Summary: Hope for the Fertility Struggle
Review: This book was recommended in my fertility-support group, and it has been a great read. I've tried everything I'm going to from Western medicine, but no solutions have been forthcoming. (And I have a great doc -- not like the "specialist in a top US clinic" I first went to (see negative review #2) who did a few tests and told me I had no problems... oops, she missed the endo and my low hormone levels!) I highly recommend this book not only for people who have tried everything else, but also for those who haven't started trying everything yet, and those who are pursuing medication and/or surgical treatments. Try this early, and save yourself a lot of heartache and expense.

P.S. -- I originally posted in May, 2004 and in July, 2004 conceived for the first time after putting Lewis' plan into action.

Summary: easy to follow self help guide
Review: When Dr. Randine Lewis used millenniums old Chinese techniques to help her conceive, she later visited China to learn first hand more about Chinese medical practices. There she worked with local doctors assisting Chinese women with reproductive problems while studying infertility remedies. In Houston she opened up the Eastern Harmony Clinic for reproductive enhancement. Dr. Lewis claims her combining Chinese techniques with western medical knowledge have resulted in a success rate of 75%, well above the average.

THE INFERTILITY CURE provides an easy to follow self help guide that individuals can use to increase their potential for reproductive success. There is also numerous line drawings that augment the already easy to follow reference book. However, the key to the tome is that Dr. Lewis considers the whole person based on a philosophy that a healthy woman with a positive attitude has a greater chance of triumph in this endeavor or any for that matter than someone who is depressed and lamenting over failures. The book enables the individual to diagnose via detailed a questionnaire listing specific problems. This is followed up by a diet, acupressure techniques, and consumption of herbs to ensure a harmonious healthy body. Though the person should still see their doctor especially to discuss the use of herbs, Dr. Lewis' book is easy to follow and more important easy to use.

Summary: An infertility non-specialists view
Review: While studying reproductive medicine as a medical student years ago, I remember feeling overwhelmed trying to understand the intricate complexities of the numerous factors involved in this process. Dr. Lewis not only delivers to her readers a great practial explanation of the harmonious involvement of these processes as they operate in conception from start to finish, but a very good and practical understanding of the traditional chinese medicine approach to placing them back into balance in order to get pregnant, rather than attacking them systematically, as we tend to do in western medicine.

Although not a substitute for all reproductive pathology, it seems intuitive that a system so prone to imbalance with the rather severe consequence of infertility should be approached first from a method meant to reestablish equilibrium, such as the one proposed by Dr. Lewis. As a novice student of chinese medicine, and a trained physician, I enjoyed reading her book.
