Rating: Summary: Kimberly F. Review: I bought this book about three weeks ago, after nine years of fertility struggles. I am 44 and skeptical, but what did I have to lose? I know this is strange, but when I started reading Dr Lewis's message, I felt like this was my answer, finally. Well, for the first time in my life, my period was late. I had a positive pregnancy test yesterday. I don't know what will happen, but I can tell you that this book changed my life in more ways than one.
Rating: Summary: Thank you, Doctor Lewis! Review: I bought this book to give to an "infertile" coworker after Dr. Lewis helped my daughter conceive after nine years of failed infertility treatments. Thank you for offering women hope to have children naturally, and for giving me my grandbaby.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book - I conceived after reading it! Review: I purchased this book in hope that it would help guide me through my IVF struggles. After a failed IVF attempt, I decided after reading this book and implementing some of the practices such as acupuncture and acupressure I would try again, not to mention all the other wonderful things in this book. In November I did my 2nd IVF attempt and now I am pregnant with twins. The acupuncturist I was seeing is a miracle doctor and if I did not read this book to get the information I needed, I don't think I would have done as well as I did. Excellent read!
Rating: Summary: A must read for couples dealing with infertility issues Review: I think this book is the answer to what a lot of couples faced with infertility are looking for. It provides a comprehensive view point of the available options today from both a western and eastern medicine standpoint. Best of all you do not have to be a Chinese medicine practitioner to understand this book. An excellent simplification of the ancient theories and wisdom of Traditional Chinese medicine. The dietary recommendations and lifestyle changes can be incorporated to maximise health and therefore chances of conception no matter what path you adopt to achieve your goal of a healthy baby. It clearly lays out the different syndromes and patterns that could be underlying the same diagnosis, emphasizing how the acupuncture and herbal treatments need to be individualized. Dr Randine is one of the pioneers in this acupuncture speciality her knowledge and experience reflects through the information provided in this book. A source for acupuncturists and medical doctors too!!As stated in another book I recently read on Acupuncture and Infertility by Dr Lifang Liang, it can greatly improve your chances of success.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational -- Terrific Resource for Infertile Couples Review: I'm also a patient of Dr. Lewis' clinic in Houston, and I've been very impressed with the treatment plan used so far. My daughter was a miracle IVF baby and I'm trying to conceive a 2nd child in the face of much negative prognosis under strictly Western medicine. Dr. Lewis' book (and her accupuncture clinic!) have given me new hope and inspiration. Incidentally, "Reader in CA" (so typical for someone like that to write a negative review under the cloak of anonymity): I attempted another IVF cycle with one of the top fertility clinics in Houston this last November, and in my information packet was a brochure for Dr. Lewis' accupuncture clinic! I was already a patient at the time, but I was reassured that my RE's IVF coordinator said they had seen consistently better results with ART cycles done in conjunction with an accupuncture regimen. Sounds to me like a "Reader in CA" is the one who is woefully misinformed! Most of the "top fertility" doctors in the US are increasingly encouraging the use of accupuncture with ART cycles. In reading through the clear explanations of various imbalances in the female reproductive system included in Dr. Lewis' book, it's readily apparent to me what sorts of things may be interfering with my overall fertility. I thought the book was very well-written and obviously the product of extensive research over many years. I found it easy to read and absorb, but it's hardly fluff or "pseudo-science." I especially enjoyed the section on dietary and lifestyle changes that can be adopted. Incidentally, the last third of the book is devoted to complementary treatments for infertility conditions diagnosed by Western medicine (these treatments aren't necessarily meant to *replace* Western treatments, but rather to be used in conjunction with, a complement to Western science). In sum, I highly recommend this book for all fertility patients!
Rating: Summary: Useful information Review: If you've been trying to get pregnant with no success, you need to explore as many avenues as possible to help you reach your goal. It's worth exploring alternative options when standard mainstream medical options are too complex, too expensive or too stessful. This book will help you to find out more about Chinese medicine;
and you may want to incorporate some of the suggestions in your quest for a baby. Remember that all good doctors, no matter what their viewpoint , training or philosophy, should be on your side - and if you find useful information from sources he is not familiar with, he should be broad-minded enough to allow you to explore these.
Rating: Summary: I have hope... Review: Like many of the other reviewers, I too, have been struggling with infertility for almost two years. When western medicine told me I only had two options, one of which was an egg donor...I found hope and peace within Dr. Lewis' book. I have since been fortunate to consult with Dr. Lewis, and have incorporated her dietary changes into my daily life and have found the changes pretty easy. I too was skeptical, but decided what I was doing wasn't working, so why not be open minded enough to try something different...I thank God I did!
No, I am not pregnant...I gave that desire up for a while...I am however, not taking allergy shots (I was taking a shot once a week and have not had a shot in almost two months!), I am also feeling MUCH better. My PMS is BARELY there...great news for my husband! He especially has noticed a difference! I get accupuncture once a week, and I am no longer getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I was waking up 2-3 times per night. My energy level has returned, I sure have missed it! I am actually getting out of bed, ready to face the day instead of draggig my rear end around behind me. I am finding myself more relaxed, and so are the people around me. I can not tell you how many people tell me I look really happy...I haven't heard that in quite sometime.
If your heart truly desires to be a Mom and all attempts have failed, I encourage you to at least open your mind, open your heart and purchase this book.
I hope my journey down this path someday finds me craddling the child I have prayed for and longed for. If it doesn't, then if nothing more...my body is getting back into balance and I have experienced the gift of learning the possibilities that lie within.
Good luck in your quest to be a Mom...this book will help!
Rating: Summary: Empowering! Review: My husband and I, both 36, have been trying to conceive for over a year and feel that every month we fail just makes it more difficult. I've not only read the "Infertility Cure" from cover to cover but have underlined passages and dog-earred pages. What I've discovered about Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it puts the power back in your hands. Rather than simply waiting for the next doctor's appointment or submitting to tests, you can actually take certain measures to improve your fertility. After reading the book, I have taken up yoga, given up coffee, and cut back on milk/cheeses. I perform my accupressure regime religiously. I started charting my basal temperature. Yes, this book as made a real impact in my search for fertility.
Because I could not find an accupucturalist experienced in fertility in my area, I have also spent many countless hours searching the internet for herbal remedies, and this, in my mind, is the only drawback to this book. I've accumulated a long, long list of Web sites as the ones cited in the text only offer a very small fragment of the remedies listed. I would like to consult with Dr. Lewis or her team to confirm my diagnois and get the correct herbs; however, many of the services on her Web site have either been pulled or have long wait lists. I know that they have more potential patients than they could ever serve, but it would be nice to get confirmation and assistance even more than the book already provides.
Rating: Summary: This treatment WORKED for me ... Review: Of course western medicine has done wonderful things but are we so arrogant that we would assume that something practiced for thousands of years has no value? Anyone who thinks that western medicine alone is the ONLY real treatment option for infertility has obviously never experienced or been exposed to the sheer miracle this treatment offers. "A Reader" from CA (of course this person would go nameless) and other skeptics should realize that those struggling with infertility have nothing to lose and that these treatments are the perfect accompaniment to a "western" protocol. As a PCOS/Endometriosis patient with no success via the standard ob/gyn/RE protocol, I began to ovulate on my own (documented by temp charts, ovulation kits and physician examinations). In addition, I stopped having migraines and allergies and felt so much better overall, I can hardly describe how much it has helped me. Unfortunately due to a severe male factor problem, we were not able to conceive and have since moved on. I personally know of dozens of people who have had success using this treatment after years and years of failure including multiple miscarriages, etc. What is "A Reader" so afraid of? Dr. Lewis is a very committed professional who I have seen work tirelessly with her patients and on this book so that she can help others. Her only motivation is to help people and I felt like this review was an attack by somebody who doesn't know what they're talking about. Predatory? If something works then it works - I'd rather know of success stories than of studies. But for those who need such things, there was a study published in the medical journal "Fertility & Sterility" regarding the success of acupucture in conjunction with IVF. Link here: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/HealthyWoman/GMA020416Accupuncture.html . Could it be that since each IVF treatment costs between $10K - $15K per cycle, some might be afraid that we'll stop spending our life savings, taking on second mortgages and going deep into debt for medical treatment that is rarely covered by insurance and that is immediately "prescribed" by so many doctors (is this not truly "predatory"?). Worse, some might simply feel that they have NO HOPE because they aren't rich enough to pursue this treatment (which often times isn't even necessary). Acupuncture/herbal therapy does not incur anywhere near those kinds of costs! Give it a chance, even if you are skeptical (which I was, along with being afraid of needles, and it was just fine). In the hands of a competent professional, you will not be disappointed. One last thing - many Reproductive Endocinologists have figured out that this treatment will greatly help their own success rates and I would not see one who isn't supportive of this treatment in conjunction with their protocol. Thank you, Dr. Lewis for the wonderful gift of this book and for everything you've done to help those struggling with infertility.
Rating: Summary: Damaging Pseudoscience Review: This book is a perfect example of the runaway predatory marketing of anything "Eastern" or "Alternative" as being better than Western medical care. People who are interested in this as a possible solution should first subject it to the long-established scientific method and establish its efficacy by way of studies carried out through reputable medical research (universities, NIH, etc.). I know people with fertility problems are desperate for a solution, and that's what makes this type of predatory book all the more heinous. Sorry, but there's no legitimate proof that this works. Acupressure and Chinese herbs won't help you, but modern Western Medical technology might. Let's see, was it "Ancient Eastern" or "Modern Western" technology that sent men to the moon, propelled the computer revolution to astounding heights, and has cured millions of cancer cases? (Hint: It wasn't by using acupressure and Chinese herbs). For those still tempted by this book and others like it, I suggest you read "Demon-Haunted World" by Carl Sagan. In it he establishes the basic rules anyone (even non-scientists) can use to establish whether they're being duped. He calls it the "baloney detection kit". As for this other reviewer, Harriet Klausner (the "#1 Amazon Reviewer"), please click on her link and look at her other reviews. She reviews dozens of books per week, and most usually get four or five stars. (She actually reviewed 68 books on December 31 '03 alone!). How could she actually read all those books? (Answer - She Can't!!). My suggestion - Go see a real fertility doctor, at a top clinic in the U.S.! There are ways to research these on the web. It's not easy but it won't waste your time and money like this book!
