Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not very good Review: This book wasn't particularly helpful. It didn't have much real, useful information, and it wasn't even that funny. It was readable, and a quick read (so you're not wasting TOO much time if you DO read it), but very light on real content.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A funny book to take the tension out of waiting for the baby Review: I couldn't believe some of the reviews of this book, trashing it because it doesn't contain "relevant facts" or "information" on pregnancy. Anybody who believes that a book with a title lifted off a line from a television comedy show is going to give you useful medical information deserves to be disappointed. For the rest of us, this is a humorous, good-natured book that can help us laugh about what is traditionally a very stressful (but joyful as well) time in a couple's lives.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book is a blast, but not for the politically correct!!! Review: One of the nurses in my OB's practice recommended this book to my husband and I. She warned me not to read it in a public place, unless I wouldn't mind the embarrassment of laughing out loud spontaneously in front of total strangers. My husband read it on the train ride home from work. He said the nurse was right...this book was hilarious and kept him laughing, sometimes out loud, for the full ride home. He actually read the book cover to cover in about an hour, which the author notes is about all the time men will dedicate to reading about pregnancy. Sad but true! Even though this was a guy's guide, since I could fill a section at a library with the books I have read on pregnancy in preparation for my first, I figured I might as well read just one more. So I did...and I loved it. Now, I must admit some of the cartoons are a bit over the edge and I found myself asking my husband repeatedly "is this how you think?" (to which he answered on most occasions, "yes"). But as long as you have a sense of humor, you'll really enjoy this unusual treatment of the subject of pregnancy. I'd highly recommend it.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Funny, But Not Very Informative Review: Ian Davis writes of the pregnancy experience with a respectable amount of wit, but this book falls short on quality information that will actually help expecting fathers. In fact, to put it bluntly, I was highly unsatisfied with this "book."If you're looking for nothing more than a light read that will take no more than an hour and a 1/2 to finish, this is your book. If you're looking for substance, try Armin Brott and Jennifer Ash's "The Expectant Father." You'll get more milage out of your money.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Just the facts, mam. Review: Perfect. Bare bones, no fluff, very humorous guide to avoiding getting in trouble and understanding what to expect in each trimester, i.e., flatulence, holding the hair back, annoying questions, joy, joy, joy....
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not quite what I was expecting Review: When I read the other reviews for this book I thought that this was the perfect book for me, a soon to be, first-time father. I even paid for express shipping because I was so excited. When it arrived, I tore open the package and was crestfallen just by looking at the book. It weighs in somewhere around ten pages (exaggeration) and is much more a humor book than a real life, honest to god, book for guys who want to know about what's going on in their wife's body and mind. Don't get me wrong, the author has a good sense of humor and the book would be good for one guy to buy another as a gift, but I found it dissapointing at best and unreadable at worst. In one sentence: It was not what I was expecting.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The funniest before-birth book for dads Review: When you discover your wife is pregnant, I would recommend two books for dads who are tired of reading big, fat books which are too serious for their own good. My Boys Can Swim! by Ian Davis is short and sweet and full of laughs, pre-birth. Post-birth, read Walter Roark's Keeping the Baby Alive till Your Wife Gets Home. Trust me, you will laugh till the tears come! Both offer a (much-needed) male perspective with an honest, humorous touch--a great break from all the ultra-serious stuff.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Laugh out Loud Funny! Review: Laugh out loud funny, Ian Davis'My Boys Can Swim is a MUST READ for all first time fathers (or those who want a telling glimpse into their world)! Inspired by real-life experiences, the book blends cutting truth and sage guidance with bitting comedy. A thought-provoking, comedic gem!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Informative at the expense of funny. Review: I liked this book, but found that there was too much emphasis on real info, and not enough jokes. I'm already overloaded with info from the "What to expect" books my wife forced me to read. I preferred "Breathe - A guy's guide to pregnancy" by National Lampoon-er Mason Brown. Very funny, with little or no actual information whatsoever.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: My Wife Laughed So Hard She Nearly Gave Birth Review: Three months into my wife's first pregnancy, this book comes in the mail. After daily bouts with morning sickness and multiple trips to the OB (or OB/GOD as referred to my the author), this was just what the doctor ordered! The illustrations are as over the top as some of the stories...we read it in one sitting and it was probably the most fun we've had since the news became official. If our friend Sara Johns is reading this, THANK YOU for this great gift!! We'll be doing the same for our newly pregnant friends. Everyone needs a little comic relief during this crazy time of life.
