Summary: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Review: After 4 years of reading depressing books about what to expect from my ADHD child, finally I feel like someone has given me the key to unlocking his wonderful potential. As a homeschooling parent this book is a special blessing! The first day I read it I tried writing out the word collaborate and followed the instructions to have him visualize it. (This is a 9 year old child who is a full grade level behind in spelling) He not only spelled it, he immediately spelled it backwards without missing a letter. I cried! This book will be an immense help in choosing curriculum for him, and I would highly recommend it as a must to parents of ADD/ADHD labeled children.

Summary: THIS BOOK IS A MUST, for understanding ADD, and Dyslexia
Review: Jeffrey Freed's book was so good that I had to contact the author and thank him. His book helped me to understand how gifted some of our so-called "Learning Disabled" children really are.

The part that really got my attention was his assertion that "Right-Brained people, almost without exception, make the best speed readers (see p. 119)." You see, I am a speed reading teacher.

After reading his book, I took special effort to note how Right-Brain dominant children did in my speed reading classes (this was fairly easy, since he has questionaires on pages 48 to 50 that help identify Right-Brain dominance). The differences between the Right-Brained and Left-Brained children in my classes was amazing. Based on my experience, Mr. Freed is right on target. Right-Brained people really do make the best speed readers. Jeffrey Freed's discovery was so important that when I updated my own book (Speed Reading 4 Kids) in 2000, I needed to add a new chapter explaining these differences.

I often recommend this book to parents of ADD, ADHD and Dyslexic children so they can understand their children's different learning needs.

Summary: A Breath of Fresh Air
Review: I get so tired of hearing that children simply have ADD/ADHD. But why is their attention so distracted? Is medication the answer for every child? Children and their parents have an outlet to better understanding their childs learning differences (vs. disorder). This book is an easy reader, with explanations and choices. It shows helpful avenues to help solve learning differences and are even broken down by subject. Everyday we progress into a right brained learning system with the progression of video games, computers, cable, and many other visual stimulations. However, the teaching techniques have not been updated with this progression. This book gives new insight as to why your child may be struggling, and helps you to help him/her succeed their challenges.

Summary: AWSOME!
Review: This book is a God send. When I started to read this book I couldn't stop. I finished it and immediately went out and bought the only two copies I could find to give to my son's teachers. I felt as though I was reading about my child in this book. I could relate to everything Mr. Freed was talking about. I tried the examples in the book and when my child spelled words I never heard of, both forward and backward, without skipping a beat, I cried. It still amazes me. After 6 long years of struggling with schools, homework, and conferences with school officials...a solution.

Thank you for revealing what these children truly are...GIFTED. Mr. Freed and Laurie Parsons. You have given me hope. For that I can't thank you enough.

Summary: best ever read on add/should be required by all in teaching
Review: I have never read a better book on add and adhd. my son has struggled with add all through school, but because he was not hyper (adhd) well behaved and never drew attention he was one of the thousands that slipped through the cracks of the system. we finally, with our own money (about $5000) found out his problem, and he is learning, but it has been a long, hard struggle. this book is so on target with these children. The problem isn't that these children can't learn, but that they learn in a different way. not a wrong way, just different. it should be required reading before a teacher is allowed to teach. every year i struggle through the process of visting teachers over and over to make sure my child is learning at grade level, and explaning his way of learning and what i need from them. i shouldn't have to do this. as much money as i pay in taxes my child should be getting the help he needs, but they can't provide it becasue they don't teach in a way these children can learn. great, great book..any parent struggling through add/adhd with a child must read it. not only does it pinpoint the problem, but makes you feel great about your child and his/her ability.

Summary: I now understand my children!
Review: I devoured this book because it revealed to me the whys of my kids (and myself): why they behave the way they do in school and at home, why they are taking interest in activities such as gymnastics and music, etc. I am recommending this book to all of my friends who have kids like ours and who are struggling in the private school setting in NYC. I thank the authors for their dedication to help right-brained people realize their potential. It's really refressing

Summary: Wow! What an eye opening book!
Review: Wow! This book was quite an eye opener. I highly recommend it for anyone who has or teaches an ADD or ADHD child (or even just a child with learning difficulties).

I am a homeschooling mother of 5 children, ages 10, 9, 7, 4 and 6 months and have had constant challenges with my 9-year old son. He has been diagnosed ADHD and his doctor recommended medication. My husband and I read a lot and prayed a lot and decided that medicating him was not an option. We both felt that his "handicap" could actually be an advantage if handled correctly, however we seemed to be in the minority with that view. Many times while trying to teach him and wondering if he would ever pay attention to me, I began to doubt our decision also. Then came this book and it confirmed our thinking and has given me new ways to work with our son. He is now reading and writing very well and knocking my socks off with his mathematical ability. We are still working on spelling but the techniques in the book are helping us a lot. I think the biggest revelation this book taught me was that ADD and ADHD children (right-brained learners) see things as a series of pictures. This is what gives them the ability to see so much deeper into things - taking a word and making it 3 dimensional! I can also now see how my ADHD husband can look at a bunch of wood and a pencil drawing and transform it into an awesome entertainment center.

We truly need these right-brained learners in our world and I believe all parents and educators need to understand the different learning styles so they can teach all of our kids to use their God given talents to the best of their abilities.

Summary: A Guide for all teachers.
Review: I thought my child was learning disabled. This book proved that she is merely a right-brained visual learner. She is also ADHD and gifted. I couldn't understand why she had so much trouble with phonics and spelling. I've teased her that she has a teflon brain because some things just don't stick. Every week I help her with spelling using the visual method described in the book. She often makes A's depending on how much she practices. It's the only method that works for her. I also used the shortened version of teaching her long division and it worked like a miracle. Her teacher read the book and started making comments that she could add in her head much better than some of the others. This comment and other similar ones tremendously boosted her self-esteem. I am a teacher of gifted students also. This helped me understand many of my students that I thought were borderline ADHD. One parent was certain her child was dyslexic. After screening the child for dyslexia I finally proved to her that he is just right-brained. She was a little annoyed with me for teaching him how to spell backwards because now he spells much better backwards! She must think I put a real "spell" on him! I can't thank Dr. Freed enough for finally explaining why my so called "gifted" child couldn't spell simple words. He also made the connection of gifted and ADHD that I felt existed but couldn't prove or explain. I now understand the difference between gifted, ADHD, dyslexic, and right-brained children. I would like a sequel to the book because I've referred to it for other math problems but there was none. This book should be a requirement for ALL teachers!

Summary: It changed our world
Review: I read this book a couple of years ago and it changed the way I looked at my son. More importantly, however, it changed how my son looked at himself. After sharing some of the book with him, he began to call himself, with much pride, right brained instead of ADHD. I would encourage everyone to read this book and send it to family, friends, counselors and teachers to read as well. You won't look at life the same way again. For our family, it was life changing. My son loves to say now, "There's nothing wrong with me, I just see things differently from the rest of the world!"

Summary: He was blind, but now he sees!
Review: My precious middle son struggled through Kindergarten, first, second and third grade before struggling through the fourth grade twice. He's now in fifth grade and struggling again - in everything except math & science. He enjoys math & science and excels in these subjects. Because he attends a loving, nuturing, Christian school, he's never been labeled ADD or ADHD or anything like that. But I've been to so many parent teacher conferences where I'm told, "he's just not getting it". We've hired a professional tutor, I've spent literally 4-6 hours a night helping him with homework and still he brings home poor grades.

One day as I picked him up after school he joyfully proclaimed "Mom, I'm right brained and that pretty unusual since I'm right handed. I'm pretty special!" What magic words! I was telling a friend of mine who is going after her masters in education. She lent me this book to read. I had tears in my eyes as a read the introduction - I said that's my child, that's my child! I gave him the test with the colored circles and was amazed that he could, after looking at them only 20 seconds, tell me the sequence of the colors not only frontwards - but backwards as well. Not only that, but hours later when we were telling Dad, he still could tell the colors in sequence frontwards & backwards without another look. Not only that, the next day, he was able to correctly tell me the colors - frontwards and backwards! He said "See Mom, I can remember things!" For the first time in his life, my child is excited about reading, spelling and penmanship!

I'm so grateful for the book. It should definitely be required reading for all educators and administrators in American school systems. I agree that more and more children are right brained as our world becomes more and more visual. Right brained children are the actually leading the pack, they are what will one day soon be the norm. This is an excellent book for anyone who needs or wants to be on the leading edge of education.
