Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: It's 50/50 whether you like it or not. Review: We burned this book in the fireplace today. We have two boys and wanted to have a little girl. We followed the method perfectly, doing everything suggested. I even had my ovulation date confirmed as I was at an OB appointment she checked and told me I had just ovulated or was about to. It didn't work. We're having our 3rd boy. We will love him as much as our other boys. But if you are looking for hope in this book, it's still a 50/50 chance each time you have a child. My husand, who has a PhD in genetics, was always skeptical of the methods.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It Worked Both Times For Us! Review: I'm so glad to see this book by Dr. Shettles is still on the market because both my 16 year old daughter and my 13 year old son were conceived using his methods of gender selection. If you follow them correctly, these methods for conceiving males and females can significantly increase your chances for determining the sex of your child. My children are proof that they do. Not only that, but 11 out of 12 couples we know, who also followed Dr. Shettles instructions, successfully conceived the sex they had desired. The couple that didn't had a third son instead of a daughter. Take this book seriously. It's concise and easy to understand. Dr. Shettles was a brilliant physician.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: My family has used this for two generations! Review: I wrote a review back in 1996, which I believe must be archived now. In that review I mentioned that my family of 5 girls, who had 17 children (and now 3 of us are grandmothers of 6 grandchildren!) have used this book with several of the 17 and we all had 100% success! We had purchased the edition that was out in the 70's, but also had an old copy (different author?) from the 50's!
We've mentioned the book to people, or given copies as gifts, and everyone has had 100%!
Remember, it is still a good idea for the dads-to-be to be sure they are able to produce both sexes as fertile men can produce girls, but not males, so if you're hoping for a boy, be sure to know ahead of time that you can, in fact, produce one so as not to be disappointed!
And, if you still end up with the opposite sex, well, then that's what the good Lord chose as being best for you!
Many blessings!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: BLESSED Review: Two years after giving birth to my second son, my husband and I started contemplating having a third child. Specifically, we wanted a girl. We knew there was a pretty strong chance of conceiving another boy. So we decided to look into how your baby's gender is determined. Thankfully, I stumbled across this book at our local book store in January 1998. After reading this book I kept track of my cycles for a few months. Finally it was the month to give it a shot, so we held our breath and went for it. It was revealed four months later during an ultrasound we were going to have a baby girl! The news was delivered to us by our two boys, they couldn't have been happier. Exactly a year after purchasing this book our daughter was born. This book has traveled around my husband's police department for the last 5 years. It has worked for all the wives that have tried this method. However, be open to the fact that no method is 100% and be sure your getting pregnant is to have a child to love no matter what gender. But feel especially blessed if you get what you prayed for.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Must-Have for anyone trying to conceive!!! Review: I found this book very helpful and insightful even when reading it after conceiving two boys on my own. There were many "a-ha" moments throughout the book, when conception was put into a scientific perspective for me. Although we would have been quite happy to add another boy to our brood, we followed the recommendations for conceiving a girl faithfully for six months. Last month, we happily gave birth to our little girl. If you MUST have a baby of a specific sex, maybe you shouldn't have one at all. If you would like to have a baby of a specific sex, but would be happy with a healthy child of either sex, arm yourself with this book and go for it!!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It works! Review: If I had not followed this book's advice about following the pattern of your discharge, I would have assumed my ovulation was "Day 14" - that magic day that so many sources quote. I ovulated on Day 12. I followed the instructions for the girl and we were blessed with a girl. (We already had a boy.)
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: 85% is still pretty good odds Review: What a lot of people aren't saying in the reviews is what the book itself states categorically from the beginning. Using no method - your odds are 50% of getting a child of the gender you desire. Using this method, your odds are 85%. There are no 100% methods. Those individuals who followed the method outlined, even perfectly, still we at the mercy of that 15% factor.
Saying the book doesn't work because it didn't work in some cases is just wrong. As you can tell from the reviews, the majority of people did get the gender they wanted. This is what the method states, about 85% of people will get the gender they desire. The book lives up to its hype.
I gave the book 4 stars rather than 5 only because when I read the book I found the style a little too scientific at times. Meaning, to get the most out of the book you will probably need to read it at least a couple of times before you start trying to chart your fertility.
It's important to really practice before making any attempts. And to be aware of things that you may be doing to skew factors against yourself, such as using contraceptive foams that make the body more likely to concieve a girl when what you want is a boy. Read the whole book. Read it several times.
Really nail down your ovulation, then give yourself 5-6 practice cycles before you make an attempt. Recognize that you are trying to skew odds, you can't control them. 85% of a chance is better than 50% but it's no garuntee.
If you MUST have a child of a certain gender, and know that you will feel let down or depressed if you get the opposite gender -- don't have the child. If you're both ok with whatever you get, you're in a good position to use the method.
Try to make it fun. This method can leave you thinking, uhg, this is going to be so clinical, but it's really up to you. I think it actually adds a lot of interest and fun to the process if you have to 'play' within the rules. And of course, prayer never hurts either.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: DID NOT WORK FOR US.....! Review: In the interest of public service I thought I'll report our experiences with this book. After having had our daughter we bought the book to see if we can increase our chances of conceiving a boy the next time.
We read the book and decided to do chart several 'practice cycles' to get to understand my cycle better. I charted all the relevant signs (temperature etc.) and we avoided getting pregnant by avoiding the week before my usual (very regular) ovulation.
Unfortunately, during one cycle I did get pregnant and as this happened 4-5 days before my ovulation (confirmed by rising temperature 5 days later), we expected a girl, as Dr Shettles suggests.
Guess what, we had a little boy! So, his method is not foolproof and with hindsight, we are glad not to have followed his advice!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not working for me. Review: I used the method for a boy, followed it to a T and we had another girl, the review sounds very promising, but don't be carried away, I doubt if it is really scientific.
