Rating: Summary: Highly Recommend! Review: A wonderful book that was so helpful in preparing us for each step in our pregnancy, and preparing us to have a wonderful and satisfying labor and delivery! One very helpful thing about this book was that it wasn't "scary" like some books on pregnancy--I felt it prepared me for possible complications, but didn't make me worry about it (and I'm good at worrying!) Part of what gives this husband and wife author team so much appeal is they've "been there, done that" when it comes to pregnancy/childbirth. There's a lot to be said for that. I would definitely recommend this for anyone during this special time of life.
Rating: Summary: good resource, but I didn't like the attitude Review: This book had lots of good info (but not much more than any of the other pregnancy "bibles" out there), but I found the Sears' attitude to be annoying and patronizing. I found the portion about how labor should not be painful (great pressure, not pain ? ) to be semantic nonsense, and I felt that their attitude was basically "if you have great pain, it's your fault". I think it's just a new twist on the demeaning attitudes that society had for women who couldn't quietly muddle through childbirth without unduly upsetting anyone else
Rating: Summary: A great alternative to What To Expect Review: If you're looking for a book that will treat you like an intelligent woman who deserves to be armed with the facts on important pregnancy-related issues, this is the book for you. Like The Unofficial Guide to Having A Baby (another book that I heartily recommend), it believes that pregnant women and their partners are capable of making their own decisions about breastfeeding and working, nutrition during pregnancy, and other issues that the authors of What To Expect tend to get very preachy about. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the month-by-month structure. Not all of the problems that the authors describe handily crop up during the month that they've arbitrarily slotted the topic into. Also, the coverage of certain topics is very sketchy: you won't find much helpful advice on coping with a urinary tract infection, for example. (The Unofficial Guide to Having A Baby, on the other hand, offers you a number of potential remedies: everything from drinking lots of cranberry juice to urinating right after intercourse to prevent your UTI from recurring.) Still, these are minor quibbles about an otherwise excellent book.
Rating: Summary: First Pregnancy Review: I ordered this book as a guide through my pregnancy. It has been very helpful and it allows me to read month by month about changes that my body is going through and changes my baby is going through. This book is informative and does not worry you. I would encourage anyone looking for a great book on pregnancy to buy this book. Another great book is Advice from a Pregnant Obstetrician by Dr. Shari E. Brasner. I feel I have made 2 great choices purchasing pregnancy books due to helpful reviews that people write. It is important to get real feedback from real people.
Rating: Summary: Expecting #4 and still learning Review: It wasn't until I was pregnant with my fourth child that I discovered The Pregnancy Book. It is written in a straight-forward, easy-to-read style and discusses just about everything one could think to ask or want to know when they are pregnant. I especially enjoyed the inserts with actual commentary on the topic being discussed from a woman who was expecting. Her comments added a very personal touch to the book. Once you read The Pregnancy Book and know what to expect, I recommend We're Pregnant! -a book by an expectant couple - that puts many of the facts, tips and figures in The Pregnancy Book into real-life. Read them both and you will be well-prepared for the road to parenthood - be it your first, second or third time!
Rating: Summary: The pregnancy book Review: I'm pregnant for the first time and I'm finding this book very helpfull. It's very informative and complete. It covers month by month changes, what to ask your doctor, possible causes for situations. I've learned things that my friends with children didn't knew about! I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The intelligent woman's pregnancy book Review: Much better than the pregnancy "bible," What to Expect When You're Expecting. This is the one I refer to when I have questions. Gives very complete information for each month of pregnancy without being cutesy or condescending like so many other pregnancy books. This isn't advice from "girlfriends," it's facts you can use, from doctors.
Rating: Summary: Most Complete Pregnancy Book found by former Lamaze teacher! Review: This is the true 'what to expect when you're expecting' book. It is much more detailed and chock full of more useful information than the other pregnancy books I have read. It also tied in with lots of anectadotes regarding the emotions and questions pregnant women frequently find no answers to. I highly recommend it and give it to all my friends who are pregnant!
Rating: Summary: Clear, Concise and the only book you need Review: I got The Pregnancy Book as a gift early in my pregnancy and I was so glad that I did, it saved me a lot of money. I had not brought any book at that point and after getting it I did not have to buy any other book, I loved this book. Throughout my pregnancy, it was a constant reference for issues, changes, etc. that was occuring in my pregnancy. The book never failed me, my issue, no matter how small, was addressed in this book. In my 6th month I purchased The Baby Book to begin the preparation for my baby and with my 3 week old baby I reference it constantly. Dr. Sears is pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and childcare and I highly recommend his book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: I have other pregnancy books, but this one is the one I refer to the most. I have been reading it like a novel since I got it, because it is so informative and easy to follow. I am a first time mother, and this book is very reassuring. I will be sure to pass it on to my friends who are expecting when I am finished. It doesn't have a lot of photos, but the text will carry you through. I truly recommend it.
