Rating: Summary: terrific Review: This book provides an excellent overview of AS. It is a terrific jumping off point, I recommend it for all parents of the newly diagnosed and even for those of us who have been living with this for years.(Its a great validation in many respects.)
Rating: Summary: The Oasis Guide to Asperger Syndrome Review: This is "THE" Book!!! The book We, as parents and caregivers of children with AS have been waiting for! This is by far, the most comprehensive Guide on Asperger Syndrome available! It is packed full of practical and technical information, insight, support and encouragement. A true Treasure of a Resource, keeping in mind the "whole child" and family on every page. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. A real MUST HAVE! Thank you Barb and Patty!

Rating: Summary: Great for preschoolers--not so good for preteens +older Review: This is a summary of the Oasis web site--built on actual experiences of the authors and information they have received from others with Asperger's in the family. It is a great introductory book for a newly diagnosed preschooler. But if your child is a preteen, teenager, or even an adult, the book is sadly lacking. There is only one Chapter at the very end that does a cursory job on these older individuals. You would do better to get Roger Meyer's workbook and use it for these older children.
Rating: Summary: For Parents this is Great Review: This is a wonderful book for parents of children with Aspergers syndrome. It is a resource book and tactical manual on dealing with healthcare providers and, more importantly, with schools and school districts. It is not a book on treatment, or diagnosis except and general discussions. This is also not a book to help adults with Aspergers. Good sections on dealing with children and adolescents with the problem. Many coping strategies for parents.
Rating: Summary: The FIRST book to buy Review: This is the book I've been waiting and searching for! If you buy only ONE book on AS, this is the one to buy. As a mother of an AS child, I spent years searching through books and never found the comprehensive and insightful information I was looking for until this book! Full of many other resources, as well, so you won't have to search any farther. BUY THIS BOOK and you do your AS loved-one a favor.
Rating: Summary: What a gift! Review: This is the book that all parents of kids with Asperger's Syndrome have been waiting for! Only another parent knows how frustrating it can be to research AS on behalf of our kids, running from one web site to the next, tracking down articles, finding that the most recent book on the topic you need is six years old. Now we have it all between two covers: the answers to our questions about diagnostic techniques, medications, therapies, related conditions, dealing with schools, relatives, our children and our own stresses! All of it is well researched, well-written, and easily readable. I ordered more copies for my family and for my school, and I'm drafting a letter asking our public library to stock it! This will be the book, above others, that I recommend to people asking me "Do you think my child could have AS?" Congratulations and a thousand thanks to Barb and Patty for this wonderful work.
Rating: Summary: Most helpful book regarding Asperger Syndrome Review: This was the most helpful book I have read regarding Asperger's Syndrome, and I have read dozens! The reason I got so much from this particular book is because Barb and Patty shared their own personal stories about their own children. That fact alone made me believe and understand that these ladies really understood the syndrome and how it affects our families' everyday lives. Their experiences have paved the way for many of us and given us hope during our lowest times. My daughter Kris and I have used many of Barb and Patty's methods and ideas for helping my grandson Sam be the best he can be.

Rating: Summary: Most Comprehensive Book Yet Review: We are new to the diagnosis of Aspergers. At the age of 12, just a year ago, my child's diagnosis was changed from ADHD, OCD and Social Phobia, to Aspergers. I have read several good books about AS and other NVLD, but this is the best so far. Compiled of information gathered from parents of Aspies over their OASIS website, and with a forward by Tony Attwood, I found a wealth of information in this book. I have felt depressed and then hopeful as I come to the end of the book and have whole-heartedly recommended it to other Aspie parents. It does offer practical suggestion for handing everything from meltdowns to new situations and leads you through the medication maze and sepcial ed maze. I plan to buy a copy for his social worker and one to donate to his school. Excellent.
