Summary: Educator Reviews Sensory Secrets
Review: I have worked with developmentally and physically impaired students for over 23 years. Catherine's book hits the target about the lack of movement and texture in our children's lives today - too much time in front of a computer or T.V. monitor - I agree!

When a student returns to my classroom after sensory motor therapy, it is as if a miracle has occurred. The child comes back focused, calm, and ready to receive information. Every educator, therapist and parent should have Sensory Secrets as a resource.

Summary: Wonderful - a common sense approach
Review: I highly recommend this book. It is in an easy to read format which makes it easy to understand. Parents and teachers with limited knowledge of Sensory Integration will find this book full of wonderful ideas and activities to use. Included is the Foundational Skills Inventory that can be used to easily indicate areas that may need further attention. Everyone young and old can benefit from the information in this book.

Summary: The way that I look at my son's behavior has improved!
Review: I now have some answers to questions I had about my son's behavior, especially his difficulty sleeping. I am using some of the suggestions in the book and they are working! Thanks Catherine! I whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone who has - or is about to have a chid.

Summary: Answers to my questions...
Review: I read a recent newspaper series on how children learn and it made me want to learn more about this topic. I was afraid to buy a book that would sit on my shelf because it would be too hard to understand. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Sensory Secrets was easy to read (I had a hard time putting it down and didn't want it to end). It helped me to better understand myself too! I especially liked the chapter on sensory information and how it relates to academics. I also liked the references to find out even more about this fascinating topic.

Summary: Logical information that leads to paradigm shift
Review: I read Sensory Secrets while in flight. It was captivating and I was especially drawn to the references to sensory experiences and how they effect the decision making process and the choices that we make. It has helped me to think "out of the box" in my work as a mechanical engineer. It was well worth the investment and it gave me a lot of good information to think about on the flight back. I needed something positive to think about and this book certainly worked for me. I am pleased to recommend it!

Summary: A Great Book for Parents and Teachers
Review: I recently read Sensory Secrets and it opened up new insights to human behavior. It was my first introduction into how sensory inputs and the brains processing of these signals can affect behavior. I immediately began to notice my own response to sensory inputs and how I dealt with them. I wish that I could have had access to this material when my children were growing up. I recommend this book to any parent. The Foundational Skills Inventory contains a useful matrix of information can be especially helpful in making a preliminary diagnosis of problems and evaluating the need for professional intervention.

Summary: A Must For Parents of Learning Disable Children
Review: I was very anxious to read this book and found that I could not put it down until I had completed it. I discovered things that described my child--things for which I had never had a complete understanding nor adequate words to describe. For example, I have always been very frustrated with my child's eating habits, not realizing that there was an actual sensory and neurological connection. Yes, I knew learning disabled children were sometimes picky eaters. I did not understand, however, why they might be a picky eaters. Nor did I understand that there were exercises to possibly resolve such problems.

It has been several years since my child was formally evaluated by our school's occupational therapist since he does not receive the services now of an OT. I had pondered what his growth in this area was or even if there had been growth. While it does not constitute a formal evaluation, the fold-out chart at the back of the book was extraordinarly useful in providing for me an idea of where my child stood. Moreover, I had a meeting at school the next day after my reading of Sensory Secrets, to discuss with a new teacher some problems we were having on accomodations. I was able to take the chart from Sensory Secrets along with information in the book and use it to discribe my child and why certain items on testing were problems and why specific accomodations were necessary. The book and chart have provided a way for me to give a professional opinion that I as a

parent was not able to convey with authority. This book is a must to have in your file as a reference. Without reservations, I recommend it.

Summary: Sensory Secrets: A Map to Understanding Yourself
Review: In a perfect world, by the time we reach adulthood, we would have mastered all of the foundational skills described in Sensory Secrets. But the world is not perfect, nor are we. So, while you may read Sensory Secrets to better understand children, by the time you finish the book, you will also better understand yourself. This book will change your perspective on day to day experiences, and offer you solutions to problems you barely realized were there.
