I have been trying several techniques to deal with anxiety including breathing and relaxation exercises, and meditation. While researching the issue of anxiety, I came across this book and decided to give it a shot. The book offers some very valuable suggestions for dealing with anxiety. It first defines anxiety and shows you what kinds of thoughts create anxiety. In this way, one can analyze one's thoughts and change them. One especially powerful tool described is that of immdiately replacing a negative thought with a corresponding positive one. Similarly, there are tons of such tools to help change the way one thinks. The premise, which sounds reasonable, is that negative thinking is a major contributor to anxiety. The book also discusses the effect of diet on moods and the kinds of foods to avoid. I would be hard-pressed to say that this book can cure any level of anxiety; one may still need additional help. But I can comfortably say that the tools and techniques described in this book have helped me realize when my thoughts are creating stress and anxiety out of nothing, and in this way has helped me better deal with the real stressors that life presents.

It is very hopeful and reassuring when Ms. Bassett reveals the common symptoms and fears that anxiety patients share. It also has a powerful message about recovery from this disorder, how it is in your hands and it's not just the doctors and their drugs. You should read the book, share it with your heathcare provider and decide if the Attacking Anxiety Program is the one for you. I myself am very grateful that I read about this book on an anxiety message board.

Review: I think another reviewer the same thing- Lucinda wrote this book about me!! I was a wreck from anxiety and had every test in the book to find out what was physically wrong with me. Nothing showed up. I was put on 3 different med's for anxiety and depression and all they did was numb me. I researched several self help books, this one stood out above the rest. Her methods started to work from the beginning, and slowly I am learning to work through and even laugh at my panic attacks! I am only half way through, and I am at 80%, I plan on getting to 110%! Thanks Lucinda, you have been a blessing in my life.

Review: When you're reading a book that you feel was written especially for and about you, you have a good book! Lucinda Bassett's From Panic to Power showed me that I am not alone. This book teaches you effective ways to overcome your fears and ways to deal with panic attacks. You suddenly find what you've always felt was a horrible "problem" to be a gift. A gift which enables you to seek your true power and greatness. This book has done wonders for me. I was so impressed with it that I bought the book on audio cassette. It's a great tape to listen to while you're stuck in traffic. Give Lucinda a chance to help you too.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best "anxiety book" I've found Review: In addition to being of help to me, I have given this book as a gift to two relatives. What I find most helpful about Lucinda Bassett's approach to anxiety recovery is that she does not teach that anxiety sufferers are "defective" or "mentally ill." Lucinda defines anxiety as an "emotional disorder" and says that it really is just the accumulation of "bad habits." Getting rid of those "bad habits" is the "cure" for anxiety. This is why I find Lucinda's approach so refreshing, because it removes the "stigma" attached to anxiety; not only does she say that anxiety is just a "bad habit," she says that those of us who experience anxiety are typically people with above average intelligence and wonderfully creative minds. The only problem (the "bad habit") is that we use that above average intellect, and our wonderfully creative minds, to scare ourselves. I also like Lucinda's style of telling stories. She has a really uplifting outlook on life and helps to open her readers' eyes to the possibilities of life.
