Summary: Great book for ANYONE who wants to eat smarter!
Review: I found that by following this plan for the last two years with my husband, he went from 242 lbs. to 210, and I went from 125 lbs to 110. Of the two of us, my husband had the most benefit from the plan, and I was simply looking for a healthier way to eat. After following Fit for Life, your body becomes surprisingly (and naturally!) regular (in the bathroom department), and you get more energy. You also do get lots of teasing that you are a "health nut," but did cavepeople ever eat hamburgers, potato chips, and Breyer's Ice cream? I don't think so. But if you DO want to still continue eating those types of food in a "looser interpretation" of following the authors' plan, they advise you on the safest ways to eat "non-plan" foods.) BUT FIRST: Try the plan as the authors recommend for one month, and you'll be amazed at the great way your body will feel. Also: Your body is NOT deprived from not having meat or dairy. The book explains why your body is not capable of extracting nutritional benefits from those two types of foods, and it explains how an entire ARSENAL of other foods can give you the vitamins (remember those?) and the nutritional elements your body needs to function well. Great book!

Review: a better way to eat, look and feel. You will get excited about this book. I have enjoyed more energy, weight loss, and an all around feeling of success. I know now the truth is I am what I eat. And personally I don't want to be a fat, slow moving beast. Or so hi on sugar and caffeine I can't think straight. The truth is we can all be healthy, fit and trim, if.... we gain the proper knowledge from people who walk the walk. Harvey and Marylan Diamond bring so much logic and truth about the foods we eat as Fat Americans(look at the statistics, or just go to the local pool). They give us the knowledge to help us make a change if we are willing to change.

Summary: Highly recommend
Review: Previous to purchasing "Fit For life", I had read a number of negative reviews concerning the principles outlined within its pages. Much of the bad press came from noteworthy fitness buffs and mags, so I naturally assumed that Fit for life was indeed another trendy get -rich- fast diet book. That is, until I finally read it and began to apply the principles vigorously to my daily life. What a difference six months have made! My complexion is radiant, I am more shapely, and I have much more energy. Even my hair and nails are shinier and more beautiful. I now eat a mainly raw food diet high in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Although I do not always combine them properly- sometimes my fave breakfast is a hot bowl of steel cut oats, raisins, walnuts and flaxseed with skimmed milk- I enjoy a greatly enhanced quality of life thanks to the principles first discovered in the wonderful book. I have to admit that a few of their scientfic observations are a bit askew, but please do not let that cloud your heart on what is essentially, a terrific little book on improving your life and health.

Summary: Fit for life is an excellent book, definately a must!!!
Review: I have suffered with irritable bowel syndrome and experienced extreme pain for many years, until I was introduced to fit for life. For two years I followed the diet and somehow I kind of went off the track and am now suffering with IBS, I have been trying to locate this book for some time now as I lent mine out and it was never returned, I'm very relieved to have found it!!!!

Summary: Interesting and awakening!
Review: After having injured my both feet and one knee in the summer of -99 I decided that I had to do something about my overweigt. So I borrowed "Fit for life" from a friend. Having read the book, I must say "Well done!" I like it, because it was fresh and to the point. The best part of the book was that it let the reader understand that it wasn't a diet - but a change of living with the right kind of food in combination with exercise that would make a change in your weight. 1 + 1 is 2, right? Just the thougt of eating fruits for breakfast (in the amount YOU want) made me delirious. The books content really woke me up, thinking that I should eat more fruits and vegetables, instead of meat and potatoes in "a sort of" dangerous mix. I was so happy to find out that there is a better way of life. The recepies also seems good and easy to do. I'm defitely going by the "Fit for life" method.

Summary: Don't be fooled.... read this.
Review: I got halfway through the book and was very impressed... I overlooked the things that didn't sound right, because I wanted to believe it all. While it may have some value, before you invest too much energy in it make sure you read the reviews by doctors at the "health care reality check" website. hcrc.org. They start "This foolish diet book, which sold over one million copies, shows how a weight loss program founded on unscientific concepts can be a huge commercial success." Amazon will be doing it's customers a great dis-service if it does not publish this as it took me a great deal of time to find a credible, qualified reference that reviewed the book properly.

Summary: This has been a life changing book for me.
Review: I read this book in 1992. I was seriously overweight and very, very unhappy with my life. I mentioned this to a friend and she sent me a copy of Fit For Life. I was hurting enough to try this revolutionary way of life and found that not only was it an excellent way to lose weight, but it was relatively easy to do. I lost 90 pounds in 4 months and kept it off for years. Like I said, however this is a way of life and it is a permanent change. I changed my lifestyle again a couple of years ago, and today I suffer again. That is why I'm back looking for my old friend, Fit For Life again. Try it, get serious and stay that way, change your life. Trust me this book will deliver like no other can.

Summary: It changed my life
Review: When i picked this book up I was serving the Army in Korea,I was 26yrs. I was shocked to learn that I had been lied to by my parents and gov't about what was and was not healthy for your body. The diamond's showed me an alternative way of life that when practiced took 5" off my waist with a 25 pound loss. 6 years after reading FIT FOR LIFE I still have a red meatless diet, and practice many of the other great lessons. Thank you Mr.Diamond.

Summary: This book is a very sensible approach to weight loss.
Review: I have read this amazing book, but as usual I deviate from its teachings. I believe the book is a reference book for health and weight loss everyone should have in their library. However, I have a problem. After eating the fruits I tend to get very hungry. I have read a book called "The Carbohydrates Addict Diet", which indicates that a large consumption of fruit which is a carbohydrate, causes you to crave sweets and other carbohydrate filled foods or leaves you hungrier. Has anyone else experienced this problem??

Summary: fascinating lecture .... yet, it leaves questions.
Review: I have read this book back in 1995. I tried to adhere to the principles of the right food combination .Also with my excersise I have lost 12# in 2 months . I felt great about myself and my health. However, I have Questions.... I started having problems with acids. I was put on Zantac. I was wondering if it was because I overate on fruits ? In the book Harvey mentions that even acidic fruits are neutralized in the stomack and lose their acidicy. Is there any new reasearch on it? Also I have two more Q's. First how does Harvey feel about the sun exposure ... since it is a big issue nowadays. Also supplements. I've heard that he promotes them in his new cancer book. Please let me get in touch with the author regarding those issues. I remain a faithful believer...yet I ask for some updates......
