Summary: Grief of Spilt Milk and Lost Keys
Review: The grief of divorce and the grief of death are completely different. Hinting that they are similar is hurful to those that go through the pain.

I have a faith of an afterlife and would much rather have had my wife die. I would better savor the great memories of the past with a hope to see her again someday (however misguided if there is none).

Missing someone who loves you is DEATH. Your lover turning traitor and assassin is DIVORCE. These are very different griefs to overcome.

Can I also apply this book to the grief of a burned-down house (no insurance) and lost memoirs?

Summary: This book gave me my life back!!!!
Review: The Grief Recovery Handbook is the first book I picked up that actually gave me the specific guidelines necessary to move beyond the emotional "pain in my chest" after my father died. I was almost convinced that I would never feel happiness or joy again when I drove away from the cemetery the day we buried him. That lasted for almost two years. When I went through the process in this book, I realized many things about myself, as well as my relationship with my father, and I have put him to rest in peace and I have my life back. Thank you John, Frank, and Russell.

Summary: Simple, Straightforward and Profound
Review: The title words "action program" and "recovery" accurately depict what this book is all about. It is simple. It is straightforward. It is profound. We all experience loss. Loss of people, jobs, beliefs etc., are all common human experiences. What is not common, however, is how these losses specifically affect us. We each have our own ways of internalizing and coping. And, some of the ways we cope can weigh heavily on us for many years following the loss experience.

Friedman and James do a beautiful job of laying out a plan for identifying, understanding, and moving beyond the loss experiences that still weigh us down. They hold our hand and walk us through, step-by-step, a journey into the inner areas that we have previously avoided due to discomfort and lack of processing skills.

Taking their clear direction, pen in hand, I followed their suggested writing exercises to begin the journey. Upon completion, I learned things about myself that have had a deeply profound impact. Most important, I freed myself of unresolved emotional garbage that was clouding my ability to grow. To say that this is the most important book I have ever read is an understatement.

Summary: Practical gentle guide to heal a broken heart
Review: This book and these men have helped thousands of people heal wounds I never thought could be healed. The put a stop to the adage "time heals" by reminding us that time just passes and it's our action that heals. There is a way to get rid of the PAIN of a loss. I'm living proof.

Summary: An intelligent and refreshing look at grief.
Review: This book enlightens the reader about different situations that can cause grief. Who knew that positive things, like beginning a new job, might require some grieving? Yet it's true. Also, piled up grief can really affect your life, especially your relationships with other people. This book gives you the information that you need in order to identify your unresolved grief (you will also begin to recognize it in others), and gives you very creative and effective tools for healing. Really a revolutionary book.

Summary: To Move Through and Beyond Loss
Review: This book is easy to read. The authors recommend reasonable "homework" that guides the reader through his/her loss history. The entire process outlined in the book provides a crucial look at important relationships and includes exercises to help bring relationships "up-to-date". The Grief Recovery Handbook would be an excellent companion to a traditional grief support group. Readers should know that The Grief Recovery Institute, adminstered by the authors, is an excellent resource. Visit their Website at www.grief.net. I have seen this simple book help many people who are grieving even though their stories and circumstances are quite varied. The authors joined with a Child Psychologist to publish another excellent book entitled When Children Grieve.
