Rating: Summary: How to see what you're doing or want to do........... Review: If a picture is worth a thousand words this book is worth dozens of other books. The graphics are amazing both in detail and clarity. It details all the muscle groups (colour coded)then for each routine it highlights those muscles targetted as well as the surrounding tissue. Joints and bones are not neglected either. Sidebars give details as to how different muscles work. The instructions that accompany the exercises are clear and precise. They offer alternatives and warnings where appropriate.Have a guess at how many different sections there are to the pecs that can be worked individually....this book will show you about a dozen and the ways to specifically target them. It is a book that you will constantly refer to. For example, I was doing front raises for shoulder work. These only work the 2/3 of the deltoids. From this excellent book I discovered that by doing one-dumbell front raises I could work all the deltoids as well as the upper pecs. This is a book for beginners as well as experienced weight trainers. It won't give you a training programme but it will compliment your existing programme and allow you to make it more specific, efficient and interesting. I've shown my copy to many friends. Invariably they quickly get their own.
Rating: Summary: Great book for anatomy for fitness or sport Review: Am not using the book for strength training. Use it instead as a reference for stretching, or, if injured, to see which muscles are involved. The strength exercises are the same reliable ones we've been doing for years. Interesting to see what is happening beneath the surface.
Rating: Summary: Nicely done Review: I have been looking for a book like this for a long time, I wish I could rate it higher. It is very well illustrated and should be on any everyones lists for books to buy when weight training. You will see every muscle a specific exersize targets and it also shows the minor muscles that come into play. This book DOES NOT put together a weight training routine but you can easily put one together by learning what muscles do what. The book is divided into seven section; arms, shoulders, chest, back, legs, buttocks, and abdomen. and each of these sections have anywhere from 9 to 21 execizes to perform. My hat goes off to Frederic Delavier for his awesome illustrations and this well put together book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book! Review: The illustrations in this book are just unbelievable. I have several books on weight training, but this book is unique because of the graphics. It clearly shows the muscle groups that are used for each of the exercises covered. The written explanations are good, but the illustrations are what really makes this book a valuable reference. I highly recommend this book to anyone involved in weight training at any level.
Rating: Summary: Great descriptions Review: At first I thought this reference book wouldn't have everything I needed, because I routinely lift weights, with good knowledge of it. But I was wrong. This advisable book will strengthen your exercises involving your muscles, especially with weightlifting, and has helped me promote more growth instead of overtaxation of the muscles. First off, I must say that this book has mostly every effective exercise that will stimulate your muscles, and gives you an idea shown from VERY detailed drawings which muscles are being used. They will also show you an idea of the type of range of motion, including the muscles being worked the most, and the secondary muscles being worked the least. This book is also good for a lot of aerobic type exercises that you can perform with ease. The two aspects of this book that helped me out the most was the descriptions of the muscles being worked and the advice from the author that explained how to do the exercise in good form, and at the same time getting an intense workout. Seeing the ultimate exercises can definitely motivate you to work at your best effort in working out, without overdoing it. This is the number one way, with no doubt, to get more out of your workout.
Rating: Summary: Great variety in exercises! Review: I'm not an exercise fanatic so I wanted a book that would show me a variety of weight training exercises for each muscle group. I really like this book because of it's variety - there are about 15 exercises for each target area. The only minor draw back is that full drawings are missing for a couple of the exercises. My husband likes the book so much that he took mine and now I have to buy another copy.
Rating: Summary: Limited in exercises, but vast in details Review: There's nothing else to be said. -Professional Model & Celebrity Trainer-
Rating: Summary: i love this book Review: If a physiology expert were to sit down with the intention of writing the most helpful, easiest to understand handbook on what exercises do what for what muscles then this is that book. For all the exercise books and magazines that give you sample workout programs etc. etc. I find this book is far more useful in allowing me to identify and target specific muscle groups and work out a balanced program for myself. It's thorough, it's very clear and easy to use and strikes the perfect balance of usefulness for rank beginners and gym junkies. Every person I show this book to, has immediately bought themselves a copy, which says it all.
Rating: Summary: Exactly what I was looking for Review: I've been strength training for a while now. I've taken weight lifting classes, but was never given a book that so precisely explains exactly what muscles are being used. I was looking for a book that would show me which exercises to use to isolate specific muscles and this is the book. It is extremely detailed and shows you in-depth diagrams of the muscles at work. It helps if you know a little about the muscular skeleton to start with, but if you don't this is still a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Must for All Fitness Guru's Review: This is a great book to have around, can help you fine tune your workouts by focusing on specific muscles. This book shows exactly which muscle(s) are involved with a paticular exercise. Every page is very well illustrated with helpful color coding to indicating major muscle groups...
