Summary: The only book you need
Review: This is the best book I've read on pregnancy and childbirth. I only wish it would become standard reading instead of "what to expect when you're expecting". Without judgement, the authors provide women with information on the full range of choices for how they wish to experince pregnancy and childbirth, and they speak with the authority of having brought 8 children into the world, in a variety of ways. The authors explain both physical and emotional changes and challenges which face a pregnant woman, and their attitude throughout is supportive and compassionate. I felt better able to make choices I felt good about during my pregnancy because I was well enough infomed by this book of the consequences of those choices.

Summary: My All Time Fave Pregnancy Book
Review: I'm an info-nympho so this book fed my insatiable need for details and answers. It's also written in a very easy and humorous style. I love the Sears -- am devoted to attachment parenting, and think I have all their books. This is just a great book for any pregnant woman. Have fun!

Summary: The Best Pregnancy Book Out There!
Review: When I found out I was pregnant with our first baby I knew I had to have some good pregnancy books to guide me through this new experience. I bought several, but by far the best of the bunch is The Pregnancy Book by William Sears!
I've learned so much from this book and been so encouraged by it as well. The "Unofficial" guides and other more technically written books just ended up scaring me half to death, while The Pregnancy Book gave me the vital information I needed with very encouraging additions to help the technical information not come across as frightening!
When I had spotting at about 8 weeks this book reassured me, along with my doctor, that this was only a case of implantation bleeding... all the other books had me convinced that it was a miscarriage. Well, it turned out to be only implantation bleeding after all, so I've stuck to using this book alone as my guide throughout the rest of my pregnancy.
I'm in my fifth month now and I recommend reading each month a couple of weeks before the next month actually begins to help prepare for things to come and also to help if the next month symptoms come a bit early. Its always fun to see what I have to look forward to each and every month through my pregnancy.
I think doctors should make this book required reading for all expectant mothers! It really is that good!!!

Summary: Very informative and pleasant to read.
Review: You find out you're pregnant, so you need to read. I did too. After reading the reviews on the various books, I ordered this one and can honestly say, the reviews don't lie.

This book is extremely informative and pleasant to read. It has lots of information, without being overwhelming. I read this book at least three times over the course of my pregnancy and was happy to have done so. I was prepared for just about everything that came my way. Most normal side effects of pregnancy are described in various degree of detail, but in a way that does not make you worry or scares you.

The book is broken down by month and within each month into various subchapters that are loosely the same for each month. So it's easy to look up something that's ahead of where you're currently reading.

It also has additional information, like breastfeeding basics and excellent tips to help you through labor contractions.

I found this book very helpful throughout my pregnancy and I look forward to reading it again for future pregnancies. It is well written and nicely illustrated for better understanding.

Summary: Love it!
Review: I borrowed this book from a sister-in-law and like it so much better that the "what to expect" pregnancy guide!!

Summary: Excellent Guide
Review: This book was so completely helpful...I purchased many pregnancy books when I found that I was expecting and barely browsed any of them because this book had everything that I needed...There is so much information about every tiny detail of your pregnancy and it is conviently broken down month by month...There is even a chapter explaining how to deliver the baby yourself just in case you didnt make it to the hospital in time, which was just interesting to learn...each chapter ends with questions for you to answer about your own pregnancy... I highly recommend

Summary: Excellent, best pregnancy book I've read
Review: This book was great. It metioned all the feelings and thoughts as I was having them. It even answered the questions that were running through my mind that I thought were stupid. It made me feel normal.

Summary: Excellent book for anyone who is expecting
Review: I have read many pregnancy books but would emphatically say that The Pregnancy Book is truly THE PREGNANCY BOOK! It is practical, easy to read, thorough and contains excellent information. The explanations of the changes a woman undergoes during pregnancy gave me a very clear idea of what to expect and why. I enjoyed the descriptions of the developing fetus and I found the quotes from real-life women to be thought provoking and very true-to-life. The description of the labor and delivery process was the most accurate of any book I have read to this point. I was able to use some of the tips during my own delivery and have no doubt they helped to make it go more smoothly. The Pregnancy Book is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it to anyone who is expecting - whether it's the first time or the fourth. For a great book for couples to read, try We're Pregnant!, a down-to-earth look at the pregnancy experience from the perspective of both the expectant mother and the expectant father.

Summary: Get this book instead of "What to Expect..."
Review: This book was a fabulous resource. I got it after reading "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" and being very disappointed with the information given there. The Searses have lots of good information about what is actually happening to your body during pregnancy and why it happens. They spend much less time focusing on things that can go wrong in a very small percentage of pregnancies and instead give lots of good general information. This book prompted lots of good question and answer sessions with my doctor. I would recommend this book to any parent to be who wants to know what is going on physically and emotionally during pregnancy. This book also has some great tips on treating illness without drugs during pregnancy.

Summary: A good basic practical book on pregnancy
Review: I haven't read the book cover-to-cover yet. I am in my sixth month and I have mostly read up until where I am now. The book gets better and more useful with time, since I have experienced things like leg cramps and a back ache. The advice the authors have given to avoid these annoying pains have really worked.

I haven't given it 5 stars since a lot of the routines about where to go for your birth aren't relevant for me, because I am Swedish and live in Sweden. We also have different laws on maternity leave and when to tell your employer that you're pregnant etc. These parts of the book are not so useful for non-Americans. I also wish there had been some more information on yoga and fear of delivery and how to get prepared for delivery if you are scared. Another thing that the book lacks (and so do most pregnancy books) is an adequate section on bleeding. I was trying to be supportive to a friend that bled during the first five months. Her baby is fine and so is she, but she had to go to the hospital in order to find out that in MOST cases, bleeding is normal. Quite a large percentage of women bleed, without it having to mean signs of a miscarriage. Of course, it is important to have it checked out by a doctor, but it could be comforting to know that many other women have gone through it and that it everything could be fine. In general, me and my pregnant friends agree about that there are a lot of things that pregnancy books just don't cover.
