the only one that is!

Summary: great stress management advice
Review: The easy to understand and easy to implement strategies in this book are invaluable in helping my husband, myself and my child's teachers. Learning to identify triggers and possibly manage the episodes before they occur is crucial to anyone involved with children with Aspergers/Autism. I also highly recommend Indigo Dreams CD. The stories on this CD empower children to manage their own anxiety, frustrations and emotions by introducing children to easy to follow relaxation techniques. These 2 items together have changed our lives for the better and calmer. Every parent and educator of these special children should have the book and CD on hand.

Summary: There are lots of better options out there
Review: There are lots of better options out there that more accurately reflect the level and nature of the research available on tantrums, aggression, and behavior problems and how to deal with them. While I realize, from personal experience, that such issues are very hard to deal with and lots of people, particularly parents trying to figure out what is going on, need help with these issues this book presents some fairly basic material that is sound and lots of other ideas mixed in that from my experience can actually make things worse. Try Attwoods books first.

Summary: This book is excellent.
Review: This book is a MUST for parents whose offspring have recently received an AS diagnosis, regardless of the age of the offspring. Blessedly concise and accurate, this book is one that parents and professionals alike will have TIME to read and will understand, regardless of their educational level. I wish this book had existed when my daughter with AS was young. It would have been a godsend.

Summary: Straightforward and practical help
Review: This book is extremely helpful with practical, concise instructions for understanding and helping your child with Asperger Syndrome. I have loaned or given copies to every staff member working with my two sons who have AS. It has enabled us to set up a complete program that enables to them to be safe and to learn. It addresses the behaviour while not judging the child. It if were up to me it would be standard issue in every school. The only thing better than reading this book is to hear one of the authors, Brenda Smith Myles, speak in person. She truly understands our kids.
