Rating: Summary: Your Pregnancy Week by Week Review: I thought this book was great. It was very informative and broken down in such a way that you didn't have to read it all the way through in one sitting. I liked how it was broken up in one week incriments. It gave a lot of different scenarios of things that could happen each week so you could anticipate things before they happened. I also liked how it gave an estimated amount of weight that you should have gained at each week (not that my weight actually corresponded, but it was nice to see how far I was off). I liked this book so much, I bought Baby's First Year Week by Week after my daughter's birth and Your Pregnancy Questions and Answers for my second pregnancy (both from the same author and series). I would definitely recommend this book to people, in fact I have loaned it out to several of my friends and they all went out and bought Baby's First Year Week by Week too.
Rating: Summary: Not my favorite pregnancy Book!!! Review: This book is just not one of my favoites. It seems very insinsitive at times and not very helpful in the way it's laid out. Everyone's pregnancy is different. you wouldn't know it by reading this book.. The pictures are great because they show week by week. Some people might find this book very helpful. There are some parts that were helpful to me, but I really could have done withought it.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book. Review: When I first found out that I was pregnant I bought a mini-library worth of pregnancy books since this was my first pregnancy. And after reading them all, I have to say this book was by far my favorite. I made myself not read ahead and took the time once a week to see how my baby was developing at that time. It also gave you a weekly insight into what changes you should be noticing in yourself. I found that it did not lecture like some of the books and it really gave me a sense of what is going on right now. Often while I was reading I would tell my husband stuff like "our baby my develop the hiccups this week." I really liked the format when combined with an additional book like "The Mother of All Pregnancy Books" - due to the fact that information is presented in a weekly format if you experience something ahead of schedule you may not read about it for a couple weeks. So getting a generalized book too is a good idea.
Rating: Summary: love the growth pics Review: We bought this book so we could get an idea of where our baby was in the growth process. Initially we found it very helpful, and it provided some nutrition and health information. But it also dwells on alarming conditions and rare pregnancy problems - often two or more pages at a time. While it is a good idea to mention some symptoms if you are concerned, if I was diagnosed with any rare problems I would be consulting my Doctor, not a book. My husband felt like it was a bit much as we really just wanted to see what the baby looked like and what stage of development she was at - without concerning ourselves about potential pregnancy complications. I confess that we have not looked at the book in a few weeks - I can get similar growth and development information from the website babycenter.com - emailed to me every week for free! Stil, this book does provide actual-size illustrations that are great in those first few months when growth and changes are rapid.
Rating: Summary: A Pregnancy Must-Have Review: I loved this book! I read it every week during my pregnancy and enjoyed learning how my growing baby was developing and some other helpful tips. It can be used as a topic reference, but I found the "What To Expect When You are Expecting" much better for that need. The "Week by Week" book is great for a short interesting weekly update and I read it cover to cover by the end of my pregnancy. I think it is a great gift and must have for a mom-to-be!
Rating: Summary: I read it with my 1st child! Review: This is my second pregnancy, and my 4-year old son had tons of questions about why it will take so long for the baby to grow. A friend recommended this book, and my son & I read it every week together. It keeps him involved in what's going on and helps to explain why the baby needs to stay in "Mommy's tummy" so long. I don't explain everything to him, but he gets the gist of it. My husband and I also read this book together weekly. I highly recommend this book as a realistic approach to childbirth. Labor is painful, so what's wrong with pointing that out? It's better to be prepared than to go into the delivery room with unrealistic expectations. If you can't find something where you think it should be, use the index. This book isn't "scary"...it's informative. I had several things go wrong with my first pregnancy, and I wish I had taken the time to read about the possibilities beforehand. I'm much better informed this time, and this book has played a major part in that preparation. But mainly, I just love knowing what's going on with my baby every week. It helps me feel connected to him/her until I can start feeling movement.
Rating: Summary: 1st time mom Review: This book was INCREDIBLE. I "stumbled" onto it in a book store and it soon became my "bible". My husband and I referred to it at least once a week! It is far better than the "What to Expect When You are Expecting" when it comes to the gradual development you will experience. (The "Expecting" series I found to be more beneficial when searching for a specific topic of concern.) It is easy reading too! I was even able to encourage my husband to read along with me every night. I highly recommend this book. "Your Babies First Year" by Glade is also a must buy. This is the first time I've taken the time to write a review, only because I know this book will be a useful and enjoyable tool for any parent or parent to be.
Rating: Summary: Helpful early on, disappointing in late pregnancy Review: I found this book to be more informative and useful in the first half of my pregnancy, as each early chapter seemed to provide a great deal of interesting information about typical changes and normal symptoms, etc. Now that I'm in the last trimester (and have been faithfully reading each weekly chapter), I'm somewhat disappointed with the book. It seems that most of the illustrations of the baby from this point on show some type of problem (knot in cord, placental abruption, etc.) and most of each chapter is now dedicated to a potentially dangerous or fairly rare medical scenario (e.g. cancer during pregnancy) that might arise but certainly won't happen to every woman, and definitely not in a particular "week." Perhaps a format in which more detailed information about baby's development (which I'm most interested in) was included in each chapter and possible medical complications were included in an appendix might have been more helpful.
Rating: Summary: I found this book to be condescending and of limited use Review: The week by week concept is nice, however it does not lend itself to containing information you can refer to when you have questions. As another reviewer mentioned, additional information is haphazardly stuffed into the second part of the chapters for each week. What I found condescending were these little blurbs that the doctor apparently pulled from his/her office experience. He/she would list questions and answer them as though he/she were saving these women from themselves. The little picture of the doctor situated in these boxes almost has a look of smugness to it. I just found these items to be absolutely irritating.
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: I have found this book to be extremely useful. I love that it is set-up on a week by week basis. Each week I can read about the progress of my baby, learn what to expect, and find topics that I need to discuss further with my doctor (and my husband, who loves this book, too.) Those people who found it scary... get real. I would much rather be prepared for all the possibilities, than to live in a fantasy world. Pregnancy is beautiful, but there are risks and pain involved. If you are afraid to read about those risks and pain, good luck with labor.
