Rating: Summary: Truly Wonderful Information Review: An excellent discription of what Life and Love is all about. Catherine Schneider did an outstanding job of explaining the true meaning of connecting with children. It's all about teaching mothers, fathers, family members, teachers anyone who comes in contact with a child to help them know themselves and live life to the fullest. A lot of medical references, but down to earth and easy to read information. It is a book I would recommend to anyone who wants to help give a child all the benefits of a good life and a lot of LOVE. I am a 63 year old grandmother with 27 years of experience working with handicapped children and Catherine hit the nail right on the head.
Rating: Summary: This book ends nightmares and tears for parents and children Review: As a grandparent of an autistic child, reading this book was absolutely divine inspiration! Located within its pages are the answers to many, many question of what to do to help our grandson. His parents and I were at a loss as to how to help him. Now I clearly understand why his speech and motor skills are deficient and what to do to improve them. I now understand that he is not a picky eater, there is a deficiency in his olfactory skills that can be worked with and totally turned around. This book not only accurately describes the challenge, it provides the answers to the questions that many, many doctors have not been able to answer, but Catherine provides SOLUTIONS!!!! This very insightful and impactful book is a must read for anyone who has or works with children. It is chucked full of information not found anywhere else. There will be less hair pulling out if every person who interacts with children reads this book. I enthusiatically encourage every person who has children. It has the answers to prayers. I am so grateful to Catherine for sharing her knowledge.
Rating: Summary: A must-have resource for any pediatric professional Review: As a pediatric occupational therapist with a doctorate in private practice, I am continuously searching for resources for my clients who are desperately seeking information on sensory integration. I have found that Sensory Secrets is a great introductory resource especially for those families who are learning about sensory integration for the first time. They need a starting place, a way to fit all of the information they are being given about their child into the context of their own lives. This is a must-have resource for any pediatric professional to help guide families to a deeper understanding about their own child.
Rating: Summary: Great tool for parents and professionals Review: Catherine's book is a great tool for learning about sensory integration. It is easy to read and understand. She offers many useful strategies for working with children with multiple problems. Her functional skills inventory is simple to use and can be a way of tracking progress of a student over time as skills are achieved. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: If you don't have this one, you're library is not complete!! Review: Great book, very very good!!! You must have this one for your resource shelves. Therapists need the inventory for use in practice. What a great communication tool for parents, teachers and others to communicate with therapists. It helps parents to 'talk therapy talk,' just by filling in the inventory. The sensory secret checklist is great too. If you put this one on top of your list, you will recommend it too. Easy reading, with life changing information!!!

After reading Sensory Secrets, I felt like all the answers to good parenting were right at my fingertips. From the numerous practical examples given in the book, I could see so many similarities to problems and questions my friends and I have today. It's a MUST gift for anyone you care about who has young children and wants to be a better parent!
Rating: Summary: A gift for the future - Review: I bought several books to give for holiday presents and I am also planning to use them for baby shower gifts. Catherine brought to mind how to incorporate what children really need in the concept of "quality time."
Rating: Summary: Review of Sensory Secrets Review: I found Catherine Schneider's Sensory Secrets an easy read. It held my interest and was written in language that a lay person can understand. This book opened my mind to new ways of perceiving my child's behavior. Maybe the temper tanturm my child exhibited was actually a cry of too much sensory stimulation. Sensory Secrets has provided me with steps to take to help my child. These suggestions include touch, smell, taste, color, etc. I found the Note area on each page useful. I plan to give this book to a friend of mine who recently gave birth. It is a must read for new parents.
Rating: Summary: New Grandmother Reviews Sensory Secrets Review: I found Sensory Secrets to be very insightful and easy for a lay person to understand. I hadn't realized how the development of our senses affects our learning ability. I particularly liked the way the author devoted an entire chapter to each of the senses. Additionally, the list of ways for children to play to develop the senses was wonderful.I am a new grandmother (14 month-old grandson) and have given the book to my daughter. I also recommend it to any new parents, or people such as day care workers, who work with small children, even prospective parents, to help them understand the learning process that their child will be going through.
Rating: Summary: Great "Intro" Book Review: I found this to be a wonderful book for parents just entering the world of Sensory Integration Dysfunction. I explains so many of the terms and theories used by Occupational Therapists. However, this truly is an introduction, and not very helpful to anyone who has been working with an OT for any length of time.
