Rating: Summary: I liked it. Review: Got this book a few weeks ago and often refer back to it. I've been looking for a while for some kind of pictorial reference showing which muscles get worked more and/or less by various exercises, and now I've found one. The drawings and illustrations are very good and appear to be pretty accurate, based on MRI images that I've compared them to. I find the muscle cutaway illustrations particularly useful - they show what's being worked underneath the superficial muscles. It's sprinkled with lots of other interesting items as well, such as an explanation and illustration of the difference between pennate and fusiform muscles - something I haven't seen yet in any of the other books or online sources that I have read. This book gets a central place on my shelf (when it's not in my workout bag). Friends at the gym like it too. There may be better books of this type out there, but this is the best one that I've seen so far.
Rating: Summary: Incredible graphics, outstanding work Review: While browsing my local bookstore for exercise and nutrition books, I stumbled across this masterpiece. The author (and illustrator) is genius at conveying information. If you want to simply and quickly understand what your muscles are doing when weightlifiting, buy, borrow or steal this book immediately. No regrets.
Rating: Summary: Great Anatomic Detail Review: As a physician, I appreciate the anatomic detail and accuracy that is usually lacking in excercise books. A great reference boook for anyone interested in weight training.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable!!!! Review: I am a school teacher who teaches weight training and this book is outstanding for teaching students what muscles are involved in every lift. It gets them more interested in why they do the certain lifts and the benefits for each exercise. Excellent for the curious and the advanced weight lifter. Highly recommended!!!
Rating: Summary: Extremely Impressive Book Review: This book is extremely impressive. It is not only an extremely valuable training aid, but it is also a master work artistically. Delavier is expert in two areas, and has brought them together in this book: First, he knows physiology. This book isn't just a superficial treatment of which muscles are involved in an excercise; there are training tips and superb graphic representations of these muscles in action. Second, Delavier is a master illustrator. The illustration shown on the cover is indicative of the quality of artwork in the entire volume. It's profusely illustrated, and the illustrations are all top-notch...every last one of them. This book is a huge advance for weight-lifters of all types. Get the book before it's gone. My personal opinion is that it's destined to be a classic.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good. Review: This book was quite good...if you need to know how to do a certain exercise and what muscle(s) it works.
Rating: Summary: Simply great... Review: Weight training isn't easy, and not just because of hard work, sweaty shirts and stinky gym shoes. It's hard to know what excercises work which muscle groups, and this wonderfully illustrated book lays it all out. Divided into sections for each major muscle group, its easy to pick and choose new excercises to work your shoulders, back, buns, whatever. The diagrams also include pointers on good form, as well as modifications for each move (like, standing or sitting). For every excercise, the illustration includes "colored" muscles so you really know what is being worked. This book is great for beginners and even the advanced trainers.
Rating: Summary: PHENOMENAL!! Review: I had high hopes for this book based on the customer reviews I read, but I still didn't expect such an extremely high level of detail and quality! It turned out to be everything I was looking for and more. It is very well laid out - a section is devoted to each bodypart (i.e. arms, chest, shoulders), and on the first page of each section is a rundown of all of the exercizes that are profiled. What follows is a beautifully drawn depiction of someone performing the given movement with the targeted muscles highlighted. It also offers tips on proper form and possible variations. I can honestly say I have never been more satisfied with ANY book I have purchased. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone with even the slightest in the way the human body works and it is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone who is at all involved in weightlifting at any level. It will help make your workouts more effective because you will know exactly which muscles you have been targeting in your workouts and those you may have been neglecting. Please do yourself a favor and buy this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: This is an awesome view of all the muscles used in both free weight and machine exercises. I am a visual learner and not only are the muscles shown in detail, but there is a description of the proper way to do the exercise. My basic criticism of most popular fitness magazines is that they do not tell you the names of the muscles worked, this book gives you the names and shows them also. Great reference book! Highly recommended for anyone in the fitness field or looking to understand what you are working when you lift.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Excellent book - wish I would have found it earlier in my quest for fitness.
