Summary: This is a must for any parent of an AS child. Covers it all
Review: It is my opinion that ALL parents of an Asperger Syndrome child should have this book. I also feel that it should be available at all schools (at least school district offices). This book is a first hand reference to any problems that you may find yourself (and your child) facing. If you haven't experienced the school system yet this book will help you prepare yourself for what's ahead. If your child is in school then this book is an absolute MUST. You will use it almost daily. I have found answers to questions and solutions to problems. The resources are numerous. It brings comfort and peace of mind, you know you are not alone.

Summary: the best Asperger's book I've read!
Review: My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome two years ago. Of the 5-6 books devoted to Asperger's which I have read, this book is by far the BEST! It is very readable and easy for the layperson to understand and digest. Issues that were barely mentioned in other AS reference books were given time and space in the OASIS book.

Summary: Very good encyclopedic AS book
Review: The best part of this book is the fact that so much of the information is taken from a large pool of parents of AS people and AS people themselves (and not detached researchers).
They have covered many aspects of AS, but my favorite topic, the issues of adults with AS/HFA doesn't get much attention. Still, if you have a child with AS this is an important resource.

Summary: Informative and complete
Review: The OASIS Guide came to us at a terrible time in our lives. Nearly two years ago, our daughter's pediatrician urged us to seek an evaluation for "Pervasive Developmental Disorder." The Guide helped educate us about the various forms of PDD, as well as related disorders. It helped us navigate the educational system. It described the many therapies available to us. Since it was well-organized, we were able to skip sections that we felt were inappropriate for us, such as the detailed chapter on medications.

In short, the Guide made sense out of chaos, and it gave us hope.

We've read many other books on Asperger Syndrome, but none is as complete and as helpful as the Guide.

Summary: A perfect handbook for a parent
Review: The OASIS guide to Asperger Syndrome has been a wonderful handbook for me. When my son was diagnosed with Aspergers I searched the web and luckily found OASIS. I was thrilled when Patty and Barb published a book because it is something I can use when I meet with the many people that help my son at his school.

The book is laid out in such a way that it's easy to pick the part you want to read at any given moment. There's no need to read it from cover to cover. I really appreciate the effort that went into publishing this book and I recommend it all the time.

Summary: Outstanding book for teachers, para educators, and parents
Review: The OASIS Guide to Asperger's Syndrome is an excellent book for teachers and para educators as well as parents. It summarizes the key characteristics of persons with Asperger's Syndrome as well or better than other books I've read on the subject. There is also a clear presentation of interventions for teachers and parents to try. In addition, the book presents the "parent perspective" more thoroughly than other books on Asperger's Syndrome.

As an autism specialist for a large school district and as a former university special education faculty member, I would strongly recommend this book to teachers and para educators. In fact, if I were still teaching at the university, I would make this book required reading for my students. I currently refer teachers I work with to key sections in the guide as we create better curriculum and instruction for students with Asperger's Syndrome.

This is a book that para educators can also read and learn from. Since many students with Asperger's Syndrome are supported by para educators in classrooms, improving the skills of para educators is critical. This book can fill that role.

This well written book provides a common point for parents, teachers, and para educators to talk about students with Asperger's Syndrome and develop instructional programs at school and at home.

Summary: great resource for parents
Review: This book is "the Bible" for parents of children with Asperger's syndrome. I have read it cover and cover and go back again and again when new issues arise. It is a "must read" for parents, teachers and any others who want to learn all they can about this complex austim spectrum disorder.

Many of the books you read about AS are very complicated; this one is written in a style that makes it easy for anyone to understand.

Summary: A Must Have for Parents of an AS Child.
Review: This book is an informative and useful guide to finding resources, and creating opportunities for your AS child. I ordered this book along with The Child Whisperer by Matt Pasquinilli. I saw Mr. Pasquinilli speak at an event and he discussed his work with Autistic and AS children. His book The Child Whisperer has an anecdote about one AS boy who made an incredible amount of growth and change. Get the OASIS guide for the basics of how to improve the environment for you child and for some things you can do to make life more enriched and rewarding. Get The Child Whisperer by Matt Pasquinilli for a new perspective on how much children with AS can acheive and grow.

Summary: The OASIS Guide to Asperger Syndrome
Review: This book is the single most important source for answers to living with a child with an Asperger diagnosis. It is the first book I reach for when I need a concrete, real world answer to a parenting problem. The material is up to date and presented without bias. Sections which have been most helpful to me are those on medications and educational issues.

Summary: TRULY A GODSEND
Review: This book is truly a Godsend for parents, professionals and especially for persons with Asperger's Syndrome (AS). I like the way this book is broken down into clearly written and marked chapters dealing with education, legal matters, "melt downs," parent and social issues. These authors have done the world a big service. AS is a neurological spectrum condition that is on the same spectrum as autism. AS covers a series of behaviors that often make up for "undefined differences" that persons with AS contend with.

I like the way these authors provide web sites for AS related questions and issues. This book deserves a place of honor on our book shelves, in our professional dealings and in our hearts. Cheers for this book!
