Summary: The Best Book On Borderline Personality
Review: This book deserves more than 5 stars. I have read almost every book on BPD that is written and Kreger and Mason have "cracked the code" on BPD. This book is well-written for the clinician, student, the person living with a borderline and the borderline as well. I can't strongly recommend this book enough. At last we have a book that spells it out for us and also give some skills to work with and set boundaries. SWOE should be required reading for every college course dealing with personality disorders.

Summary: This Book Saved My Mental Health
Review: After three years of marriage with a wife who suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Borderline Personality disorder, this book removed the fear and confusion I was living in and provided clarity and clear cut answers.

With the help of the book I was able to understand the dynamics of the marriage I was in and pinpoint better the cause of the crazy, absurd behaivor my wife was exhibiting. I could see better her actions and my actions, and the associated triggers causing our joint actions.

The book is credible and provides tremendous real-life experiences that easily mapped to my own indivdual situation. Based on the organization, content, and real -life experiences I literally had an answer to the confusion I had been living in.

The book is written in a format that moves from clinical diagnosis to real-life examples to suggested 'how to's'. Of added value is information on available on-line resources which complement the core value proposition of the book.

I was able to, with confidence, and absence of emotion, make the proper decisions for my marriage and my life. If you find yourself in a relationship that has your spouse or significant other diagnosed with BPD this book will help you understand what has happened to you and what your options may be for your future. BPD is a terrible disease. SWOE is a great tool to have.

Summary: Practical Application
Review: I have nothing scientific to say about the validity of the information in this book because I am not an expert in the field. I "deduced" my husband's disorder from reading a book on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and realizing that he qualified for every test of BPD. From there, I began searching the web for resources and ordered and read this book. (PS, the counsellors confirm the diagnosis)

I CAN tell you that this book provided more therapeutic help (ability to understand my trauma; ability to cry/wail about my pain, abuse and loss; ability to hope - sort of) than 1.5 years of counselling with my BPD husband - which, of necessity - and BPD manipulation - focused almost entirely on him and stabilizing his behavior.

Those who live with BPD people rarely have the resources (time) to help themselves, since all the family resources (and I do mean ALL resources - money, time, love, etc.) are sucked into the "black hole" of BPD personality. Reading just a couple of pages a day helps immeasurably.

Summary: "Something to help us- Those who only cared too much"
Review: I was in a 30yr. marriage with a man who turned out to have Borderline Personality Disorder, for most of those years I had no idea just what I was dealing with. I ended the relationship last year. Even many therapists today don't understand what those of us close to people with BPD go through. I've searched for a way of healing so I can finally have a life of my own. Today, your book arrived at my home and after reading only the cover and one paragraph--I was in tears-- Now, I can start to really heal. God Bless you for writing something to help us-- those who only cared too much, and tried to love unconditionally. I first read "I hate you-- Don't leave me" which helped me understand about BPD, and I would recommend it to others searching for information. Don't go another day feeling confused and overwhelmed-- get this book, and "get your life back!" Thanks Again, Joyce Russell :):)

Summary: Stop Walking on Eggshells: Taking Your Life Back When...
Review: This book brings humane understanding to the often perjorative term Borderline Personality Disorder and brings the reader to deeper understanding of those who suffer from this disorder, letting the sufferers of this illness be known as persons with damaged internal vulnerability that often can't be articulated, just acted out or in by the individual. What sets this book far above many books on BPD is the research the authors did utilizing the non-local reaches of the internet to quiz a number of persons in BPD self-help groups and also the self-help group(s) of persons who love and cope with those who have BPD. The comprehensiveness of this book is wide, indeed, in scope and what is profoundly interesting are the specific insights BP persons and those who love and care for them give which take you deep into the personal experience, agonies and challenges of coping with behaviors of this often misunderstood mental illness. The book also includes techniques for those who must deal with the rages and unpredictability of the PB person. One key piece of advice is to stop being a sponge for the feeling states that those with BP project onto those nearest them. Easily understood directions are listed on how to mirror the BP, hold to limits in a respectful, yet firm way, and to support the BP getting the help they need for the book strongly addresses the concept that ultimately those with BPD are responsible for their behavior. The authors give the reader interesting and useable scripts, provocative personal comments that make the reader deeply reflect on the agony of the BP's mental states and clearly details step-by-step what to do if you are the spouse, child or parent of a loved one with BPD. Wonderful resources are also listed to obtain help or more knowledge about this mental disease of BPD that many feel is untreatable, abelief which the authors of this book definitely do not agree with. An excellent and informative read and a must-have for a clinician's library.

Summary: It All Makes Sense Now
Review: This is the one book I've read so far that is truly helpful and informative for relatives of a BPD sufferer.

It supplies clear reasons for the many perplexing and agonizing questions and doubts that plague the minds and hearts of the loved ones of a BPT. My first response was to sit down and cry when I realized that I wasn't losing my mind and that there were actually other people experiencing this.

It is a lifeline to understanding what is happening to you and to the BPD sufferer and gives practical ways to rebuild coping abilities.

An excellent read.

Summary: Extremely helpful.
Review: I found this book to be extrememly helpful giving me greater insight into the world of someone with BPD. It has helped me to better understand the behavior of a loved one. The second half of the book is great in learning how to deal with one's own pain and confusion when dealing with a person with BPD and in how to deal with the BPD person as well. I recommend this to anyone who is living with someone in their life who has BP and it is even a good read for Psychology students as well.

Summary: There Really Is A Light In The Forest!
Review: After working with hundreds of borderlines in mental health settings and in the everyday world, I, as a psychiatric social worker, had read most of the recognized works on BDP. Most were academic or treatment oriented; they did not offer relief for the lay person who has a borderline loved one in their life. This book stands head and shoulders above the rest. It is easy to read for clinicians and non-clincians alike. It is objective and gives nonjudgemental information to the borderline and to the non-borderline. Here's hoping that clinicans will be more willing "to hang in" with the borderline for the long-term after reading this book. I'm recommending this as "must" reading to other mental health practioners.
