Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Amazing for stress elimination Review: 1st -PLEASE MAKE AN AUDIO FORMAT AVAILABLE!!! Chopped up into 10-15 minute intervals. Not a new-agey, stoned, egotistical, or harsh voice. Get one to match the author's writing voice. One that's knoledgeable, practical, open, funloving, well rounded, and just plain likeable. Maybe the voice of Steve Ross from the Oxygen yoga show Inhale? I would pay just about any price for an audio version of this book on CD with the right voice. As the author says, mediation is simple and can be explained in 5 minutes or less. but so what? We already "know" many beneficial things. They are useless unless the mind is engaged and we actually "do" them. That's the true value of this book, it kept me interested enough to DO IT. As other reviewers have commented, this book explains medititation benefits, why we might want to do it, is not "religious" or converting yet has colorful and interesting bits of history and flavor, as well as being practical for step by step. A wonderful balance. Before, when I was stressed with frustration, anger, or worry I would have dinner with a friend, read, or watch TV or a movie. That would usually help a bit and get my mind off the stress for the evening. But it was back again the next day and still growing. Now, when I am stressed, which is relatively rare, I read sections of this book for maybe 10-20 minutes to get in the right frame, meditate, and the stress is eliminated. Not temporarily distracted, but gone. And it doesn't return. Moreover, if I encounter the same issues that were stressing me out the next day I do not become stressed out again. I have a clear mind on the subject, decide and do what seems best, and that's the end of it. I've recommended this book to many and even bought it and given it away. If you are having a problem with stress I can't recommend this book highly enough. Many, many thanks Stephan Bodian for this wonderful book!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Brilliant insights and well-communicated Review: I meditated for hours a day for twelve years earlier in my life. I wish I had had this book! Sometimes a few pieces of simple information can make all the difference, helping you through a blind spot or a thorny hedge that's in your way. This book worked this way for me, and I highly recommend you check it out!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: If you can only buy 1 book on meditation, this is it! Review: I never thought I'd write that a book with "for dummies" in the title was one of the most interesting and thorough books I've ever read, but Mr. Bodian's work definitely deserves high praise. As he says in his own review above, this book's title is a misnomer, anyway. It should be something like "Meditation for Just About Anyone/Everyone". This book is so thorough and well thought out that it is hard to imagine anyone who is interested in learning more about meditation not discovering something of value regardless of what sparked that interest in the first place. In fact, should someone with NO interest in meditation happen to pick it up, I think they would "discover" an interest in it. It's that well done. The reader will find information on "how-to", applications in everyday life, the history of meditation, references to other resources and much more. All that is missing is someone to do the meditation for you!

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Meditation for Dummies Review: I was expecting a rudimentary course on the subject of meditation. Something that would be clear and coherent and easy for a novice to understand. I wasted my money. This book is hard to keep in your hands, easy to lose focus. Not at all what I expected

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Good introduction Review: The book itself was a good introduction, however I felt it didnt grab me, as a reader , well enough. Difficult to explain , I guess I can say the book didn't really grab my attention and make me want to go and meditate. However, this book was a good introduction to meditation. If you already understand the fundamentals of meditation and know the background, I suggest you skip the book, otherwise go ahead and check it out, its worth it!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: If you only get one book on meditation, this is the one. Review: There are an incredible number of books on meditation, but this one is the largest collection of information on the subject I've ever seen, from the most broad perspective. Bodian is a Buddhist, but he covers many other kinds of meditation in an unbiased way. And he tells you step-by-step how to do them. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and the only helpful thing I didn't cover in my book was how to meditate, even though meditation is valuable, scientifically-validated, and good for your health, both psychological and physical. It wasn't necessary to write about it because so many good books have been written, and Bodian's is the most complete. This is a practical handbook anyone can use to learn to meditate, delivered in an interesting, easily-accessible format. I recommend it highly.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: not what i exspected!!! Review: This book really isn't so good... The first 150 pages is used to really show how the AUTHOR thinks of things, and HIS filosophies... (sp?) Then the meditation, its shown pretty good on 20 pages, and thats it. Then there are all the history and stuff once more! Sure, it learned me to meditate, but i could have saved countles hours if someone just said "close your eyes, repeat a word in your mind, and you got it" instead of reading all this stuff, which i dont even agree with!
