Review: This book is an excellent resource for therapists and counselees alike. Bourne does an excellent job covering the different disorders and explaining them in easy to understand language. He also provides a variety of techniques for people to try out. He looks at anxiety from all angles and not just one school of thought.

Review: This book is great for both practitioners and those suffering from an anxiety disorder. It gives a nice overview of the etiology of different types of anxiety disorders as well as how to determine which one you or your client may have. The author also discusses many techniques which have been demonstrated to be quite effective for alleviating anxiety. The reader is shown how to develop his or her own anxiety-management program taking a wholistic approach, including diet, exercise, time management, etc. Overall, a great resource!

Summary: Guaranteed recovery from anxiety and fears with this book.
Review: This book is set to change my life forever.Let me first tell something about me and then write about the book.Only then can one appreciate how good this book is.

I am 27 years old and I am suffering from panic disorder and agoraphobia for the last 8 years. This has made me underacheive even with all the intelligence. All I could get from the doctors was some prescriptions for Xanax or Klonopin or some antidepressants.Worse though , I had huge trauma and unbelievable anxiety and fears when a doctor took me off 1.5 mg Xanax that I was prescribed for 7 years in one go and eventually I have somewhat stabilised on Klonopin and am slowly reducing it.

Then I got this book from Amazon.com and read it cover to cover in a week.Wow , Had I got this book a few years before I am sure I would have been a more confident person by now.The way the author instills confidence in you is simply amazing. The best example is how he dispels fearful notions about a panic attack. The organization of the book is exemplary. It has dealt with practically all forms of anxieties and phobias. It uses very good illustrations and easy to understand explanations.Several charts and self-quizzes are there to help you assess yourself.Several natural methods are recommended and if atleast a few are mastered , life can become more pleasant. He describes how to recognize symptoms of anxiety , which itself reduces its build up and he also gives ways to cope with panic if it gets out of control. I found the chapters on cutting down negative thoughts and changing mistaken beliefs very helpful. He also addresses larger life issues which are fundamentally necessary for recovery from any anxiety/phobia.

Relaxation exercises and desensitization methods are explained wonderfully. The author also addresses the roots of anxiety and how to take care of them.He has also written two very good chapters on nutrition and medications which I found very helpful. The author is not fully opposed to drugs which I like as serious anxiety needs to be treated with drugs first and then only natural methods can kick in.

I went from being a total nervous wreck to be able to get out to my university in just a few months with the help of this book.I used deep breathing and meditation techniques described in the book. With these my blood pressure and heart rate dropped.I still have a long way to go towards complete recovery partly because of withdrawing Xanax so fast , but I have made a promising beginning and this book will always be my companion. I hope to be a drug free and a more cheerful person in the next few years. Huge thanks to Edmund Bourne for giving this wonderful book.

A must for all sufferers of any type of anxiety or phobia.

Summary: The best
Review: This book is the best, most thorough self-help resource on anxiety that I have read. Bourne covers a wide variety of areas (for example, relaxation, cognitive, and nutritional strategies) and covers them in more detail than other books do. Bourne also provides some (but not too much) information about the rationale behind and research support for the techniques in this book. My only criticism is that the book is long and time-consuming; You'll have to be willing to make a time committment if you hope to benefit from this book.

Summary: A great resource.
Review: This book really helped me work out some issues on my panic attacks. It helps by providing insight from the first page. It is a definite must read that helps those of us suffering from panic move back into a more normal life. I also would recommend "What if...? My Story of Panic Attacks" which I though was resourceful as well.
