Summary: I UNDERSTAND MY SON BETTER NOW
Review: I have been reading similar books and I now am sure that I will be of more help to my 10 year old son. First I accept him and now never blame him for what he is. He has more self esteem now and a happier person. It is a great book. It has my underlinings almost at every page.

For those interested in coping with what called 'ADD' children,I can also suggest 'Nurtured Heart Approach' by Howard Glasser. This approach also worked wonders at my son.

Summary: This book is a PARENTS BLEESING!!!! RECOMMEND HIGHLY !!
Review: I was so overjoyed at reading this book, that I literally went to my son's school, took him out of the classroom for a few minutes in the hallway and told him everything is going to be o.k because Mommy found a book to help him and I understood how he learns now much better!

I then asked the teacher if he would mind a copy to read himself if I bought it. This teacher is one of those very special open-mined ones that is always trying to help his students in some way and he was very interested to have a copy.

My son is not hyperactive, but was always having focusing problems and reading and writing since 2nd grade we were trying everything under the Sun to help him. This book is an ABSOLUTE BLESSING!!
I too would love to get a copy in every teacher's hand to read.
Every child is different and we need to help and UNDERSTAND their ways of learning!

Summary: Understanding and Teaching Persons with ADD
Review: I can't seem to put this book down! I love the way it explains the right-brain (ADD) thinking process and most of all, how to help children who are right-brain thinkers! It has helped me understand the way my children think. I am now able to explain homework to them better than I used to. I am also a happier, more confident parent!

Summary: Light for the path!
Review: Mothering and homeschooling a child who learned "differently" was a trying and exhausting adventure, to say the least! I knew in my heart my child was unique and sort of "quirky", and after searching for help in the public library and discovering little there to really help me or give me some hope and encouragement, I finally did stumble over Jeffrey Freed's book on the shelf. "What a unique title!" I thought. After standing in the aisle and skimming through the book, I was intrigued and hopeful! Mr. Freed's insightful and resourceful book literally turned bright floodlights onto the dark path I was destined to trod with my child, in tow! My child, via the 20 question inventory, was somewhat right-brained according to me, but according to my child's answers, extremely right-brained! After I read Mr. Freed's detailed, easy, and right-brained approach to teaching the traditional subjects, I tried his approach in spelling one Saturday morning. I discovered to both my and my child's delight, just how visual she truly was! My son and husband too, were truly amazed when she spelled "opportunity" and other words both forwards and backwards without skipping a beat! I purchased my own copy and have reread, highlighted, and employed Mr. Freed's suggestions. Almost immediately, my daughter's self-esteem rose and I was "freed" to see her as gifted, not damaged as the traditional school system leads us parents of "ADD" children to believe. Educators, wake up! I would encourage parents and teachers alike to "re-view" and readjust their teaching methods to fit the child. I have purchased another copy for our local school system's exceptional children's program director.

Summary: New hope for all who enter here!
Review: Tomorrow morning my son starts his sophomore year in high school, and I hope and pray it will be better than the last few academic years. This book has given me real hope by providing practical approaches to the challenges posed by and for my gifted, ADHD, right-brain son. As a former educator who became disenchanted by the dinosaur methods required by public school systems, I actually found my passion for teaching returning while reading this book. I only wish this book had been around 15 years ago, as I will forever be haunted by certain kids (David, Chip, Courtney, Chico - what became of you?) Now, I feel newly empowered and can pass that along to my son, who generally picks up on my mood faster than I do! Thank you, Jeffrey and Laurie, for finally distilling all the theories floating around into a cohesive whole. Highly, highly recommended!

Summary: Best book I've ever read!
Review: Right Brained Children in a Left Brained World is an excellent book. I've read so many books since my child was diagnosed as ADHD six years ago, and this is by far the best. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to convince our local educators to read it. It could help so many children that are currently struggling in school. Our son is now 12 years old, is not on any medications, is going to a Montessori school, and doing just fine. After reading this book, I've found it so much easier to understand him. I wonder if Jeffrey Freed does any public speaking on this subject. I sure hope he does. We need to get this information out. I will be taking this book with me to our local public school meeting on Curriculum and hoping to get the teachers to pick up a copy and read it over the summer!

Summary: Makes sense
Review: I'm a psychologist, and this book makes sense to me. Like the authors, I don't believe that "behavior mod" is the way to go with lots of kids - it treats them like machines...the behavioral model was originally designed in experiments with animals, and takes any "human" quality out. I also have a daughter who is having some behavior problems, and the book's approach works better with her than more "traditional" programs. I give the authors a lot of credit for going beyond the status quo in thinking how to work with a child.

Summary: Right Brained Children in a Left Brained World
Review: A friend gave me this book and it brought me so much HOPE! I now see the tremendous strengths of my children and focus less on what skills they lack. I also better understand their hypersensitivities both physically and emotionally and am becoming more aware of their needs. My children will be tested for ADD next week and I am hoping they are right brained thinkers because of the tremendous potential this type of thinking has for a happy, productive, fruitful, creative life. I am thrilled to know there is no "deficit" in my children, they simply learn differently. Sometimes they learn a bit more slowly, but once they grasp the concepts they can run with it much further and faster than their left brained mom! I am blessed to have a creative teacher and principle who are willing to impliment many of the suggestions in this book. It was a joy to give them their own copies, knowing that they will now understand right brained children and work at getting them over the bumps in the typical school classroom.

Summary: Right on target
Review: Finally someone looking at the actual behaviors of these kids and considering actual causes intead of always blaming that ever-elusive 'chemical imbalance'. This book is full of concise, pertinant information. I wish every parent could read this before making the 'medicate or not to medicate' decision. This should be required reading for those who teach and diagnose.

Summary: BEST OF CLASS!
Review: As a right-brained mother of an 11-year old right-brained child, who has tried for years to discover the "keys" to bringing out the best in my child, I can't thank Mr. Freed and Laurie Parsons enough for their work in this book. This should be required reading for any teacher who truly wants to reach ALL the children in the class and who cares about making learning fun again. Kids need to be challenged to use their minds "visually" more often in the classroom -- even if they aren't right-brained. A workbook companion to this book would be the icing on the cake. And to those who say they need to see proof such as control group studies, all you really need to see is see the eyes light up in the face of a child who finally knows he doesn't have a "deficit" but a wellspring of knowledge that has found its way out of the mind.
