Review: I read this book when I was pregnant...and promptly gave it to every one of my girlfriends, who promptly gave it to their husbands...they ALL LOVED IT!! You will laugh out load, guaranteed! This is a Humor book, with a capital "h." And it's for couples, not just "the men." It is not a medical book, not a substitute for your doctor's advice (can't believe, in a review for a humor book, that I have to include that disclaimer, but alas...), and not a definitive guide to all things baby. But if you're a soon-to-be dad (and mom), you'll recognize the simple truism that in all good humor lies a grain (sometimes a whole shaker!) of truth. When pregnancy blues get you down, this will pick you up. Buy this book--you won't regret it!Disclaimer #2: If you were born without a funny bone and healthy sense of irony, don't bother. Hopefully there's a comedian or two contributing to your family gene pool!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Book Review - Rottentomatoes.com Review: Pregnancy books generally cater to women -- but what about the father-to-be? Author Ian Davis remembers telling his wife one day during her pregnancy that he'd rather get root canal surgery than read one more excruciating page of what to Expect When You're Expecting. For him, like most men, the only interesting part of pregnancy is what happens before the egg is fertilized. With that in mind, he wrote My Boys Can Swim, a wry, witty, endlessly entertaining book that address the concerns of every dad-to-be. Inside are unique guy insights you'll never find in those other pregnancy books, such as: -- You'll lose count of the number of strangers that will see your wife naked. Okay, it's medical and all. Still, you'll swear there were guys coming in and out of the room just to catch a peek. -- Lamaze is just some fancy French word that doesn't mean much of anything. If the class was called "Coping with the Excruciating Pains of Childbirth, " who would go? -- If you're worried about your wife gaining too much weight during pregnancy, don't sweat it. Fat and happy is always better than thin and cranky. -- And many more!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Deep Breath for the Expectant Father Review: I got this book from my wife shortly after we discovered we were expecting our own little bundle of joy. First, this book isn't going to enlighten anyone about the ups, downs, and pitfalls of pregnancy. What it does do is take a light hearted look at the subject. There were a few bits that were informative, but for the most part, it was just a breath of fresh air. As the author put it, if you want a lot of details about pregnancy, consult your wife/partner's ever growing library on the subject. This book is just fun. After reading about how fragile women supposedly become during pregnancy (and I acknowledge that it is an emotional period fueled by harmonal mood swings--and thank God it doesn't happen to me), this is a nice change, written from a guy's point of view. Davis hits about everything, just not thoroughly. So far, I can vouch for his description of the exhiliration one gets when finding out he is going to be a father. As George Costanza said in that one episode of Seinfeld "My Boys Can Swim!" This is a great gift for an expectant father, especially for one that will be a father for the first time.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Hilarious and Refreshingly Honest! Review: I was so tired of reading pregnancy books about how wonderful pregnancy is. Yes, we all know that in the end it's worth it. But during those nine months of waiting, things happen to your body and mind that you (and no doubt your spouse) never could have imagined. The way that Ian Davis describes his wife's pregnancy and the experience that they shared, reminds us all that we need a sense of humor. My husband and I were laughing so hard as I read him some highlights that I had to put the book down at some points just to breathe! A great gift for any expecting couple or any couple just thinking about it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Thoroughly Entertaining Review: I have a stack of books on my desk on the subject of pregnancy - all left unread except this one. Davis' way of poking fun at pregnancy is clever, witty, and at times, just plain hilarious. As the author suggests, you can read this book in about four trips to the john (which I did!), which is perfect for men who want to know something about the subject but not get overwhelmed with detail. What I liked most were the real-life stories about real people - nothing contrived here...just raw, honest observations and stories about the experiences of everyday couples going through their first pregnancy. I'd give it a double thumbs up.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An ideal companion to the Girlfriend's Guide Review: If you're looking for something that your husband will actually read about pregnancy, this is it. My husband got hooked when the author admitted in the introduction that this is not a medical book since he "cheated like hell in high school biology and still got a D." This sort of irreverance carries through the entire book - it's just a plain fun read. I actually wished it were longer (a rare desire for a pregnancy book), but the author is probably right that there's just so much any guy is really going to read about pregnancy.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Falls Short of Intelligence or Humor Review: Somewhere in the introduction of this "book"/pamphlet, the author mentions that he wanted to write a humorous and informative bit that, to paraphrase, could be read in the [the restroom]. He succeeded in the latter with 90 or so pages of text ... but unfortunately, fails to provide any intelligent information though does throw in a few amusing anecdotes and cartoons. Just because a man isn't familiar with pregnancies doesn't mean he's an idiot, although the author seems to be writing for that audience. Less fluff and more facts, written intelligently and humorously is what this book purports to be. Yet the authors' only credentials seem to be that his wife had a baby and she cut Hilary Clintons hair a few times. Let her write a book...I'm sure it'd be more interesting than this. Don't waste your time on this book.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Amusing, but falls flat Review: This annecdotal review of pregnancy from Dad's point of view is at times humorous, but often falls short of delivering either humor or information. If this book intended to be pure humor, it lacks the punch to really be funny. If this book intended to be informational to the father-to-be, it stops with one line where a page was due. In short, the book tries to do too many things in too short a space - and fails at all of them. It's an amusing read, but don't plan on the "laugh out loud" experience other reviewers have claimed. Set your expectations low, and you won't be disappointed.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A must read for Dad and Mom Review: This book is the best thing I have read relating to prenancy. I am 8 months pregnant w/ #2 and after page 7 thought I was going to wet my pants. I have never read something so true to how woman are when pregnant. My mother bought this for my husband for Father's Day after hearing the author on the radio. My husband is a first time dad and has no idea what is going to happen come d-day. This book explains it to a T in guy terms. This is a must read just for the humor alone. It really picks you up in these last weeks before baby when reality sets in and you realize oh my gosh we are going to have a baby!!!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Very entertaining Review: This is a very entertaining book...and I recommend it for fathers-to-be who are nervous about being a dad. It is a humorous look at pregnancy and can help ease nerves.
